Lucifer - The Anointed - God’s Highest ranked AngelGod created Lucifer as the highest angel in God’s angelic kingdom. Lucifer was the anointed cherub (Ezekiel 28:14; Isaiah 14:12,13). Lucifer’s Reign as the anointed cherub that covereth was God’s most high priest in the mountain of God ( Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:13-17). Lucifer was the highest ranking angel that God created until he sinned and became Satan. Lucifer and the other angles were created some time before the foundation of the world (Job 38:1-7) Here are the titles and ranks of other Angels found in scripture:Seraphim - Isa. 6:1-7, Psa.24:1, 72:19; Exod. 3:6; Job 4:18, 15:15; I Kings 19:13Cherubim - Ezek. 1:5-18, 10:12, Gen. 3:24Archangels - Jude 9 (Michael, Gabriel)Angels - over 300 times in bible Sons of God - Gen 6:1,2; Job 38:7; Dan. 3:25-28Sons of the Mighty - Ps. 29:1, 89:6,7, 103:20; Isa. 13:3; Joel 3:11 Ps. 103:20; Ps.104:4; Dan. 9:21; Heb. 1:7.Watchers/Keepers - Dan. 4:13-17; Isa. 62:6 Holy Ones - Zech. 14:5; Matt. 25:31; Isa 6:1-3; Dan. 8:13Princes - Dan. 10:13,20,21; 12:1; John 12:31, 14:30, 16:11, Eph. 2:2Thrones - Col. 1:16,Rev. 4:2-11Dominions - Col. 1:16 Powers - Col. 1:16Principalities - Col. 1:16; Eph. 1:21; Col. 2:10; Eph. 6:12 The number of Angels created is not exactly known however, the Bible gives us a few hints in Dan. 7:10 and Rev. 5:11. What is the strength of an Angel? Here is one example in 2 Kings 19:20,21,35. What should our relationship be to Angels? Please read Col 2:18; Col 2:8-10; Eph 6:10-12; Eph 1:17-21; I Tim 2:5 Lucifer rebells and becomes Satan - Begins The Trail of the SerpentGod did not create Satan. God created Lucifer, the highest angel in God’s angelic kingdom. Lucifer was the anointed cherub (Ezekiel 28:14; Isaiah 14:12,13). Lucifer then of his own free will wanted to be God and receive worship as God. Through his pride and vanity, he fell and became Satan. This event caused a catastropic event to the Original earth to throw it into a state of chaos.Tradition paints Satan with horns and a pitch fork but this is not accurate. God created Lucifer with extreme beauty and Lucifer did not lose that beauty when he fell... hence his ability to be percieved as an angel of light... the deciever of mankind. Even though he fell, his power is still great as the Archangel Michael suggests in Jude 1:9. With Satan’s part in the Garden of Eden, it began the trail of the serpent in the affairs of mankind. Satan’s goal is to be God. Consequently his activities are to keep people from knowing Christ as their personal savior or if that battle was lost, to keep people from knowing Christ better. Satan’s destruction is foretold by God in the Garden of Eden when he promised the seed of the woman would crush the serpents head (Genesis 3:14-15). This then set forth an attack by Satan on the seed of the woman.Other titles for fallen Lucifer, now Satan: Satan, meaning - the Adversary, Devil - the slanderer, Apollyon - the destroyer, Beelzebub - the prince of demons, Belial - the low, abject one, The Wicked One, The God of This World, The Prince of Darkness, The Dragon, The Tormentor, The Accuser, The Deceiver, The Liar, the Murderer, He that hath the power of death, Abaddon, The Enemy, The Prince of this World, The Tempter.There are a number of Fallen Angels that rebelled with him: Rev. 12:4,9. These angels along with Satan will be imprisoned in the lake of fire for eternal torment.

Lucifer is not a ugly little beast in a red suit with a pitchfork and tailas you can see he is the highest ranking most beautiful Angel God ever created.Every christian must realize this because he will be coming to earth soon and will be claiming to be Jesus Christ Returned. He will be performing miracles and holding Revivals like the World has never seen. He is a supernatural Being.How do we know he is a fake Gods word has fore told us He will come first.At the sixth trump. The true Christ will not arrive till the 7th trump. Now if you think you don't have to worry cause you are going to be raptured away You are wrong There is no rapture written in Gods word.Every one will have to choose who you are going to follow will it be the first Anti christ (Satan) or The True Christ

I know this  topic is old, but it was an interesting read and it brought up a question to me.

This ranking goes Seraphim, Cherubim, Archangel, etc.....

If Lucifer was a Cherubim, how could he have been higher in rank than the Seraphim ?

Or was the author of this topic merely using "cherub" in my first underlining as a euphemism/paraphrase ?

Thanks in advance. :)

Michael the archangel is the highest angel and always was--I believe the one called devil was 2nd to Michael and was jealous.

In the war of heaven--Michael leads Gods armies against satan and his angels, Michael is victorious and casts them to the vicinity of the earth--( 1914)
Archangel means--leader of the angels.

Actually, although I agree that 'archangel' is the highest ranked, and the Bible clearly states that Michael is the archangel, the Bible says nothing with regards Gabriel being an archangel. This is quite ligical as there can only be one over-all leader.

(how can you get higher than 'arch',

757 ἄρχω archo ar’-kho
a primary word; TDNT-1:478,81; {See TDNT 102} v
AV-rule over 1, reign over 1; 2
1) to be chief, to lead, to rule
)

but nor does it necessarily mean that Michael is an angel. The US president is chief of the armed forces of his country, yet that does not make him a soldier. So also, Michael is the chief of the angelic host, yet does not mean Michael is an angel. Nor can we state without conjecture and guesswork that Lucifer was at any time an "archangel". The cherub which 'covers', yes, but archangel, no. There were two angels that were covering cherubs. They were depicted in the earthly sanctuary as the two angels leaning over the ark of the covenant, 'covering' the mercy seat. Originally tradition has it these two were Lucifer and Gabriel...but when Lucifer rebelled he lost his place and was replaced by another. We are not informed as to the identity or name of the replacement. What is clear is that Michael is of higher ranking than Lucifer.

Note the following.

Daniel 10:5  and I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a certain one clothed in linen, and his loins girt with pure gold of Uphaz,
6  and his body as a beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet as the aspect of bright brass, and the voice of his words as the voice of a multitude.

Now compare with this...

Revelation 1:13  and in the midst of the seven lamp-stands, one like to the Son of Man, clothed to the foot, and girt round at the breast with a golden girdle,
14  and his head and hairs white, as if white wool — as snow, and his eyes as a flame of fire;
15  and his feet like to fine brass, as in a furnace having been fired, and his voice as a sound of many waters,

Now we know who the second is, that is none other than Jesus. The first is un-named, unitl verse 13 of Daniel 10....

13  ‘And the head of the kingdom of Persia is standing over-against me twenty and one days, and lo, Michael, first of the chief heads, hath come in to help me, and I have remained there near the kings of Persia;

"Prince of princes" (Dan. 8:25) can be seen to be the same as the "prince of the host" of verse 11. And in commenting on these two expressions, the Cambridge Bible says, "i.e. God." But this "Prince of princes," or "prince of the host," is also referred to as Michael. Daniel 10:21 tells of "Michael your prince," and Daniel 12:1 of Michael, "the great prince." But this Prince is also the Messiah, for we read of "Messiah the Prince" in Daniel 9:25.

Many in Jewish literature see Michael in OT settings in precislely the same way as Christians see Jesus in the OT.

He prevented Isaac's being sacrificed (Yalkut Reubeni, section Wayera); wrestled with Jacob (Targum, Gen. 32:25); was Advocate when Israel deserved death at the Red Sea (Exodus Rabbah, 18:5); led Israel during the forty years in the wilderness (Abravanel to Ex. 23:20); gave Moses the tables of stone (Apoc. Moses, 1); instructed Moses at Sinai (Bk. Jubilees, i. 27, ii. 1); destroyed the army of Sennacherib (Midr. Exod. 18: 5); was one of the angels who visited Abraham(Yoma, 37; Shebu'oth, 351 footnote); was Israel's guardian angel (Yoma. 77); and ministers in the heavenly sanctuary (Menahoth, 110).

Therefore there is no contradiction in seeing Michael, (not an angel) as being the Messiah in the OT, and Jesus in the New.

BTW, consider this...1 Thess. 4:16  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Does a mere angel have the power or authority to raise the dead?

Note the following.

Daniel 10:5  and I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a certain one clothed in linen, and his loins girt with pure gold of Uphaz,
6  and his body as a beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet as the aspect of bright brass, and the voice of his words as the voice of a multitude.

Now compare with this...

Revelation 1:13  and in the midst of the seven lamp-stands, one like to the Son of Man, clothed to the foot, and girt round at the breast with a golden girdle,
14  and his head and hairs white, as if white wool — as snow, and his eyes as a flame of fire;
15  and his feet like to fine brass, as in a furnace having been fired, and his voice as a sound of many waters,

Now we know who the second is, that is none other than Jesus. The first is un-named, unitl verse 13 of Daniel 10....

13  ‘And the head of the kingdom of Persia is standing over-against me twenty and one days, and lo, Michael, first of the chief heads, hath come in to help me, and I have remained there near the kings of Persia;

Acts 2:22--- when Gods [power goes through one--anything can be achieved--like with Moses. and Jesus.

Yes Michael came to earth and was called Jesus as a mortal.

kjw47, don't think for one moment I believe as you. Jesus is verily the divine Son of the Most High God...immortal...uncreated...Prince and rightful naturally begotten heir to the throne of the universe. All I say and believe is that Jesus is the NT name for the Son of God, Michael was the OT name for Him. Thus Michael, though archangel, was not an angel. Simply Head of the angels. Which is entirely consistent with the accepted Christian name for Jesus, Lord of Hosts.

.....But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay

Jeremiah 20:9

At the end of Jesus 1000 year reign--1 Corinthians 15:24-28---Jesus hands back the kingdom to his God and Father and becomes a subject---like all created beings are subject.
