I'd like to have a calm, rational conversation about End Times...anyone?

So...this might be asking too much. I have noticed that for some reason, nothing seems to send people off the deep end like discussing the end times. People just get mad. If I disagree with their eschatology, then I must be the devil!

So...here's where I am. I grew up in a Christian house where we didn't really talk about end times much, but when we did, I suppose it was with a Pre-trib flavour, because that's what my Grandparents where. Once I grew up myself and became serious about my faith, I decided it was a doctrine that shouldn't be ignored, so I looked into it, assuming that I would follow in my Grandparents footsteps...wonderful, godly people that they were! However, I just couldn't read Pretribulationalism into scripture. So,...

    Porn free!

Eph 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Eph 5:3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints.

These powerful verses should dispel the notion that porn watching is OK with God! It’s so disheartening to see so many pastors, young and old men, addicted to one of the must selfish, self-indulgent, and lustful addictions known to man.

And how can you be an imitator of God, and addicted to porn at the same time?

Jesus said this to you porn watchers:

Mat 6:22 "The lamp of the body...

    Sin unto Death?

I have experienced great freedom in Christ. If you have ever read any of my other post, you are aware that I am an highly anxious, reclusive person. God has drawn me even out of the anxiety and fear I thought I would never be free from. I have been going out without panic attacks. In crowds.

But there remains something I am a slave to...cigarettes. I have prayed. I have struggled. I have pleaded with God. I have ignored the smoking and the repetitive motions of this bondage, claiming the blood of Jesus covers the blatant disobedience also. God convicts. I ignore. I have smoked since I was sixteen years old. God removed the smoking for nine days once and I am certain it was Him because it was during one of the most difficult...

    Talking in Tongues:

I have taken the following verses out of the NT Bible that mention speaking in tongues. I will make comments after each group. My comments are my opinions about what they mean. You have the right to disagree but what I am posting is what I believe.

    Mark 16:17-18
    17 "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
18 "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
    (NKJ)

My comments >> Some Churches teach that in verse 17 the tongues mentioned are a special language that only God knows. I don't believe that. I believe, that the tongues spoken about, is a person,...

    A very simple question.

Hello I have been involved in a debate in the testimony forum. http://www.christianityboard.com/forum/47-testimonial-forum/

Its getting out of hand and like most disccussions it has grown all out of proportion.

This is the heart of the discussion,

Are tounges for all its really simple yes or no question if you know the scriptures in reguard to tounges.

We Have one side of the debate saying God Does Not Want All Speaking In Tounges. And uses this verse as proof.

Proof being that clearly all dont have these gifts

1Cor 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

The other side quotes this verse

    1Cor 14:5 I would that ye...

Explanation of the warning in Heb.6:1-8

    I.) Some background

The book of Hebrews is definitely addressed to Christians. (Heb.3:1) " Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling..." (Heb. 6:4) ...and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost." (Heb. 10:19) "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter..."

Not only is the book of Hebrews addressed to Christians, these Christians are Jewish Christians. Thus the title of the book, Hebrews. The writer of the book of Hebrews, who I firmly believe is Paul, and therefore from here on out will refer to the writer as Paul, assumes that those he is writing to have a working and experiential knowledge of the Mosaic Law and the sacrificial system which was centered on the Temple in Jerusalem. And when the letter of...

Charles Spurgeon's Sanity Litmus Test (are you insane?)

"It is the bounden duty of every Christian to pray against Antichrist, and as to what Antichrist is NO SANE MAN ought to raise the question. If it be not the Popery in the Church of Rome, there is nothing in the world that can be called by that name (Antichrist). If there were to be issued a hue and cry for Antichrist, we should certainly take up this Church on suspicion, and it would certainly not be let loose again, FOR IT SO EXACTLY ANSWERS THE DESCRIPTION."
    --- Charles Spurgeon

According to the great Charles Spurgeon, anyone who subscribes to "Jesuit Futurism" aka "Left Behind Theology" which essentially teaches that Antichrist is a...

Logical and Dialectical Reasoning in Scripture

It is important to understand that as a Westerner, your thought processes are vastly different from those who have been raised to reason dialectically, as the Jewish writers were:

"...Dialectical reasoning is actually opposed to formal logic in many ways.

    Western Logic Versus Eastern Dialecticism
Aristotle placed at the foundations of logical thought the following three propositions.
    1. Identity: A = A. Whatever is, is. A is itself and not some other thing.
    2. Noncontradiction: A and not A can't both be the case. Nothing can both be and not be. A proposition and its opposite can't both be true.
    3. Excluded middle: Everything must either be or not be. A or not A can be true but not something in between.

    Modern...
