I want to share my thoughts from Luke 11:34-36 which is pointed out in the passage of Mt 6:23.

Both light and darkness co-exists in the world. Darkness never remains for it is overshadowed by the light. In other words, the light of the world is Jesus..

I want to focus on the light of God. The Eye of the Lamp is the window to our soul. In the natural, our eyes in order to see, need the light. When we remove the light, say when night falls, our eyes must adjust to the darkness by the amount of light available to us. The darker the night, the less light we have to see with.

This so true with me for I have night blindness. When light falls and I am driving in a not so lite area, my sight slowly erodes, and I pray for a well lighted area to drive through. The light helps my night blindness. The more light the better. Have you ever experience a black out? Tell me, what is the first thing you look you to? The light, of course. Light dispels darkness.

This is also true with our spiritual walk with the Lord. Here is something to consider: Do we walk in the light of Jesus or do we dabble with the darkness? If we are not careful, the darkness can overshadow the light of our Lamp, if it is not shining brightly for others to see. What I mean by this, is that we can enter into the darkness of the 'things of the world' that tempt us to do what is not right before God but right before ungodly men.(2 Cor5:16-21)

I remember when I first encountered the light of an authentic Christian. I was immediately drawn to her light. I was living in darkness but some how I knew there was something different or peculiar about her. When she walked past me, I could sense a sort of 'wind blowing' off of her. She appeared to be on a mission from God. I remember her talking about the things of God: being filled with joy unspeakable, and about all the things that God had done for her. I never approached her but stood at a distance and marveled at her being. Her lamp was shining so brightly that it pierced my darkness and gave me a glimpse of God.

I believe, the light that we shine upon others, can be a reflection of who God is. We are ambassadors for Christ. We should always strive to be Christ-like because WE are what the world sees.(Mat5: 14-16) v 14. ” You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deed and praise your Father in heaven.”

The world is living in darkness and they are the reason Jesus came down from heaven to be their light for whole world to see. As Christians, we have been given the the light of Jesus to penetrate the darkness that pervades the region we live in.

Where ever we live we should keep our lamps shining brightly for Jesus. People in darkness will come towards our light, and when they do, we need to be prepare to give an answer for the hope of glory that is in us. (Col 1:27 )- “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the Hope of Glory.”
