Sometimes inside of ordinary unexpected happenings God reaches down into that sudden situation for His honor and glory and allows us to experience extra-ordinary blessings of wonderful proportions. Our dog's surgery was the last place I expected to come out of with any blessings.
Molly is our 75 lb. chocolate lab, she is a search dog. After watching her limp off and on for several weeks, my "Dear Heart" decided to take her to the vet's. We found out she had a torn ligament in her knee. Surgery followed. She came home last Wednesday. God has already blessed me with several lessons from Molly having surgery.
#1) Persistant steady prayer avails much!
We have a large 85 lb black lab named Cobi also., normally my "Dear Heart" took both dogs for a walk. Now I was responsible to take Cobi for his daily walk while "DH" tended to Molly and her needs. A month ago I had lost my good camera, that I take everywhere with me, I love to take pictures. Not only had I lost my camera but in the case was a flash stick with about 5000 pictures! UGH! I was heart sick and offered up a lot of plea's and begging to God to help me find it.
Well I was walking Cobi in the far back lawn area, I felt drawn to the backside of the garage. There was an old swimming pool ladder there, and on the top step laid my camera case, I don't go in that area often and had laid it down well trimming some weeds back around the garage. I danced and sang praises over my find, and realized if I had not been walking Cobi out there I wouldn't have found it yet. God is so good!
#2) Returning to Basics with God
My special time alone with the Lord has taken a beating this summer and I had been slipping regularly in my devotions and alone time with Him. Molly sleeps with us and we have a king size bed that is quite high. Molly has always jumped off and on the bed. With the surgery she couldn't jump. My "DH" and I decided that we needed to tear down our king size bed and place the mattress on the floor so Molly could get off and on the bed without injuring her incision. Getting up off the floor for us is a whole new adventure. For me it is slowly kneeling by my bedside stand and slowly try to get up ....... It was then I had this light bulb moment. As long as I was kneeling anyway why not use the time to pray and read the Word for a short time? So I have discovered the joy of kneeling in prayer again!
We often are so busy looking for those larger then life blessings we rush right past all those small wonderful ones waiting in the corners of our life where it is just plain ordinary and sometimes a bit boring. Today as you start your day or end your day, examine those corners and nooks and crannies of your life and see what God has in store for you, you may be wonderfully surprised.
