I have always had a desire to play the guitar but it never quite eventuated. I can play but it’s very basic. This was due to a set of circumstances that gave me the idea that perhaps, this is not the right instrument for me.

My first guitar was bought with my first week wages as a teen and it was an acoustic. It had a beautiful sound and was easy to play, however, one day when I was relaxing in my room, I looked over at that guitar and suddenly I heard it a strum then there was a screeching sound coming from it. The strings began to break one by one and then the bridge of the guitar broke off and it destroyed itself in front of my eyes. So I got up and cautiously walked away.

Then I bought another acoustic guitar which my brother liked to play. While I was out one night, he had left it on the floor of my room and I didn’t turn any lights on when I got home because I didn't want to wake the family up. So I stepped through the sound hole completely destroying it.

The next guitar was an electric lead. Also very beautiful. Red and white and it had a whammy bar attached. It was an awesome guitar to play but I started to get a bad feeling about this guitar also. Probably because of the previous guitar episode so I got rid of it and sold it to a friend.. One day I asked him how he was enjoying the guitar and he said he only managed to play it once and it exploded.

Thus was the pattern of my desire to learn the guitar and the destruction of all the guitars I have owned except for the one I have now….(which I don’t play) This one was given to me as a present.

While all of this was going on in the background, I got an opportunity to sing with a lady who led the worship team in our newly formed church. It was okay but I still needed some convincing to go in that direction. God opened this door wide and after 25 years leading worship in several different churches. I think I found my instrument of choice. Worshiping God is so wonderful. It prepares hearts for the preaching of the word, it leads the congregation into the presence of God and it opens the door to the prophetic. Glory!
