Read: Luke 11:1-13
“Here’s what I’m saying: Ask and you’ll get; Seek and you’ll find; Knock and the door will open. “Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This is not a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. If your little boy asks for a serving of fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? If your little girl asks for an egg, do you trick her with a spider? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing—you’re at least decent to your own children. And don’t you think the Father who conceived you in love will give the Holy Spirit when you ask him?”
Luke 11:9-13 MSG
Thoughts: So first off, about the Lord's prayer, I read it in a few translations. I am a bit upset, because I have it memorized in KJV and NASB. On Youversion, for NASB, the part "Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven" is missing. I know I have sang the KJV in church, but I know my Bible front and back. Ill have to go back to my paperback when the lights are back on. And as wonderful as the Message is "Reveal Yourself" (and I do not know Greek, I think the Word for Word is important.
That being said, I love the idea set forward afterward clearing the passage up for me more in a new light. I know my prayers have transformed in the years, but it is still hard to ask for things boldly at times. I know He has the world. It is just He has done so much for me. I feel unworthy to ask for more. I am grateful for all He has given me. But going to Him directly is what He wants me to do. This is what the passage gets across to me. If we are kingdom minded, then what we ask for is going to benefit the kingdom. Not only that, but we are conceived in love. I know I love when my daughter asks me for something. I want to bless her. I am grateful God wants to bless me abundantly also. Hallowed be Thy Name. <3
