The idea of "forbidden" may conjure up all sorts of thoughts in your head. Our parents would have told us things like "don't play near the water on your own, don't cross the road without someone holding your hand, don't talk to strangers etc. This in my view, gives us a glimpse, an idea of what "forbidden" may mean.
The dictionary tells us that it basically means, it is not allowed. It is banned and there is always consequences for those who do not heed such warnings. It can cause harm or even death to self or others.
In the bible, although not clearly stated, the story of Adam and Eve's disobedience when God warned them not to eat fruit from the tree of knowledge, was disastrous. Eating fruit from that particular tree was clearly forbidden and disobeying God is called sin and we know that sin leads to death.
The outcome of their disobedience, plunged mankind into darkness for thousands of years due to disobedience which led to sin, until freedom, liberty and healing was found through God's promised son. Our Redeemer. The impact of that decision is still affecting this unrenewed world today and that can be seen in every aspect of human life.
There are many other places in the bible where God warns that acting upon certain impulses are forbidden and in other areas, he says "thou shalt not" which to me, is also considered forbidden ie: the Adam and Eve story.
Surprisingly, today, there are many believers who are still tempted by the forbidden. Whether that be for good intentions or perhaps plain old curiosity. Warnings prompted by the Holy Spirit are given to us for good reason. He warns us so that we do not fall into temptation as such temptations cannot compare to the price Jesus paid for us with his lifeblood.
1 Corinthians 10:14 ~ No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
