There is more than one reference to 'harlot' in the word. What is a harlot? The concordance says: a primitive root(highly fed and therefore wanton); to commit adultery: fornication. To commit idolatry.

Harlot being one that is highly fed and therefore wanton. "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." 1 John 2:16

We have all been as the harlot: highly fed and therefore wanton. Galatians 5:16 "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.'

Ephesians 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

We all can relate to Ephesians 2:3. If we say that is not us, then we lie. But the word speaks of a harlot being redeemed out of the world. There are too many verses pertaining to harlots. This post only mentions one: Rahab

Isaiah 51:9-10
[9] Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord;(put on the Son Jesus Christ, God) awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? [10] Art thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?

'O arm of the Lord' 'the Son' 'God' has made a way for the ransomed to pass over, a way for the ransomed to walk on dry ground through 'the great deep', through 'the sea'. He 'alone' parted the waters for the ransomed to cross over.

Psalm 89:8-10
[8] O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee? [9] Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them. [10] Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain(by the sword); thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.(Jesus Christ)

Psalm 87:1-6
[1] His foundation is in the holy mountains. [2] The Lord loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. [3] Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah. [4] I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there. [5] And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her. [6] The Lord shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there.

Rahab the harlot:

Joshua 2:1,9-13 KJV
[1] And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there. [9] And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. [10] For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you. And 'we believe'. For us also, today, He has dried the [Spiritual] sea, the [Spiritual] great deep, and had made a [Spiritual] way for the ransom to pass over.

[11] And as soon as we had heard these things , our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

HE is God in all. A foreshadowing of the cross in Psalm 22:14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. (bowels of compassion and mercy).

Same mercy and compassion Rahab spoke of: [12] Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord , since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token: [13] And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.

Joshua 6:17
[17] And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the Lord : only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

Joshua 6:22-23
[22] But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her. [23] And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.

And where did they put them? 'without the camp of Israel' in preparation for ONE that was ordained before the foundation of the world to: visit the poor and broken and the hungry and the raped and ravaged, and the unclean lepers, those stoned...and there, Rahab and all her kindred wait 'without the camp' to be 'ransomed'.

Joshua 26
[26] And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the Lord , that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

Hebrews 11:31 V
[31] By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace. (peace only given by the Lord)

James 2:25-26
[25] Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? [26] For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Why did Rahab go out the window, instead of through the streets?
