Perspectives;
While walking through a hospital one day, a woman who had to see a specialist decided to go to the bathroom before her appointment. A cleaner was in there at that time, cleaning the wash basins after mopping the floors. The woman apologized because she walked on her nice clean floors. The cleaner seemed annoyed and looked at her watch and said, could she please be quick, as she had other pressing tasks to finish that day? So she was quick and made it to her appointment on time. The next day the woman needed to see that specialist again and hesitated before going to the bathroom this time, but she went in anyway and found another cleaning lady doing similar tasks. The woman apologized again, but this time the cleaner smiled at her and told her not to worry about it and to take her time. The woman was surprised at her attitude and pleasant demeanor.
In this story there were two cleaners. One cleaner saw the tasks ahead and how much this may set her back, while the other cleaner saw the overall plan of how important it was to show kindness and hospitality to those who were going in to the hospital for whatever reason. These two cleaners had the same job but had totally different perspectives.
One cleaner saw the setbacks of accomplishing tasks that could ultimately slow her down. The other cleaner saw the overall plan and how she played an integral part in that plan.
This reminds me of the story of Mary and Martha found in Luke 10:38-42 “But the Lord answered and said to her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
