(5) PSALM 149

This Psalm is often used in connection with the future view. It does not, however contain much information to place it chronologically except in a way contrary to a future view. The claim is made that Psa 149:7 (highlighted below) is the equivalent of the seven plagues. (Verses 5-8 shown here for reference)

Let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds.
Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand,

To execute vengeance on the nations, and punishments on the peoples.
To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron.

However, Verse 8 (above) speaks of binding the kings with chains. A comparison with Rev 20:1 suggests that the binding with a chain, dates from the return of our Lord

Then I saw an angel (our Lord at his second advent) coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan (These titles represent primarily the Civil powers, but not without their unseen spiritual head the personal devil), and bound him for a thousand years.

There seems little or no reason to think that the chains of the Psalm are different from the chain of Rev 20:1. Therefore, this binding has been in progress since the 1870’s.

(6) REVELATION “ARCHITECTURE”

All of us who try to interpret prophecy have many things in the back of our minds which support our views which may or may not be significant or legitimate. One of those things in my own mind (Brother Doran’s) is the way the book of Revelation is constructed. We believe the middle of the book to be FIVE VIEWS of the harvest. Each view details the harvest from its beginning to its end.

IF THE PLAGUES ARE FUTURE, this would be the only one of the five views which does not cover the whole harvest. This, of course proves NOTHING, but it shows how our individual minds use different factors to interpretation of prophecy.

Those who hold a future view of the plagues need not tell us what each plague is because the plagues are future according to their view, and therefore not so clearly understood in detail. However, those of us who claim that some of the plagues are past MUST BE ABLE TO DOCUMENT WHAT THEY ARE or our position rings hollow.

We will address each of these as we begin our study of Chapter 16.

We feel the events of the 20th Century have, step-by-step, fulfilled the predictions made in Chapter 16. Not only this but we believe that the plagues have been able to keep us informed of where we are in the final events (where we are on the stream of time), and what we must expect to shortly come to pass.”

Brother Doran goes on to briefly summarize the plagues in his discourse, which we will cover in more detail when we begin our look at Chapter 16.
