Judgment begins with the House of God

In this study we will be looking at several different judgments, which are recorded in the Bible. Our aim is to find out when these judgments take place, and to whom exactly they apply.

The first thing we need in order to avoid any misunderstandings and/or confusion is to have a correct understanding of the word “judgment” and what it implies. The word “judgment” as used in John 5: 29the resurrection of judgment”, is from Strong’s # 2920, which in the Greek is rendered, “krisis,” a decision, or “turning point”, subjective or objective, for or against, a tribunal, the process of trying or testing the fitness, truth, strength, and/or other quality of a person or thing, thus “the process of judgment”.

The word judgment as found in 1 Pet 4:17, Strong’s # 2917 is “krima,” the result of judging, the final decision or conclusion of judgment, conclude, determine, sentence to, the judgment (pronounced).

Thus the word, judgment includes the idea of a trial time (krisis) as well as a decision based on that trial (krima). For example when Adam was tried in the Garden of Eden, this was his “krisis” period, (testing) to determine whether or not he would obey God, he felled and thus came the judgment or “krima”, the sentence of death. “…Dying thou shall die.” Gen 2:17

This was the first judgment rendered, one which not only affected him personally, but likewise all those within his lions, i.e. all mankind who share in the results of his failure, his judgment, and his sentence.

Because "…by one man’s disobedience all were made sinners…” Rom 5:19

Thus “There is none righteous, no, not one…” Rom 3:10

And so “…through one man’s offense the sentence came (extensively) to ALL MEN resulting in condemnation (death)…” Rom 5:18

The fathers (Adam) have eaten a sour grape (sinned), and the children’s (all of Adam’s children) teeth are set on edge (The nature of the fathers, being polluted by sin, is transmitted to the children, who come under the death sentence for having the same nature or disposition as the fathers).”Jer 31:29

“…as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men…” Rom 5:12

But God in his mercy foresaw the fall of Adam due to his inexperience with evil, and so provided a remedy, the “ransom”, “the free gift”, “For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.” Rom 5:15

And “…so also through one righteous act, the judgment (sentence) to justification of life came to ALL MEN (co-extensively). Rom 5:18

“It is not that God considers his decision in the first sentence unjust, but that he has provided redemption from the penalty...in order that he may grant another judgment (trial) under more favorable conditions to all mankind — all having then had experience with sin and its results. This coming judgment will be on the same principles as the first. The same law of obedience will be presented, with the same reward of life, and the same penalty of death. And as the first trial (krisis) had a beginning, progressed, and culminated with a sentence (krima), so also will the second; and the sentence will be life to the righteous, and death to the unrighteous.

Let us now examine this future judgment to come.

The scriptures divide the judging of mankind into two separate judgments, the judging of the Lords people, believers, and the judging of the world, which includes not only non-believers, but also many of those, who do believe, but who have not been obedient.

The first to be judge are the Lords people, now during this gospel age,

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God, and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 1 Pet 4:17

Next shall be the world,

“…God… hath appointed a day (the millennial day), in which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath risen him from the dead.” Acts 17:31

We will take a closer look at the first of these two scriptures in our next post.
