Should we obey the Lord or is he satisfied with lip service?
I will let Jesus and the Apostles answer the question.Should we obey the Lord or is he satisfied with lip service?
But I am hearing people say it's impossible to obey the Lord all the time.Hi Bob, if we settle for "lip service" we would be no different from the hypocritical Pharisees. God's not mocked...
But I am hearing people say it's impossible to obey the Lord all the time.
The Lord told us to repent. You aren't going to do that?because its true, you cant. No one can.
Matthew 19:26But I am hearing people say it's impossible to obey the Lord all the time.
Personally, I think perfection is achievable, with God's help.Matthew 19:26
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
All things are possible. So does obedience fall under all things ?
And Romans 6:1- shall we continue in sin that grace may abound ? May it never be!
But I am hearing people say it's impossible to obey the Lord all the time.
Well said sister !!!Well, you have a point there...the way I see it is that we are "growing" into perfection. We are NOT perfect...yet :) If we continue abiding in Him, we will grow more and more. I know that the sin I used to live in has definitely diminished greatly. I now struggle with studying to show myself approved (never had good study habits) and finding it very hard lately to pray fervently although, I do pray all day long as I do things around the house.
My prayer for you bro, is that you will grow in leaps and bounds!!!
Sing and play on brother, making beautiful music to our Lord!
@Bob Estey I think you must already know the answer to that. I don't believe you don't and wonder why you asked the question.Should we obey the Lord or is he satisfied with lip service?
I might ask: What is your definition of "perfect"? And I might ask: Is perfection achievable in this lifetime, with God's help?Well, you have a point there...the way I see it is that we are "growing" into perfection. I think I know the answer, but I keep running into people who claim it's impossible to always obey the Lord's commandments.@Bob Estey I think you must already know the answer to that. I don't believe you don't and wonder why you asked the question.
I might ask: What is your definition of "perfect"? And I might ask: Is perfection achievable in this lifetime, with God's help?
But let me answer my own questions: I would say "perfection" is obeying the Lord's commandments - nothing more than that. And, with God's help, though I am not there yet, I think we can achieve this in this lifetime.
It is impossible to be 100% sinless at all times but that doesn't mean that we are still sinners which is our human nature before we are born again. Once we are born again - which is to washed in the blood of Jesus - God then sees us as his own; just like a bereaved ewe will accept an orphaned lamb as her own if it is cover by the bloody skin of her own dead lamb. When we are covered by the blood of the Lamb we seen by God as righteous.I think I know the answer, but I keep running into people who claim it's impossible to always obey the Lord's commandments.
It's not true at all because Jesus did it. And don't bother with the "Jesus was God, so He was able to magically avoid sin" argument. The scriptures show Him saying in Matt. 19:16 that there was nothing inherently good about Him.because its true, you cant. No one can.
But Jesus didn't have the 'old nature' in him as we do because he was born without sin. The rest of us are born sinners, with sinful natures which we can't change and only through being 'covered' by the blood of the Lamb can we appear sinless to God. It isn't possible for those of us born as sinner to live a sinless existence. Even our thoughts can be sinful - rage and pride and hatred - but When we are 'in Christ' God see us as he sees his Son.It's not true at all because Jesus did it. And don't bother with the "Jesus was God, so He was able to magically avoid sin" argument. The scriptures show Him saying in Matt. 19:16 that there was nothing inherently good about Him.
Bob, have you sold all and given the money to the poor to follow after Christ? Have you fed the hungry, clothed the naked, and taken in strangers that are homeless? If not then you have not obeyed the Lord.Should we obey the Lord or is he satisfied with lip service?
