I was deeply grieved to watch the fake Pretrib claims re the early Church fathers on this video. I skipped the twisting of Scripture in the first part. That is because it has been so resolutely and repeatedly debunked over the years.

Pretribbers are no longer content at butchering the Word of God (and adding on to the Bible by forcing their teaching on the inspired text), they are now resorting to twisting the teaching of the early Church fathers, none of whom knew or promoted Pretrib. This is therefore an underhand rewriting of history. @rebuilder 454 has presented this video but is (not surprising) in capable of supporting any of the claims. All he can do is ignore my rebuttals. That is because he has no answers to the historic facts. Let us address the claims.

Eusebius

Fragments on Luke

“And just as happened in the days of Noah…” As was stated, he says that the destruction of the wicked will take place like it did for those who lived at the time of the flood, since the message of the gospel had been driven out due to their apostasy. Indeed, just as he destroyed all people then, except those who had gone with Noah into the ark, so too at his coming he will shut out and destroy as in the days of Noah the ungodly and unfaithful, who waste their time on luxury, sex, drink, and the pleasures of this life. So that no one would think these too will perish through water, he needed also to use the example of Lot
“Just as it happened in the days of Lot: ‘they were eating, drinking etc.’ but on the day that Lot left Sodom, he rained fire from heaven and destroyed everyone. It will be the same on the day when the Son of Man is revealed. He thereby teaches that unspeakably terrible wrath will come upon all the wicked as fire and brimstone sent from heaven. Thus, the word of the prophet is extended to the wicked who pray for that day to come —
Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord!” Why? “it will be darkness to you, and not light; a day of darkness and shadow, a day of dispair and disgrace.” Savior was extremely precise in his observation when he said that the divine fire from heaven did not come down upon the wicked in Sodom until Lot went out and was separated from them. It was the same way at the flood, when he came and destroyed all the inhabitants of the earth only after Noah had entered the ark. He says that it will be the same at the end of the age: the cataclysm of destruction for the wicked will not occur until those men found to belong to God are gathered into the heavenly ark, in accordance with the example of Noah. To these this word of the prophet will be spoken: “Go, my people, enter into your inner room… until the wrath of the Lord passes byNow just as in the time of Lot he acted so that the righteous did not perish along with the wicked, so at the end of age this destruction will not take place until all the righteous and God-fearing men on the earth are separated from the wicked and gathered into God’s heavenly ark. So when no righteous man can any longer be found among men, but all are godless, impious, and born from the antichrist and apostasy rules throughout the whole world, then the wrath of God will come upon the wicked.

This couldn’t be clearer. The elect (the Church) are caught up before God pours out His wrath upon the wicked. This is the final separation. Please see here: all the righteous are rescued. All the wicked are destroyed. This negates Pretrib Premillennialism and Posttrib Premillennialism that both promote human mortal survivors of the pouring out of God’s wrath who populate their supposed future 7 year trib or their supposed future millennium.

“where the body is, there the vultures will gather.”

The disciples had asked, “Lord, where?” because they wanted to know where those not taken would be left. He said in reply, “where the body is” (or “the corpse”, as in Matthew) “there the vultures will gather.” By mentioning birds that feed on the dead, he hints at the rulers of this age, who at that time will persecute the holy ones of God. When these rulers gather together, the one unworthy of being taken will be gathered into their presence. This person is the other of those sleeping on the bed, and the other one of the women grinding grain. They will be handed over to the vultures gathered against them. The word of the prophet also calls those besieging Jerusalem vultures, like when it says of Nebuchadnezzar, “The great and great-winged vulture.” Perhaps by another interpretation the eagles refer to the powers of punishment and retribution who will come upon the ungodly. The Savior follows by exhorting us to persist in prayer, so that we will not be handed over to them.

All that is left on earth is death and destruction. No one survives. The vultures here feed on the corpses of the unregenerate.

Irenaeus

Against Heresies Book V, Chapter XXXIV:

And again the same speaks thus: “These things saith the Lord, I will gather Israel from all nations whither they have been driven, and I shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the sons of the nations: and they shall dwell in their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob. And they shall dwell in it in peace; and they shall build houses, and plant vineyards, and dwell in hope, when I shall cause judgment to fall among all who have dishonoured them, among those who encircle them round about; and they shall know that I am the Lord their God, and the God of their fathers. Now I have shown a short time ago that the church is the seed of Abraham; and for this reason, that we may know that He who in the New Testament raises up from the stones children unto Abraham, is He who will gather, according to the Old Testament, those that shall be saved from all the nations, Jeremiah says: Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that they shall no more say, The Lord liveth, who led the children of Israel from the north, and from every region whither they had been driven; He will restore them to their own land which He gave to their fathers.”

Irenaeus places the Old Testament Church and the New Testament Church under one umbrella. He shows that the Church is true Israel!

Against Heresies Book V, Chapter XXXII:2.

Thus, then, the promise of God, which He gave to Abraham, remains stedfast. For thus He said: “Lift up thine eyes, and look from this place where now thou art, towards the north and south, and east and west. For all the earth which thou seest, I will give to thee and to thy seed, even for ever.” And again He says, Arise, and go through the length and breadth of the land, since I will give it unto thee;” and [yet] he did not receive an inheritance in it, not even a footstep, but was always a stranger and a pilgrim therein. And upon the death of Sarah his wife, when the Hittites were willing to bestow upon him a place where he might bury her, he declined it as a gift, but bought the burying-place (giving for it four hundred talents of silver) from Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite. Thus did he await patiently the promise of God, and was unwilling to appear to receive from men, what God had promised to give him, when He said again to him as follows: “I will give this land to thy seed, from the river of Egypt even unto the great river Euphrates.”

If, then, God promised him the inheritance of the land, yet he did not receive it during all the time of his sojourn there, it must be, that together with his seed, that is, those who fear God and believe in Him, he shall receive it at the resurrection of the just. For his seed is the Church, which receives the adoption to God through the Lord, as John the Baptist said: “For God is able from the stones to raise up children to Abraham.” Thus also the apostle says in the Epistle to the Galatians: “But ye, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of the promise.” And again, in the same Epistle, he plainly declares that they who have believed in Christ do receive Christ, the promise to Abraham thus saying, “The promises were spoken to Abraham, and to his seed. Now He does not say, And of seeds, as if [He spake] of many, but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.” And again, confirming his former words, he says, Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore, that they which are of faith are the children of Abraham. But the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, declared to Abraham beforehand, That in thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which are of faith shall be blessed with faithful Abraham. Thus, then, they who are of faith shall be blessed with faithful Abraham, and these are the children of Abraham. Now God made promise of the earth to Abraham and his seed; yet neither Abraham nor his seed, that is, those who are justified by faith, do now receive any inheritance in it; but they shall receive it at the resurrection of the just. For God is true and faithful; and on this account He said, Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

Irenaeus refers to the Abrahamic covenant and spiritualizes it to relate to the Church, not national Israel. Abraham is presented as experiencing this promise with all the people of God throughout the ages when Jesus comes.

4. The Lord also spoke as follows to those who did not believe in Him: I have come in my Father's name, and you have not received Me: when another shall come in his own name, him you will receive, calling Antichrist the other, because he is alienated from the Lord. This is also the unjust judge, whom the Lord mentioned as one who feared not God, neither regarded man, to whom the widow fled in her forgetfulness of God—that is, the earthly Jerusalem,— to be avenged of her adversary. Which also he shall do in the time of his kingdom: he shall remove his kingdom into that [city], and shall sit in the temple of God, leading astray those who worship him, as if he were Christ. To this purpose Daniel says again: And he shall desolate the holy place; and sin has been given for a sacrifice, and righteousness been cast away in the earth, and he has been active (fecit), and gone on prosperously. And the angel Gabriel, when explaining his vision, states with regard to this person: And towards the end of their kingdom a king of a most fierce countenance shall arise, one understanding [dark] questions, and exceedingly powerful, full of wonders; and he shall corrupt, direct, influence (faciet), and put strong men down, the holy people likewise; and his yoke shall be directed as a wreath [round their neck]; deceit shall be in his hand, and he shall be lifted up in his heart: he shall also ruin many by deceit, and lead many to perdition, bruising them in his hand like eggs. And then he points out the time that his tyranny shall last, during which the saints shall be put to flight, they who offer a pure sacrifice unto God: And in the midst of the week, he says, the sacrifice and the libation shall be taken away, and the abomination of desolation [shall be brought] into the temple: even unto the consummation of the time shall the desolation be complete. Now three years and six months constitute the half-week.

Yes, he is a Futurist! What does this prove? This is classic Postrttrib Premillennialism.

Against Heresies Book V: Chapter XXIX (29)

1. In the previous books I have set forth the causes for which God permitted these things to be made, and have pointed out that all such have been created for the benefit of that human nature which is saved, ripening for immortality that which is [possessed] of its own free will and its own power, and preparing and rendering it more adapted for eternal subjection to God. And therefore the creation is suited to [the wants of] man; for man was not made for its sake, but creation for the sake of man. Those nations, however, who did not of themselves raise up their eyes unto heaven, nor returned thanks to their Maker, nor wished to behold the light of truth, but who were like blind mice concealed in the depths of ignorance, the word justly reckons “as waste water from a sink, and as the turning-weight of a balance—in fact, as nothing;” so far useful and serviceable to the just, as stubble conduces towards the growth of the wheat, and its straw, by means of combustion, serves for working gold. And therefore, when in the end the Church shall be suddenly caught up from this, it is said, There shall be tribulation such as has not been since the beginning, neither shall be. For this is the last contest of the righteous, in which, when they overcome they are crowned with incorruption.

Yes, he is a Futurist! What does this prove? This is classic Postrttrib Premillennialism.

Pretribbers use this last line to make Irenaeus a Pretribber. But they miss (or twist) what he was saying: “‘There shall be tribulation such as has not been since the beginning, neither shall be’. For this is the last contest of the righteous, in which, when they overcome they are crowned with incorruption.”

Irenaeus exegetes the text for us and applies it to the last battle the righteous fight against the wicked before the one final future coming of Christ. This is the last battle between righteousness and unrighteousness. The elect therefore endure through the tribulation and are caught up when Jesus comes at the one final future coming of Christ.

Against Heresies Book V, Chapter V.1.

[In order to learn] that bodies did continue in existence for a lengthened period, as long as it was God’s good pleasure that they should flourish, let [these heretics] read the Scriptures, and they will find that our predecessors advanced beyond seven hundred, eight hundred, and nine hundred years of age; and that their bodies kept pace with the protracted length of their days, and participated in life as long as God willed that they should live. But why do I refer to these men? For Enoch, when he pleased God, was translated in the same body in which he did please Him, thus pointing out by anticipation the translation of the just. Elijah, too, was caught up [when he was yet] in the substance of the [natural] form; thus exhibiting in prophecy the assumption of those who are spiritual, and that nothing stood in the way of their body being translated and caught up. For by means of the very same hands through which they were moulded at the beginning, did they receive this translation and assumption. For in Adam the hands of God had become accustomed to set in order, to rule, and to sustain His own workmanship, and to bring it and place it where they pleased. Where, then, was the first man placed? In paradise certainly, as the Scripture declares “And God planted a garden [paradisum] eastward in Eden, and there He placed the man whom He had formed.” And then afterwards when [man] proved disobedient, he was cast out thence into this world. Wherefore also the elders who were disciples of the apostles tell us that those who were translated were transferred to that place (for paradise has been prepared for righteous men, such as have the Spirit; in which place also Paul the apostle, when he was caught up, heard words which are unspeakable as regards us in our present condition), and that there shall they who have been translated remain until the consummation [of all things], as a prelude to immortality.

Hello! This is talking about heaven now. This is where believers are translated upon death.

Are Pretribber not convicted when the twist the facts?

Yea, I don't really have to address the specifics--I've dealt with similar for some years. I agree that there are elements contained in Pretrib that preexisted Darby and Irving--they may even be called an embryonic form of Pretribulionism. But I think you're right--they certainly weren't the kind of Pretribulationism that Darby developed or that is believed in today.

For example, Pretrib believes that the Church will escape the Wrath of God. Earlier Church beliefs contained a belief that the Church will depart just before the outpouring of God's wrath at Armageddon--a sort of Pretrib belief, but certainly not a Rapture 7 years prior to the 2nd Coming.

The Church for the most part believed Paul when he said that prior to Christ's Return for his Church, the Antichrist must be revealed. And so, you will find in the Church Fathers belief in the coming of Antichrist *before* the Return of Christ for his Church. I don't find any belief whatsoever that the Church is Raptured prior to the rise of Antichrist. If it's there I stand corrected.

Another common element of Pretrib is belief in the Imminent Return of Christ. The Church in history also believed that Christ's Return was relatively soon. But it was not this "any day it can take place" belief that I know of?

Where in history are we told that Christ can return on any day? As far as I know, belief that he is coming soon simply meant that in the face of eternity, all things are leading to resolution by Christ's Return, as opposed to endless cycles that are never fully resolved.

Yes, some early Christians believed that Christ's Coming was literally imminent, as in Paul's warning to the Thessalonians in the 2nd chapter--don't be over-anxious, he said. Those who follow some self-proclaimed coming of Christ are missing the fact that Antichrist must come first. So said Paul.

And Christ himself warned those who thought the Kingdom was coming imminently. In fact, Christ said Jerusalem must fall first, leading to an age-long Jewish Diaspora. That is hardly Imminency Doctrine!

So, belief that Christ's Coming is relatively soon is hardly Pretrib Imminency Doctrine. Such proofs from history are shallow, and do not prove the Church ignored Paul's teaching in 2 Thes 2--that Antichrist must come first, and Christ's coming will only take place when he comes to destroy him.

I agree! They take statements that we all believe and attribute that exclusively to Pretrib. To them: wrath = a 7 year trib. To most of us (and the early writers): wrath equals the destruction that accompanies the coming of Christ.

For the record: I presented these full ECF quotes to refute the claims of this Pretrib speaker. He is so twisting the beliefs of these ECF Posttribbers. With this loose type of interpretation they could (honestly) make us all Pretribbers. The reason why Pretribbers will not discuss his is because they have no ancient supporters.

Yes, I would emphasize your point. The wrath of God was not so much endtime tribulations the Church wanted to avoid, but much more, eternal judgment. The Church has all through the ages gone through tribulations. They could hardly have thought that somehow at the end of the age they will escape a final period of tribulation under Antichrist.

The Reformers thought they were already somewhat in the final tribulation and that the Pope was the Antichrist, or perhaps the False Prophet. They certainly did not think the Church would escape something they were already in! ;)

No, the big thing the Church has been taught to believe they will escape from is eternal judgment. Christ died to save us from eternal damnation--not to give us a brief reprieve from Antichristian persecution, which had been taking place since the early Church!

Yes, and by extension "God's Wrath," which we are saved from, means anything that takes our present mortal life and delivers us into Eternal Punishment. We are saved from *that Wrath,* and not from a 7 year period of trouble at the end of the age.

As I said, the Church has gone through antichristian-type trouble from the very beginning of the Church age. Going through this kind of trouble is *not* "God's Wrath" in the biblical sense. It is only "God's Wrath" when any death occurs to men that delivers them into Eternal Punishment.

And the death of martyrs in any time of great tribulaton does not deliver them into Eternal Punishment! Christians are delivered from Eternal Punishment the moment they are Saved, accepting Jesus as the atonement for their sins. Whether they live or die, they are free from the sentence of Eternal Punishment. This is the "Wrath of God" that we are delivered from.

When mankind undergoes global judgment at Christ's Coming, many Christians will die. In my view, Armageddon is a very short global war, alongside other largescale judgments from God. But the Christians who die in this conflagration will have experienced not "God's Wrath," but a death that leads to resurrection to Eternal Life.

This escapism theology is popular because it appeals to the flesh.

You nailed it. Christians are afraid and trying to save their own skin. Quite frankly, it isn't within our power to escape suffering--it happens to us all regardless.

The only thing we need to resolve is whether we will suffer in glory or in shame. I'd much rather go down confessing the faith rather than begging God to escape from all tests to our faith.

Amen. I think this theology appeals to many Americans who believe they are exempt from tribulation because we have religion freedom and military might.

Rapture Wimpism

Any student of Scripture with even a cursory knowledge of the NT Church knows that tribulation in the form of persecution, suffering, and death has been the lot of the Church ever since its birth. From its persecution at the hands of the Jews, to that under the Roman emperors and empires, to that today under Islam and other ideologies; the Church's experience with tribulation has been unrelenting, and its death toll over the millennia is counted in the tens of millions.

In the NT, we see in the book of Acts a complete account of how the disciples and Christ's followers were hated and persecuted as Jesus had predicted (Matthew 24:9). In Acts 4: "And they laid hands on them [Peter and John], and put them in prison" (verse 3). In Acts 5, they were "beaten" (verse 40). As they departed from the "council", they rejoiced "that they were counted worthy to suffer for his name"(verse 41). In Acts 7, Stephen was killed for his stand (verses 54-60). In Acts 8:1 "There was a great persecution against the church." In Acts 16, Paul and Silas were beaten and cast into prison. In Acts 21, persecution resulted in Paul being beaten, and brought before rulers, before whom he testified (Acts 22). In Acts 22:19 we read that Paul confessed that prior to his conversion, he had "imprisoned and beaten in every synagogue" those who believed in Christ.

There was, and is, no lack of tribulation for the NT Church.

But deplorably, we see today a generation of what can best be described as “rapture wimps.” This generation of North American believers, the most “molycoddled and milquetoast” in the history of the Christian Church, seems in large part to believe that it is also entitled to escape the trials and privations which have beset the historic Church, and to be “...carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease” as the beloved hymn “Am I a Soldier of the Cross” describes.

The following partial enumeration of NT tribulation references...:

John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Acts 14:22
Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Romans 5:3
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

2 Corinthians 1:4
Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

1 Thessalonians 3:4
For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.

Revelation 1:9
I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

...makes it clear that there is no room for rapture wimps in the Christian Church. In solidarity with other believers in parts of the world who suffer tribulation even as we read this, we must be prepared to, as did and do these, “fight to win the prize and sail through bloody seas”, as we see the hymnwriter further pen.

God has promised...:

John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

...that we can be triumphant in Him even in the midst of tribulation. He promises us all of His grace and resources to make this a reality.

But the promise is only for those who resolve to eschew rapture wimpism.

Romans 5:3
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

Well put!

This is 101 Christianity since Christ. This forbids Pretrib.

Amen. I think this theology appeals to many Americans who believe they are exempt from tribulation because we have religion freedom and military might.
That is a pretty broad generalization. But yes, there may be some grounds for thinking that.

You Against the Lords Sanctification and Escaping “Tribulations” From Heaven…

YOU would do well to quote members on “THIS”” Forum”… to make your case “Against Them” that “THEY” can present “THEIR OWN” case for their Belief”…

Instead of lumping them with some “unknown YouTuber’s position”.

Tribulations The Saved ON Earth Suffer…
ARE from people “like you” and “unbelievers”.

Never Does Scripture “Teach” God “sends” Tribulations From Heaven “For the Righteous Saved” to suffer Gods Torments, Wrath.

End of days Tribulations “Sent” from Heaven “upon the Whole World” ARE Judgements, ARE Gods Anger, Gods Wrath… Upon the “Unrighteous inhabitants”… WHO “Rejected”
Gods Offering to Become MADE Saved.

Rom 1:
[18] For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
[19] Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
[20] For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
[21] Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
[22] Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
[23] And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
[24] Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
[25] Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

* As in the day of Noah…
The Righteous Shall be Saved From suffering Gods SENT from Heaven, Tribulations and Wrath Upon the whole Earth.

Matt 24:
[37] But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

* Same as was Noah Saved BY being Lifted Up “Above the Earth.”

Gen 7:
[17] And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.

1 Thes 4:
[16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
[17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Caught Up… Rise up Above the Earth…
In whatever Language you choose…
Harpazo
Rapitur
Rapture

If that Does NOT Apply to YOU, not News, it does Not Apply to the Majority of human men…
* Same as in Noah’s Day, it ONLY applied to a righteous Few, that were Lifted UP Above the Earth, while God destroyed the Unrighteous inhabitants upon the Earth.

The Lifting up From the face of the Earth…
Before Tribulations SENT Down from Heaven Begins…
* exclusively Applies To Righteous Noah and his family…
And Again…Before Tribulations SENT Down from Heaven Begins…
* exclusively Applies to the Righteous “MADE Sanctified IN Christ the Lord.”

IF YOU are NOT among the Righteous The Lord Delivers From the face of the Earth …
so be it.
Why spend your time hating, gossiping, trying to influence men to Reject Christ the Lords Deliverance from Heavenly Tribulations?

Warning…
Rom 1 ( continued for your knowledge )…
[20] For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
[21] Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
[22] Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools…
* Backbiters and without Understanding.

1 Thes 1:
[10] And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which deliver-ED us from the wrath to come.

Deliver-ED… Past tense…accomplish-ED

IF that does NOT apply to YOU, so be it.
THAT DOES APPLY to those who ARE “IN Christ.”

Thanks be unto God…

Amen, brother. If any Christian is not experiencing tribulation and persecution in their lives, then they are doing something wrong. Living a godly life and being bold for Christ WILL result in tribulation and persecution.

2 Timothy 3:12 Yes, and ALL who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus WILL suffer persecution.
