Romans 7:12, this inner battle is part of the human experience, one that even the most dedicated believers face. In his struggle, Paul points to the law, God’s holy standard as both a guide and a mirror. The law reveals what is good and right, yet it also exposes your inability to live up to it perfectly, it’s like looking into a mirror that shows every flaw. But while the law teaches you what is right, it doesn’t give you the power to overcome sin, instead, the law makes you aware of how much you need a savior. Paul uses powerful language to describe the pull of sin, calling it a law within himself, that is waging war against his desire to do good.

This struggle reflects a deeper truth, that sin is not just a matter of behavior, but a spiritual battle, a war being fought within your very souls and while this might sound discouraging, Paul’s honesty is actually freeing. Why, because Paul shows you that struggling with sin doesn’t disqualify you from God’s love or grace, instead, sin reminds you of your dependence on Christ, what do you do in the face of this struggle? Paul’s answer is profound, you turn to God, acknowledging your weakness and trusting in his strength. Romans 7:24-25, this declaration is Paul’s turning point, he recognizes that his own efforts cannot save him, only Christ can.

Here’s the beautiful paradox, the very struggle you feel is what leads you to deeper reliance on God, your weakness points you to his strength, your failures to his forgiveness and your need to his grace. Paul calls you to lay down your pride and lean into God’s grace every day. Romans 8:1, even in your struggle, God doesn’t condemn you, instead, he offers you his Holy Spirit to help you, to strengthen you and to remind you of your new identity as his beloved children. In your struggles, you are still fully accepted and fully loved by God, when Paul admits his struggles, he isn’t looking for sympathy, he’s inviting you to find hope.

The struggle is real, but it doesn’t define, what defines you is God’s grace, his forgiveness and his promise is to be with you every step of the way. Romans chapter 7, Paul exposes the tension that every believer feels, but he also points you to the solution, life in the Holy Spirit. This is a life, not of striving, but of trusting, not of condemnation, but of grace, Paul’s struggle reminds you that perfection isn’t the goal, relationship is and as you deepen your relationship with God, the power of sin loses its hold and you begin to experience true freedom. Have you been carrying the weight of your own struggles, feeling defeated by the things you can’t seem to overcome, Paul’s message is a reminder to release that burden and place it in God’s hands, through Jesus you are forgiven, loved and empowered to live in victory.

This Paul thing that I'm seeing a lot more of recently as the goto Apostle for what I've seen called as 'now' or 'today' is starting to make sense to me

Take up your cross, when Jesus said this, everyone knew exactly what a cross meant, it wasn’t a pretty necklace, it was an instrument of execution. Jesus is not talking about dealing with minor inconveniences, he’s talking about a lifestyle of constant death, death to your desires, to your ego, to your need for control, to your right to be comfortable. Everyone in churches sings about surrendering to Jesus, the songs are full of these dramatic declarations, but on Monday morning, those same people are fighting for their rights, defending their reputation, protecting their comfort and building their little personal empires.

Some people have been sold a gospel where Jesus is a heavenly personal assistant, who exists to make your life easier. A gospel where God is like a cosmic Santa Claus who hands out blessings if you behave well. A gospel where faith is a tool to get what you want, instead, of a call to die, to get what God wants. Happiness is never the ultimate goal in scripture, holiness is, faithfulness is, obedience is and sometimes the road to those things is paved with pain, Luke 9:23, not take up their dreams, not take up their comfort, take up their cross.

Jesus said "deny yourself and take your own cross and follow me". You have to deny yourself and identify with Jesus and follow His way.

A cross meant suffering, a cross meant dying, a cross meant choosing a path that went against everything your flesh craved. Our souls are not healed through comfort, they’re refined through fire, comfort never changed anyone, but the cross, it changes everything. Paul was not writing to a comfortable community, he was writing to people who needed to decide every day whether they would shape their conscience by the environment or shape their presence in the environment through their conscience. This decision is not made once, it is remade in every conversation, in every choice of entertainment, in every relationship, in every moment when something wrong presents itself disguised as acceptable, making the most of the time, because the days are evil.

Jesus shows, the way he talks and acts, expresses the mindset of somebody who believes their identity is the unique seed of the women, the chosen son of Abraham, the chosen one of David and the son of man, the son of humanity from Daniel chapter 7.

What verses are they using to do that, can you give an examples ?

Ephesians 2:21, the image used by Paul is vivid and precise, you are stones in a continuous spiritual construction, each person who receives Christ is inserted into this structure, not as an ornament, but as an essential part of the support, this calls you to the responsibility of understanding your place in the body and acting faithfully. The building up of the body of Christ is not a task exclusive to religious leaders or theology specialists, each member has a function, a calling, a specific space, there are gifts and talents distributed by the Holy Spirit for the purpose of the body growing, maturing and revealing to the world, the living presence of God.

Between the shedding of the old and the putting on of the new, Paul inserts an essential element in Ephesians 4:23, to be renewed in the spirit of your mind. This phrase is the central axis of transformation, the mind is the battlefield where change occurs or fails. The renewed mind suggests a continuous renewal, not a one-time event, it’s a process of replacing old thought patterns with new ones, of substituting lies with truth, of dismantling mental strongholds that supported the old way of living. The renewed mind is not an empty mind, but a reoriented mind, realigned with the truth of God, this is where many Christians fail, they try to change behavior without renewing the mind and the result is a frustrating struggle between what they know they should do and what they continue to think and feel.

This renewal of the mind happens through the word of God, Romans 12:2, it is by the renewal of the mind, that you are able to experience the good, pleasing and perfect will of God, the renewal of the mind is not passive, it requires discipline and deliberate choice. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, this means there are thought structures that need to be torn down, they are deep-rooted beliefs, lies repeated so many times that they seem true, mental patterns that were formed before conversion and continue to operate automatically.

Romans 12:2 - And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Proverbs 30:6 -

Do not add to His words
Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.

To renew the mind, is to question these patterns, to compare every thought with the truth of scripture and to consciously replace the false with the true, it is a daily intentional work that requires meditation on the word, submission to the Holy Spirit and fellowship with other Christians who can help identify areas of distorted thinking. Without the renewal of the mind, the Christian remains infantile, wavering, unable to discern between good and evil, vulnerable to every wind of doctrine.

Ephesians 4:25, lying is one of the most evident marks of the old man, since Eden, where the serpent distorted God’s word, lying has been the tool of deception. Jesus Christ identified the devil as the father of lies in John 8:44, there is no truth in him and that when he lies, he speaks from his own character. When Christian lie, they operating according to the nature of the enemy, not according to the nature of God, truth on the other hand, is essential to divine character. God cannot lie, Titus 1:2, when the new man speaks the truth, the believer is reflecting the nature of the one who created you.

More and More I am seeing why Paul is the only goto Apostle for today.
MUST and SHOULD
To enter Heaven the only MUST is believing, understanding and trusting the death, the burial, the resurrection (DBR) of Christ
The verse you quote is a great example of how a believer SHOULD then lead their life.

Ephesians 4:24, presents the positive side of the command, to put on the new man, to shed the old, is an act of death, to put on the new, is an act of resurrection. Paul is not asking Christians to create a new version of themselves through moral effort, he is saying, that there is already a new man created according to God in true righteousness and holiness. Created, this is the same word used for the original creation of the world, this means that the new man is not a reform of the old, but a completely new creation, it is something that God has done, not something you produce, your responsibility is to put on this new identity, to live according to who you have already become in Christ.

Yes, agreed NewN, Paul teaches how we SHOULD live our life once we are saved.
He teaches what we MUST believe to be saved then Paul teaches how we SHOULD lead our lives but nowhere can I find where Paul teaches SHOULD is a condition to be saved.
Do you have verses from Paul that you believe teaches otherwise ?

Ephesians 5:10 deserves careful attention, Paul instructs believers to discern what is pleasing to the Lord, this verse does not indicate a one-time investigation that is done and finished, it indicates a continuous process of discernment, a posture of someone who is constantly tuning their moral and spiritual sense to the character of God. In difficult days, one of the biggest traps is not the approval of obvious evil, few believers consciously approve what is clearly wrong. The greater trap is in the gradual approval of what is ambiguous, of what seems neutral, but gradually diverts the heart from what truly matters. What you approve, reveals where your heart is and what you fail to question, reveals how far your conscience has already been anesthetized. The contemporary culture has developed sophisticated normalization mechanisms, what would shock a previous generation becomes common for the next, not because it has become less harmful, but because repeated exposure has reduced the capacity for strangeness.
