Caught my very first Trout in Lake Taupo back in teh 80s when we visited on the Adelaide. Couple of my mates needed a 5th person to share the cost so went along for teh weekend. I got teh biggest other mate got 2. 5 people for 3 fish. Brother lives in Invercargill, hope to visit Him before teh world self destructs.

You wouldn't recognise Taupo today. One of the fastest growing towns in the country. The population now around the 35000 so officially its a city. I remember visiting regularly or passing through from Napier as a wee kid in the 50s. A friend of my parents owned a bach/crib there. (Dunno the Ozzie version of small holiday home) The bach was one street away from the beachfront. There was just one store in town...a general store that sold petrol. I remember walking into the paddock at the back of the house and collecting volcanic soil in display flasks. That paddock would now be the city center. Gone a long way in just 60 years. BTW, never did like trout. Lovely flavor but couldn't be bothered picking my way through the innumerable bones. Taupo still is an awesome place to visit with the many hot springs and nature walks around steam geysers and volcanoes etc.

PS Part of the reason I'm now in Oz is to get warm. So have no interest in Invercargill. Never been there, probly wont.

Okay, did a little research to discover that the population of Taupo is 24000...typical male I am. Do the research after the horse has bolted; or look up the instructions after the mobile phone doesn't work properly.

Where abouts ?
It runs from Upper Yarra Reservoir, and it feeds the Silvan Dam, both in the Yarra Ranges, Victoria, not open to the public though, there is a gate at the end of the road that leads to it, unfortunately if you continue walking along the Yarra-Silvan conduit trail you will find a sign saying public entry not permitted on the main gates to those Melbourne water management tracks, no sign on the gate at the end of the road though where my block is.

But it sure is a peaceful sight, with just the sound of the water running.

Everything you see in the Napier pic above was either shaken down or burned down in an earthquake in 1931.

you teh hairy one ??
On #224 with camera on a tripod and I set it on a timer so I could be in the picture [far right hairy fellow].

I took the picture on #225 but was not in it. During that whole year in Europe I never shaved or got a haircut. By the time I got home I was quite shaggy. When I met my wife I had a full beard but it was well trimmed. Within a couple years after our marriage in 1972 she had convinced me to shave. I have not had a beard or mustache since.

This is at the other end of the aqueduct near the Upper Yarra dam past Warburton, I'm in Ferny Creek at the moment, but I got a block of land in McMahons Creek, we got a house in East Warby too, we're only renting in Ferny Creek though

Mangahao Hydro-electric power plant @ Mangore, near Shannon, Tararua Mountain Range, North Island NZ. My Dad worked there for a short time. We lived up near there, in a government home...home was torn down in the 80s I gather.
