All of the law is fulfilled in and through Christ and the indwelling Holy Spirit. All of it.

Biblically, the law ended when Jesus rose from the dead! Jesus fulfilled all the demands of the Old Covenant and like it is written it is obsolete!

In what regard?

YOu spout all your obedience to the law- but obedience does not save us nor make us righteous!

I assure you "love your neighbor as yourself"—Leviticus 19:18 has not been done away with. That gets fulfilled in us when we walk by the Spirit and keep commands like 'don't show favoritism', 'don't lie', 'don't commit adultery', etc. Meanwhile, there are various worship commands that have been 'laid aside' as unneeded now as to their literal keeping, but still fulfilled, nonetheless, for us by Christ and the indwelling Holy Spirit. The law of circumcision, for example. The literal law is laid aside as unneeded now because it's requirement has already been fulfilled for the believer through faith in Christ and the indwelling Holy Spirit. There is no more need to do that which has already been done for us in Christ.

As per teh old covenant it is null and void! However for teh church that rule that was commanded to Israel is also commanded of us. I do not love my neighbor as myself because teh Old covenant says so, I do it because it is a command for the new man the church!

The Bible does not create this dichotomy between doing something because the law of Moses says to do it, and doing it because the church references some kind of different law for us to follow. Read James 2. James is literally using the law of Moses to teach the church what "believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ" should be doing and not doing.

But yet you pick and choose what laws of the Old you should obey and what laws you feel have been fulfilled.

James also wrote that if you break the law in one point- you are guilty of breaking all 613 commands!

Hebrews 8:6-13
King James Version

6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.

8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

The old covenant was made with the Israelis alone! not with the world. and that covenant is now old and like Paul said in Galatians:

Galatians 3:21-25
King James Version

21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

here is sin you commit in the heat of the moment. Contrast that with marking your calendar to watch the next episode of your favorite pornographic series on cable. Big difference between the two.
There is a difference in description, but neither are from Spirit. Sin is sin is sin.

Let's talk about righteous.

You've hijacked my thread about people's obsession with sin, to go on and on about SinSinSin.

Much love!

If the Lord brought it to my attention that I have been antagonistic towards people, should I seek to correct that behaviour myself or should I sit back and wait for God to do it?

Rely on the Holy Spirit, for sure.....but realize that the Holy Spirit is our “ HELPER”.....NOT our “ DOER”....
God IS doing it as we make that correction. He's working inside, and we are on the hook that as He dials down our temper, we stop choosing to be angry. And we choose to love instead.

Much love!

Has anyone else noticed that threads which discuss our salvation become so focused on sin?

Why is that?

Salvation is through faith in Christ.

Why aren't we talking more about that?

Much love!
Sin is to be repented of as often as required...this is the salvation of our soul.
Sanctification is the second part of our overall salvation.

I definitely agree if we are sinning we are to stop.

But repentance - metanoia - the exchanging of the mind - is at salvation, when we first come to Christ, having repented of our sin. After He changes us, we have a new mind, and we don't "metanoia" again, but we do stop sinning if we are.

I believe our salvation is found entirely in Jesus Christ, and not in our own behavior.

Much love!

Just wondering about your intent.

Was there anything in particular you had in mind for me to learn?

Much love!
No, I’m not trying to teach anyone anything. Maybe the answer is in when we stop being finger putter forththers then things can really change. In my opinion if we put more time and energy into encouraging instead of condemning then the house can be built.

Amen!

That's the entire reason for this thread!

How so? The brazen altar was fulfilled at Calvary. Do you know of any further activity of Christ as High Priest representing the other aspects of atonement?
I think a there are people who read that Christ fulfills the law in us, and they are thinking it means through us. Jesus didn't save us to be law keepers, any more than caterpillars turn into butterflys so that they can crawl on leaves eating them.

“I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts” (Hebrews 8:10)

The Law of God in the New Testament.
1. "You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve" (Matthew 4:10).
2. "Little children, keep yourselves from idols" (1 John 5:21). "Since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising" (Acts 17:29).
3. "That the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed" (1 Timothy 6:1).
4. "He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: 'And God rested on the seventh day from all His works.' There remains therefore a rest ["keeping of a sabbath," margin] for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His" (Hebrews 4:4, 9, 10).
5. "Honor your father and your mother" (Matthew 19:19).
6. "You shall not murder" (Romans 13:9).
7. "You shall not commit adultery" (Matthew 19:18).
8. "You shall not steal" (Romans 13:9).
9. "You shall not bear false witness" (Romans 13:9).
10. "You shall not covet" (Romans 7:7).

The Law of God in the New Testament.

All the law:

Romans 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Must be counting God as a neighbor, eh?

Maybe you were under such a law at some point but I was never under such a law...
Everybody at some point in time is under the condemnation of the law for not keeping it. Prior to having faith in Christ there is only one law from God by which all are condemned. Condemned for not being uncircumcised. Condemned for not entering into Sabbath rest, etc.

Romans 3:19
19 ...whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.

See, the whole world is who is under the condemnation of the law. That's you, that's me, that's everybody before we have faith in Christ. The whole world is under the condemnation of the law, because the whole world does not obey the law—the one and only law by which mankind is judged.

Why do caterpillars turn into butterflies?
