As I don't get it. I've been told that I talk too much or a lot sometimes and I'm just a social bug. It's not like I don't listen to what other people are saying and if I accidentally interrupt somebody I apologize. :/

This is probably a bit off topic..but somewhat related.

I have a daughter who, in her teens, could talk 90 to nothing for hours. She would come to my room and just talk, talk, talk. And for me, lots of words (especially back then) could be very triggering .....overwhelming. But because I love my daughter, I kept that under wraps and just listened and interacted and cherished that my baby wanted to spend time with her mom.

All that to say ...there are many reasons why a lot of talking can be a negative for different people.

Verbal diarrhoea and foolishness are hard to countenance. Any person with insight holds their tongue or keeps away and if they are courageous will say something.

Thank you for having a polite response, because I wasn't asking for rudeness when I started this topic but it appears my other two responders could have worded their responses much nicer.

Out of interest, I stay away from church because the people are nice. They are so nice they won't engage questions which they perceive challenge them. Everyone is friendly and smiley yet why do I get the feeling that there is no realness? The sermons are nice but no interest is shown in speaking about them afterward.

'Nice' for me has become painful....it has become the sweet nauseating plaster worn without repentance.

You're welcome. Another thing I didn't mention was that I was dealing with so much at that time that lots of talking was overstimulation on my senses....overload. After she would be done talking and go back to her room, I'd literally need time to decompensate...in other words, fall apart. She never knew and still doesn't to this day. I love my babies. Small price to pay. But maybe this could help you see what others may deal with upon being bombarded with lots of words.

It should annoy everyone. There is a time to talk. Then there is a time to listen. And then there is a time to simply shut up.

If a person talks non-stop, it means that they are having to deal with an internal issue. So the listener should probably slow them down, and ask them what is really bothering them. Hopefully a solution can be found.

Well I don't talk non-stop, so that probably doesn't count as verbal diarrhea,.. but it's still sort of rude to say about somebody. Some people just like to talk. Big whoop!

Yes, I agree there could have been greater care in responding to a polite sincere OP.

However, maybe you can see what did appear as what some admit is the real them.

When politeness is not that, believe them.

And in answer to your question, that has happened to me.
In most cases it was because those who thought Italked too much in their opinion weren't actually listening to what anyone else had to say. Rather, they were just waiting for their turn to speak.
Makes for a very disjointed "conversation".

Yeah, it was just an honest question, I didn't mean to touch a nerve or anything with it. :(

Well, I also wouldn't call my daughter's much talking "verbal diarrhea" either. She had a need to spend time with mom and I was grateful she wanted to talk. (She also has the best sense of humor. lol) She has outgrown that now, as she is 21 yrs old. She hasn't outgrown her joyful sense of humor though. :)

Sorry if that was a bit off topic.

I would agree that this is the case with some, but not with all. Some may be just chatty teenage girls. And then some people are just great conversationalists. Also, teachers tend to talk well and use a lot of words.

Honestly I don't think it that it would bother me if somebody really liked to talk. If somebody just talked and talked and didn't have a clue what they were talking about or saying stupid things,... that would probably bother me.

Lotsa words indicate foolishness and incessant talking evidence of closed ears.

Again, I agree in part. I have seen this be the case. I like a good conversation. So it depends on if both parties get a chance to be heard.
