Well, it's just about to be 2011 for all of us and many of us are already there!

My wife came up with a great idea last night. Our major mutual resolution is to grow our relationship with Christ. We both agreed that one of the best ways to do this is to read the letter written to us, the Bible. We are going to read through and study the Bible in a year (this year, 2011). We'd like to devote a forum to study and just talk about it in a non-denominational way where we could all learn. Would anyone be interested in doing this with us?

Otherwise, have a very safe and Happy New Year! May God bless, but most importantly may you grow closer to the One who loves you so deeply. If you have not gotten around to it, get around to it now!

Would that study be in a portion of this forum (CB) or would you set up another forum? What will the ground rules be, if any?

It would be a sub-forum here of course; mostly I'd limit posting to folks who wanted to participate while everyone could read whatever we talk about. I don't want to say that we take a relaxed approach to the Bible at any time, but the study format will be more relaxed in that I won't try to get too specific. This is the first time I've done something like this, so it would be a maiden voyage of sorts.

Will this study be a beginners level interaction or will you try to go deeper than that?

Hi, thanks for the invite email, and yes, it sounds good to me also :)

So are we to wait for a topic, or is someone to kick right in with one? If so, if I could make a request for a study for future? I've really enjoy a study proving through scripture the diety of Jesus Christ. I sometimes bump into Christians that are passionate to prove that Jesus is indeed the Son of God, but isn't God. How they come to this staggers me, but my responses could be stronger to be honest. So I just feel that having a study debate on this subject would give some needed insight not already realized.

Thanks

Mark has a good idea. If we were to pick a topic - say the deity of Jesus Christ - then we could have a bible study focused on just that one topic. This way we could address different situations that we have all encountered in our lives (as Mark has with the deity issue) and have a study from the Scriptures pertaining to each one. Of course this would require someone to organize the study based on the topic.

Hi everyone,

I haven't been involved much on the forum, sorry, but I have been reading the mass emails that are sent out and it let me to this. I guess you can count me in ^_^

Hello to everybody that reads this :)

I'm very new here.
I'd even forgotten that I'd already registered.
I just received your "Happy New Year" mail out.
May I ask a question?
Exactly what do you believe?
Does WCF & RP mean anything do you?
And if it does?
What does it mean to you?

Yes, what you suggest sounds pretty good. Some direction would be good too. I don't know if Hammerstone has something already in mind, or if suggestions are what are being waited on. I think there are many areas Christians are attacked or confronted over by various groups and sects, so this way, we learn foundational important stuff together, while at the same time we become better prepared. We live in very difficult times of deceit, so studying to sharpen our knowledge swards seems smart.

Let us know Hammerstone what you have in mind.

I live in Manchester UK, so my responses might be a little slow because of time difference. That and the fact that I'm a little slow anyway LOL

Blessings,

Mark

Well, here are some very simplistic and basic ground rules:

1) It will be in a format where a special forum here on CB will be for the Bible Study. It will be only for that purpose and access will be locked down (in the way of posting) to only those who are taking part. Others are free to join, and we can decide if we want folks to read. I personally favor a more open-viewing format, but we can discuss it.

2) The study would hinge very much on the folks participating. It means that a lot of the bickering has to be put aside. I don't want to limit it to just the basics. I want to be able to talk about the topics we disagree on without one side or the other. It would be nice to have it where input could be given on this or that and that person would be able to say his/her piece and move on. In other words, I want the relationships developed to feel more like friends (who maybe disagree, but yet remain closer than just a couple members on a forum).

3) I'd like it not to be too hierarchical. If someone has done study or would like to ask about something, the floor is open.

4) The idea behind the study would be to go through the Bible and not just topic to topic. I haven't decided if we should do a linear read or perhaps pick a book at a time. That doesn't mean we can't branch off a bit when something comes up that drags our attention to other verses.

As far as suggestions, I am open to them!
