Sounds good. Just one question, and it's most likely me being thick, but how do I navigate here. I came in by the direct link. I've been to the home page and can't seem to find a way in to here where we are now?

Thanks

Mark

1) It will be in a format where a special forum here on CB will be for the Bible Study. It will be only for that purpose and access will be locked down (in the way of posting) to only those who are taking part. Others are free to join, and we can decide if we want folks to read. I personally favor a more open-viewing format, but we can discuss it.

The whole purpose of bible studies like this is for those who are already saved Christians to study and learn the Word of God. So having it open to just anyone would probably not be wise.

2) The study would hinge very much on the folks participating. It means that a lot of the bickering has to be put aside. I don't want to limit it to just the basics. I want to be able to talk about the topics we disagree on without one side or the other. It would be nice to have it where input could be given on this or that and that person would be able to say his/her piece and move on. In other words, I want the relationships developed to feel more like friends (who maybe disagree, but yet remain closer than just a couple members on a forum).

First, I would like to share this scripture...."Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement." (1 Corinthians 1:10)

As believers we should all be on the same page, especially when it comes to studying and learning God's Word. There shouldn't be any bickering. True fellowship is that which is guided and directed by the Spirit. It is when people allow their flesh to interfere that we end up with..."For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?" (1 Corinthians 3:3)

I always cringe whenever I see the "we can agree to disagree" type mentality. This is God's Word people. Are you Christians? Do you believe in Jesus Christ, God, the Holy Spirit, and His Word? Then let's all fellowship together and study and learn and behave as we know we should.

3) I'd like it not to be too hierarchical. If someone has done study or would like to ask about something, the floor is open.

That should go without saying.

4) The idea behind the study would be to go through the Bible and not just topic to topic. I haven't decided if we should do a linear read or perhaps pick a book at a time. That doesn't mean we can't branch off a bit when something comes up that drags our attention to other verses.

I believe that because it is God's Word you really can't read it as a "linear read-the-bible-in-a-year" type manner. I mean you could, but then it would just be a bunch of people reading a book. One person should be the head of the study. That person should pray and ask God what He wants the group to focus on. God knows each of us and what each of us needs from His Word and when. If we don't pray and ask God then there's really no point.

Although I havent been active on this board in.. Years, I got the e-mail and well, 2011 is the year in which I would quite like to expand and develop my relationship with God. The email at... Oh look 2:25 AM hit me as a sign, I didnt even mean to sign onto my email or click on that particular one... So I guess I better start getting more involved! I take philosophy and bible studies as a subject at college and have been a non-Church going Christian (I pray and believe completely in God) since childhood. So I am not completely uneducated and wish purely to expand my relationship and talk to others about a common interest and belief :)

However this guys post
The whole purpose of bible studies like this is for those who are already saved Christians to study and learn the Word of God. So having it open to just anyone would probably not be wise.

I think is abit unfair, since it may take a bible study to actually get someone to believe and be saved, so I agree with this study being open.

So count me in, Ill be staying tuned!

All the best,
Charlie

I personally do not study the bible. I read or listen to the written Word quit a lot, but I do not study. I let the Holy Spirit/Jesus teach me the Word, as God wants me to learn it.

Having said that I wonder if you would let me bring to this thread what God has taught me about whatever part of the Word you are studying.

Also where are you going to start your studying? If it is from the beginning then it will be a long time before I would have anything to say.

I am currently reading my bible through this year too. Reading about Abraham...

metaphors...

Abraham - God the Father
Isaac - Jesus Christ
Moriah - Golgotha (where Christ was crucified)
Wood for the offering - Christ carried his own wood to his crucifixion.
Eliezer, Abrahams servant who I believe was sent to find Isaac a bride - The Holy Spirit.
Rebekah - The bride of Christ... The church.

Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. -Genesis 22:4

Emotional stuff! I believe that when Abraham looked afar off that he was the sacrifice God the Father was going to make for humanity, sacrificing his only son.

In my house
Well, it's just about to be 2011 for all of us and many of us are already there!

My wife came up with a great idea last night. Our major mutual resolution is to grow our relationship with Christ. We both agreed that one of the best ways to do this is to read the letter written to us, the Bible. We are going to read through and study the Bible in a year (this year, 2011). We'd like to devote a forum to study and just talk about it in a non-denominational way where we could all learn. Would anyone be interested in doing this with us?

Otherwise, have a very safe and Happy New Year! May God bless, but most importantly may you grow closer to the One who loves you so deeply. If you have not gotten around to it, get around to it now!

Thank you for the invitation. And I would be interested in this Bible study.

In Christ,
Selene

New to the board and very interested in this study. Has a topic been selected?
