This rich young ruler thought he had something to do with winning heaven for himself .. Just like so many today . Who reject Jesus perfect work ---- Perfect is the only work that God accepts for our heaven won. BECAUSE Jesus won it perfectly for us we should not ever doubt heaven is ours.

Mark 10:17-23 (New International Version 1984, ©1984)

The Rich Young Man
17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must """""" I """"""" do to inherit eternal life?”
18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.’[a]”

20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”

21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”

Lord Jesus, you are my righteousness, I am your sin. You have taken upon yourself what is mine and given me what is yours. You have become what you were not so that I might become what I was not.. Martin Luther

With out trust in Jesus ones only savior from sin ----------- it is impossable to love God .

if one has faith in Jesus that faith alone saves . yet that true faith is never alone it is always accompinied by works.

What must I do? The following verse tells us what Jesus had to do:

" I must work the works of him that sent me , while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work." John 9:4

Even as the Father sent Jesus, so also does Jesus send us:

"As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world." John 17:18

What are we then to do? Are we not to listen to the voice of Jesus so as to know our part, even as He listened to His Father's voice to know His part?

"A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.

And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.

And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.

And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear ." Luke 8:5-8

Jesus gave us the answer, but we must be able to hear Him! The scripture also gives us the answer on how to be able ot hear:

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Rom 10:17

And then when are talking to Him and are able to hear Him tell what our part is, what will the result be?

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." John 14:12

Good you noticed the "I"

I've actually sat through sermons where pastors put the burden on people of actually living up to what Jesus said not realizing that Jesus was trying to bring the guy revelation that he couldn't do it...

What must I do?
Walk in what He did...

I think He goes on to say, "What isn't possible with man is possible with God" or something right?

I was thinking today it's impossible to have a revelation of God's love unless we first have a revelation of how unprofitable we truly are to Him. It's when we realizes how unprofitable we are to God that we understand that we're loved as infants... even though the best we can bring is poop filled diapers, crying and whining, needing to be fed, needing to be dressed, needing to have our diapers changed, we still mean everything to Him...

With any good parent, even though their infant brings no profit but on the other hand burden and expenses... the parent loves the child more than anything... like an infant we are loved by our Father even though all we've brought is burden and expenses... and like an infant we are loved by our Father more than we can even comprehend fully...

Our Father is LOVE!!!
