After Matthew's abomination of desolation ("if those days hadn't been cut short no flesh would survive"), the end seems imminent. He cites Daniel, who could be interpreted (eschatological interpretation is difficult--I haven't heard a completely satisfying one--some make sense to this or that degree, but none answer all questions) as teaching a 45-day Great Tribulation (daily sacrifice is stopped at Day 0, abomination of desolation set up at Day 1290, those who wait are blessed at Day 1335))--but this does not seem to be Luke's message.
Matthew seems like a launching ramp, ready for takeoff... Luke has got this huge (we know it's 2,000 years wide) gap, Jewish diaspora, smack dab in the middle of the "abomination of desolation" and the return of Christ!

I haven't dealt with these issues in some years, but I think it should be interesting comparing/contrasting--I think I have to post that in the next reply because there isn't enough space here.

For simplification, Matthew will be in Black and Luke in Green.

Mt
1Jesus left the temple area and was going on His way [a]when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him. 2But He responded and said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down.”

Lk
5And while some were talking about the temple, that it was decorated with beautiful stones and vowed gifts, He said, 6As for these things which you are observing, the days will come when there will not be left one stone upon another, which will not be torn down.”

Mt
3And as He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"

Lk
7They asked Him questions, saying, “Teacher, when therefore will these things happen? And what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?”

Mt
4And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one [c]misleads you. 5For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the [d]Christ,’ and they will [e]mislead many people. 6And you will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pains.

Lk
8And He said, “See to it that you are not misled; for many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not go after them. 9And when you hear of wars and revolts, do not be alarmed; for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately.”

Mt
9“Then they will hand you over to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. 10And at that time many will [f]fall away, and they will [g]betray one another and hate one another.

Lk
12“But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, turning you over to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors on account of My name. 13It will lead to an opportunity for your testimony. 14So make up your minds not to prepare beforehand to defend yourselves; 15for I will provide you eloquence and wisdom which none of your adversaries will be able to oppose or refute. 16But you will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, other relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death, 17and you will be hated by all people because of My name. 18And yet not a hair of your head will perish.

Mt
11And many false prophets will rise up and mislead many people. 12And because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will become cold.

Lk
-------

Mt
13But the one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved.

Lk
19By your endurance you will gain your [p]lives.

Mt
14This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Lk
-------

Mt
15“Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place—let the reader understand—16then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 17Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get things out of his house. 18And whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.

Lk
20“But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near. 21Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are inside the city must leave, and those who are in the country must not enter the city; 22because these are days of punishment, so that all things which have been written will be fulfilled.

Mt
19But woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days!

Lk
23Woe to those women who are pregnant, and to those who are nursing babies in those days...

Mt
21For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will again. 22And if those days had not been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

Lk
...for there will be great distress upon the land, and wrath to this people...

Mt
???????

Lk

24and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

Mt
23Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘He is over here,’ do not believe him. 24For false christs and false prophets will arise and will provide great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. 25Behold, I have told you in advance. 26So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. 27For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

Lk
-------

Mt
29“But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Lk
25“There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26people fainting from fear and the expectation of the things that are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Mt
30And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory.

Lk
27And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

There wasn't room to mark the passages Mt 24 / Lk 21--had to leave it Mt / Lk.

The ------- just means "I didn't see a comparable statement in Luke".
The bolded pairs in the middle are the 2,000 year "hole".
