Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Matthew 10:38

My point in post #19 (which I didn't articulate too well) was that Muslims make sport of our disunity, which is caused by our selfish (sinful) nature. They view this as further proof that their religion is the superior religion. Which does not further the cause of Christ, whom you and I know is true.
Something is not adding up here. The problem, I believe, is in what we believe. That is, if we are truly desiring to believe the truth.
The self-life is sinful because self is on the throne of one's life. Thus make a god out of self. "You shall have no other gods before me."
I guess it all depends upon who you want to serve. I believe there is a throne in one's heart. Who sits on it is our choice. The Christian life is not easy.
"....there is a throne in one's heart. Who sits on it is our choice."
- Good point.

I remember reading a booklet..many years ago.
- It was about..that issue ( throne )

"Many people wonder why they do not have victory over their wounded pride; their touchiness, their greediness, their loneliness, their failure to experience the promised rivers of living waters. The secret is not far away. They secretly and habitually practice shrine worship - the shrine of self.
In the outward cross they glory, but inwardly they worship another god, and stretch out their hands to serve a pitied, petted and pampered self life. Until Christ works out in them an inner crucification which will cut them off from a self-infatuation and will unite them with God in a deep union of love, a thousand heavens could not give them peace." - from Born Crucified.

After being accused of supporting an apartheid state, I said to my Muslim friend, "We can do better." He said, "Yes, we can." Did you hear the Saudi prince who wants to do away with most of the hadiths? Most Muslims are sick and tired of how things are.
Our Canadian government just arbitrarily extended their pandemic powers until the end of the year. Good! The revival hasn't started...yet! God is in control! Hallelujah! :)
There I go pulling on the end of a thread again.

Till righteousness is sought after for its own sake, mankind will not know what makes for peace…

I can relate to this.

Every day I have a choice: am I going to be led by the Spirit or just do my own thing?

Self life, why is the self life sinful?

Own will or that which is called the self life, is sinful, because, it by it’s very nature, is a striving after that high and exalted state it had before the fall…. Because this life that was brought forth by the fall is of a lower nature than the life that perished, therefore does this life drive the will to use everything it can of this world to once again achieve, to the best of it’s ability, a higher and a more exalted state than it finds itself in this world… It seeks the beautiful things, the grandiose things, the best of this, the best of that… When it finds it can’t have, it will use all at it’s disposal to achieve…

This is why, in this life’s desire, when something that is thought to satisfy is achieved, it is discovered it does not satisfy, than something else is looked to for satisfaction, and the same thing happens again, no satisfaction is found… But still again it searches for that thing that will satisfy by any and all means… Therefore does the nature of this life, lie, steal, cheat, look to take advantage of whomever and whatever it can, to get what it knows not what… For it must again seek to elevate itself to the highest state it can in all things, for it knows not, that only by the doing of righteousness can this state be found…

This is own will or the life of self, this is the life that needs to be ended… Therefore because this is necessary to redeem man, Christ came to bring this nature to death, for this is what was necessary for the salvation of man, the death of this nature… For this is what Christ accomplished on the cross with His death, He tasted death for every man, meaning, that He took us to death with Him, making His death ours…

It is the willingness to give up the life of this world by the only means available, and that is faith… For faith is that which can look away from the life of this world, for that is that which is required to come out from under the dominion of this life… The will and desire of the heart wanting to be free from this life and therefore making a conscious choice to choose to accept, by faith, that which is offered by another, that is, the salvation that is offered from this life, by being joined by faith in having both died and having been resurrected when the One that was sent, died and was resurrected…

The simplicity of the Gospel of Christ is just that, simple… But will only be simple to the heart that sees it’s need to be freed from the nature of this world with all it’s longings and desires to elevate itself… Than the dividing line will be known, Christ or self, this line will be known by experience…

For this new creation promised in Christ Jesus starts with the new birth and will grow according to the will, desire and faith of each and every life that would have it, but can only grow to the degree the old life is done away with…

Be blessed in the life that would have it..

Thank you for writing this. The flesh tries to rear its ugly head all the time. But to grow spiritually, we have to get away from the flesh through faith.

I hope the new nature takes hold in me day by day.

Hi, if it would be ok, faith, trusting God is not only the glue, but the food that causes the new creation to grow in one..

Keep that faith, and keep asking, seeking, knocking and God Himself will teach you all you, need and want to know, and even more..

Be blessed in your relationship with Him.
