Often times when the Bible uses the words "forever" or "ever" it is a figure of speech meaning "long time". I see these as no exception.
The problem with literalists is simply... The Bible starts contradicting itself.

You need to realize just as when you and I, in our language today, use terms like "forever"... We rarely mean it literally. There's no exception to back when the Bible was wrote.

If "for ever" to God doesn't mean "for ever," then we're in a bit of a pickle......

Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

And He told us we are not under THE LAW. We have the New Covenant.

Galatians 3:24-25 (NKJV)
[sup]24 [/sup]Therefore THE LAW WAS OUR TUTOR to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. [sup]25 [/sup]But after faith has come, WE ARE NO LONGER UNDER A TUTOR.

Here go again. Christians are not under THE LAW. Are you under THE LAW or grace?

John 1:17 (NKJV)
[sup]17 [/sup]For THE LAW was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

For the children of Israel.

Exodus 31:16-17 (NKJV)
[sup]16 [/sup]Therefore THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. [sup]17 [/sup]It is a sign between Me and THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL forever;

Are you under THE LAW? If so you need to read this:

Galatians 3:10 (NKJV)
[sup]10 [/sup]For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse;

Are you circumcised to obey God?

Galatians 5:2 (NKJV)
[sup]2 [/sup]Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. (NOT SAVED)

It is important for us to understand "the children of Israel." It is also important to understand that when we have "put on Christ," then we LIVE THE LAW. If He lives in us then as the law is fulfilled in Him...it is in us.

Galatians 3:24-27 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Leviticus 26:3-4 If ye walk in My statutes, and keep My commandments, and do them; Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

IF we walk in them and IF we keep them and IF we do them then....He showers us with rain. Do you understand what the "rain" is? Please heed what Christ Himself said to US on this subject and don't listen to what men believe Paul meant for....they are wrong.

Matthew 5:18-20 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Depends on context, of course.
But literalists will always have contradiction problems. You'll note that disasters God said there will never be one like it again, he made the same statement about MANY disasters, even the one some people think is future.

Matthew 24:21
For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.

Ezekiel 5:9
And because of all your abominations I will do with you what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again.

Exodus 11:6
There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again.

Joel 2:2
Like blackness there is spread upon the mountains a great and powerful people; their like has never been before, nor will be again after them through the years of all generations.
[font="Georgia][size=2]
[/size][/font]
[font="Arial"]What about kings? Similar statements were made about two different kings. And what about Jesus, are either of these kings greater than he?[/font]
2 Kings 18:5

[font="Georgia][size="3"]He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him.[/size][/font]
[font="Georgia][size="3"]
[/size][/font]
2 Chronicles 1:12
I will also give you riches, possessions, and honor, such as none of the kings had who were before you, and none after you shall have the like.

First.....let's take note of this statement made by tex......

"......it's quite clear there will be no more sin in the New Earth."

Now let's reason to see if there will be sin during Christ 1000 year rule.

Let us begin by reading God's definition of sin.

Sin = Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Now let's read about the second coming of Christ and find if man will indeed sin, or break God's laws AFTER His return and AFTER He has set up HIs kingdom........

Zech14
[12] And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their
flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

So God's word tells us what will happen to those that try to go against Him and His saints when He returns. Now do you think this event will be just a local event? Don't you think something like this will be known the world over? After all, we will not be instantly transported back to the stone age. In other words will will still have TV's, computers and the like. This will be an event broadcast over the entire world. So EVERYBODY will know!

Now let's read what happens AFTER the Lord has come and punished those that TRIED to go against HIm and His saints.

Zech 14
[16] And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

So now we can reason this is well after Christ first returned, "...from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts...". For Christ kingdom has been established here on earth. He is ruling with HIs saints and KIng David is ruling over the WOHLE house of Isreal.

Now you would think, after seeing what happened when Jesus first returned, how those that went up against Him had their flesh melt away as they stood and their eyes and tongues consumed, ALL would know that He is Lord and He means business, right? But let's read what God's word says next.... Let's read the fate of those that SIN and break God's laws.....

[17] And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
[19] This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

Now let me ask you..... If, as tex suggest, there is to be absolutly NO sin here on earth during Christ rule, why must He warn them of what will happen if they do not obey His laws?

Do you think man is going to just give up and conform to God's will in an instant?

That is why Christ rule is to be so long. He is going to have to reteach man HIs laws and ways and it is NOT going to happen overnight!

This is why God's says, "There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old;", for the man that dies at 100 years old will be considered an infant. And why will God increase the lifespan of man?

Well....we have had about 6000 years to get this thing right on our own and look at what we have today?

It's going to take Christ a looooooong time (1000yrs to be exact) to show man the error of his ways and get him back on the right track.

Will there be sin here on earth during Christ 1000 year rule, You would think not, but sadly yes! You will still have man NOT wanting to obey God. Man bucks at God's laws now and it will be the same during Christ 1000 year rule.

But I'm thinking that resentful nature will cut off sharply after the first punishment or two!

Now the real sad part is what comes AFTER a 1000 years of near perfection and being taught by Christ and His saints......

"And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth,"

Man will yet be deceived by Satan!!!!!

Matthew 24:21

There hasn't yet been tribulation like there will be....and soon now. Understand what the tribulation is...great deception! Why, because the fake will be here pretending to be Christ.

Ezekiel 5:9
And because of all your abominations I will do with you what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again.

And has He? Read that chapter and consider the Holocaust. Think about the literal city of Jerusalem today.

Exodus 11:6
There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again.

As bad as things currently are in Egypt....the firstborn of all families are not dying. No, "nor ever will be again."

Joel 2:2 Like blackness there is spread upon the mountains a great and powerful people; their like has never been before, nor will be again after them through the years of all generations.

This is future...and not so far away!

What about kings? Similar statements were made about two different kings. And what about Jesus, are either of these kings greater than he?

2 Kings 18:5 He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him.

2 Chronicles 1:12 I will also give you riches, possessions, and honor, such as none of the kings had who were before you, and none after you shall have the like.[/font]

King Hezekiah, written of in 2 Kings 18:5, was like no others...before or after...because He so "trusted in the Lord" and followed the Lord's ways. The other king you mention was king Solomon. What was written of him?

2 Chronicles 1:12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

None before or none after Solomon would ever have his wisdom, knowledge, riches and wealth. But, Solomon was not as Hezekiah in following the ways of the Lord.

[size="3"]Dear readers....each and every scripture quoted above is infact just as God said. None of those events were EVER repeated again, nor were the promises made to the indivduals EVER duplicated with someone else! And for those events that have not happened, once they are finished, they too will never happen again. God's word is true!

God's word NEVER contradicts! And I would be cautious of someone that says it does!

The same person that gave you the above scriptures also said this......

You need to realize just as when you and I, in our language today, use terms like "forever"... We rarely mean it literally. There's no exception to back when the Bible was wrote.

Readers.....the bible was not written by the minds of man. The bible is the inspired word of GOD!

And if God said FOREVER, who, what man can question it? Well.........I guess tex can!

Now I ask you......is that the slippery slope you want to take?

It is important for us to understand "the children of Israel." It is also important to understand that when we have "put on Christ," then we LIVE THE LAW. If He lives in us then as the law is fulfilled in Him...it is in us.
Are you saying we must obey all THE LAW? Executions? Animal sacrifices? Circumcision?

THE LAW was fulfilled, by Jesus. It was nailed to the cross. Christians have the New Covenant.

Whirlwind, and as always Eccl, you miss the point.

There is said, about many separate events, that there was, and will never be, an event to rival it. This is a contradiction if taken literally.

Like it or not, if there is never to be a great cry like that of Egypt, then the Tribulation will not be like it. But the Tribulation says the same thing! These contradict.

Unless they are simply figurative for: "This is a terrible event".

And what was the great cry that has NEVER happened in the land of Egypt again? Let's read it......

"And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts."

This is the great cry......NOT the tribulation period!

You are right about one thing. The great Tribulation period will be nothing like what happened in Egypt.......it will be far worse!

No, that's the event.
The great cry is exactly as the words said it is, it's the cry of distress, the outcry of God's people. The CRY will not be reviled.
It does not say the EVENT, but the CRY.

Previously I mentioned commandments, ordinances, laws and statutues. Many were a shadow leading us to Christ. They were fulfilled in Him. Blood sacrifice was one of those. As for executions....yes we should execute proven murderers and rapists. What of adultery?

Leviticus 20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death
.

Because Jesus died for our sins, if one repents and goes "and sins no more," then their sins are forgiven. However, if no repentance and change of lifestyle then...they are put to death...spiritual death.

Yeah, WE ARE NO LONGER UNDER A SCHOOLMASTER (THE LAW).

Good, for if that is true then you have put on Christ. The law lives in you.

You're in the wrong Covenant. That was for the Nation of Israel. Not Christians.

No, He said, "the children of Israel" and we, as Christians are the house of Israel. He was sent to us....He found us and we carry His name.

Matthew 15:24 But He answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

THE LAW was fulfilled, by Jesus. It was nailed to the cross. Christians have the New Covenant.

The law and commandments were nailed to the cross with Him? No, you are mistaken.....

Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross;

You know what....... I never asked just how old you are tex?

Are you really wanting us to believe that you cannot see that after this happened......

"And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts."

....that you cannot see how this followed?

"And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more."

You must be younger than 10yrs because even my son understands that after God killed ALL of the first born, including animals, that the people of Egypt would be crying out loud.

Why don't you go and ask your parents to explain this to you then come back!

It does not say the EVENT, but the CRY.

Really tex? Really?

You are not following THE LAW. They were executed.

Yes and then our Saviour came and died for our sins. Did His sacrifice cause the laws to go away or should we understand them spiritually? I repeat, if one sins and continues to sin without repentance then they are "put to death." Who is Death they are put to? What is the death they experience? Please open your spiritual eyes and see what is written:

Romans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
Satan is the Death we are "put to," should we be habitual sinners. The death we experience is that of our souls....spiritually dead souls.

THE LAW was only for the Nation of Israel, not me. I have the New Covenant that Jesus paid for with His Blood.

Okay...then go ahead and break all the commandments. Go ahead and believe He was crucified so you could continue sinning. I assure you, anyone doing that are of the walking dead. They have not crucified themself allowing Him to walk in them, dwell in them. Instead they are "put to death."

He was sent to the Nation of Israel. You are not the Nation of Israel. Unless you are a Jew in the Nation of Israel.

Is it written that He was sent to the "nation of Israel?" No. Rather it is to the "lost sheep of the house of Israel." There are already threads with information on the two houses. It would be good for all to study them. It's always good to know who we are in the grand scheme of things. :)

Then what is "the handwriting of ordinances"? It was THE LAW of Moses. It is nailed to the cross.

There are laws, statutes and ordinances. Was the law nailed to the cross or was "the handwriting of ordinances?"

Did you forget about circumcision?

I did. Sorry. I'll answer now....

Romans 2:25-29 For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law? For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

If one is literally circumcised AND keeps the law....he profits. If one is literally circumcised AND breaks the law then he is "put to death." Literal circumcision doesn't save him. Paul wrote that those that shall judge, whether they are or are not literally circumcised, are those that FULFIL THE LAW...they shall judge those that "dost transgress the law." Why, because circumcision is now, of our hearts, of our spirits.
Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

Colossians 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Yes I am aware that there are MANY trying to usurp the Nation of Israel's place and standing with God. However God raised the Nation of Israel from the dead to warn us that we are living in the very last days. The church is not Israel.
There are laws, statutes and ordinances.
Such as? Galatians is about THE LAW of Moses. Christians are not under THE LAW.

Colossians 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Are you circumcised to obey THE LAW of Moses? If so you need to read the following:

Galatians 5:2 (NKJV)
[sup]2 [/sup]Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, CHRIST WILL PROFIT YOU NOTHING.

Since Christ is the ONLY way to salvation then that's as bad as it gets, except for dying without Him. In Galatians Paul says that all who choose to be under THE LAW are BEWITCHED and UNDER THE CURSE! Not good.

You fail to see what I have written. I won't argue this...it is futile. Believe as you wish but remember....

Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

You can't 'argue' it because Judaizers/Galatians are clearly damned by the Book of Galatians.

Galatians 5:2 (NKJV)
[sup]2 [/sup]Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing.

You mistake "can't" for "won't." I repeat...please see what is written....

Whirlwind you seem to be ignorant of the difference between new commandments of Christ and the old law?
