I think the challenge of doctrine is to ensure that a spiritual anointing rests on those who follow it. In my case, in which I would profess to be Pentecostal Holiness, it is discouraging to see so much variety spiritually on through the generations.

Doctrine is the teaching or the belief. Its what your Church (or you) teaches and believes. Its pretty much the most important part of any religion and that includes Christianity.

Some may look to argue that point, but its hard to say that its wrong without a doctrine that says its wrong.... Thus, you have a doctrine.

"Love! Love is more important than doctrine!" Well if you believe that, then you have a doctrine.

"Belief in Jesus is more important than doctrine!" Well, if you believe that, 1. Jesus had a doctrine, and 2. Why? Because he died for our sins and resurrected? Well, that's what all Christians are taught and believe, so... Its a doctrine.

I suppose IF ANYTHING could be more important than doctrine it would be truth... Because without it, a doctrine is spiritually worthless. Then again, when you are taught truth, comprehend it and accept it, it becomes doctrine, and good doctrine at that.

Another possible thing more important is adhering to it. If you have proper doctrine but don't follow it, it doesn't help you. But of course, you have to have it before you follow it.

So doctrine is not the end all, but it is the beginning with the exception of truth. The ending is to abide in the truth that becomes your doctrine.

And doctrine needs to be flexible so that as we learn and grow by following the lead of the Holy Spirit, our 'doctrine' changes anywhere according to God that it needs to be changed!
Give God the glory!
