When you only listen to half of God's word, it's difficult to understand many things. I've shown as much as I can show, I'll let the Word do the rest of the teaching for those that will listen.
No hard feelings I hope. Jesus loved those who murdered Him. And we can also love our enemies who hate us.

Luke 6:27-28 (NASB)
[sup]27 [/sup]"But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, [sup]28 [/sup]bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

Life isn't this dream world you live in, if you applied your philosophy to this situation, you would be the enemy or the enslaved or dead.

Nehemiah, a Jew, and cupbearer of Artaxerxes, heard of the ruined condition of the walls of Jerusalem, and in his grief be uttered an earnest prayer to Yahweh. He obtained leave to go to Jerusalem to restore the walls. At a later point he mentions incidentally that he was given the status of governor of Judah. On his arrival he inspected the walls by night, and then persuaded tho Jews to begin the work, in spite of the opposition of Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah "the slave" the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, who were probably members of the mixed "Samaritan" community in the North, who had previously been refused participation in the building of the Temple (Ezr. 4i-5), and had already successfully hindered the building of the city walls (Ezr. 47-23). These enemies exhausted every effort to hinder the work. After mockery, which hurt no one (Neh. 4i-6), they gathered an army for attack; but Nehemiah, hearing of it, provided all the builders with weapons. Half stood ready to fight, while the other half worked rapidly. Force having failed, the enemy turned to fraud. Four times they invited Nehemiah to a conference, hoping to kill him. On the fifth occasion Sanballat suggested that the building of the wall would be interpreted by the Persian king as an attempt at rebellion, in order to make Nehemiah king. But Nehamiah saw through the plot, and boldly refused to have anything to do with them. Yet another attempt by a certain

Nehemiah 6:10

Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.

Shemaiah, who invited Nehemiah to hide in the Temple, since assassins were intending to attack him, also failed. The walls were completed in fifty-two days, to the disappointment of the enemy, who had many allies in Jerusalem. After this preliminary work Nehemiah took the lead in shaping the religious life and constitution of the community. He found that many of the wealthy Jews had taken poor Jews into slavery for debt. He persuaded them to release them, and declared that during the twelve years of his governorship he had better take care not to make his maintenance a burden on the people, as former governors had done. During these years public spirit had been so far moulded that the people bound themselves by a solemn covenant, sealed by their princes, Levites, and priests, with Nehemiah's name at the head. After a general oath to keep God's commandments they bound themselves to contract no foreign marriages, to refuse traffic on the Sabbath, to observe the sacred seventh year as commanded in the Law, to pay the poll-tax of one third of a shekel for the Temple, and regular firstfruits, firstlings, and tithes.

Nehemiah returned to Artaxerxes when his period of governorship had expired, and disloyal Jews at once took advantage of his absence. The worst offender was Eliashib the priest, who had entered into collusion with Tobiah and given him a chamber in the Temple court. And Eliashib's grandson (named Manasseh, if we can partially follow a confused notice in Josephus) had married Sanballat's daughter. Nehemiah also found that the Levites had not been paid their dues, and had consequently deserted the Temple and gone into the country; the Sabbath was profaned by labour and traffic; and Jews were again marrying foreign women, and their children could not speak the Jewish language correctly. Nehemiah, who was evidently possessed of authority, dealt with these abuses in a very stern and forcible manner. Subsequent history shows that the community for the most part adopted this policy of exclusiveness. Union with the Samaritans became increasingly impossible, and at a later date (Josephus, Ant. XL viii. 4, places it as late as the time of Alexander) the establishment of the Samaritan temple on Mt. Gerizim made the schism final.

Little is known of Judaean history in the last century of the Persian Empire. But it must have been a time of much suffering. In the long conflict with Egypt, Persian armies must frequently have overrun Judea, and Artaxerxes III Ochus fought four battles in Syria itself. The Jews seem to have sided with Egypt, since he is said to have transported some of them to Hyrcania and Babylonia. His notorious general, Bagoas, oppressed them with taxes, and roused their fury by entering the Temple. He killed Ochus, and placed Darius III Codomannus on the throne, a weak king who was easily overcome by the great conqueror Alexander.

Your piety may disguise this.

If Nehemiah didn't contend, the Temple would have never been built, and the messianic prophecies would have never come to pass.

There is stuff there, you just don't wanna see it. You wanna twist it. Don't Need No Shemaiah's. God always gives us the right to defend ourselves, even sinners.

In the next 40 years mankind & OUR DESCENDANTS will have to produce as much food as we have had to produce in the last 8,000 years. Let alone maiintain it !?!

Revelation 6:6-9 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. {unto them: or, to him} And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

A man's life will be worth less than a loaf of bread. Prove to me right now -> that not one of these souls under the altar didn't try to defend himself. I doubt you can.

Revelation 11:5

And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

All irrelevant. Jesus commands are clear.

Irrevelant 2 witnesses will break command, which makes you irrelevant.

But, woe unto you, when all men shall BLAB well at you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do well to them which hate you, (Or Martyr yourself if they try to kill you?)
Pray to God on behalf of them that curse [doom] you, and pray on behalf of them which despitefully use you.
And unto him that smiteth thee on the one jaw offer the other also; and him that taketh away thy mantle forbid not to take thy tunic also.
Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
And according as ye desire that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
And if ye love them which love you, what kind of thank [grace] have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what kind of thank [grace] have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

Mark 12:17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

It's irrelevant because Jesus' commands are to you and me.

"Do not resist the evil person". "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you".

i was going to respond to duckybill but in reading his response to me and others I am conviced he doesn't grasp scripture or how it is to be read and used. clearly, some of the posters (about 2) lack the wisdom and understanding needed to deal with scripture. according to their logic, they would be in disobedience if they read the followiong two passages right after the other: 'Judas hung himself' and 'go and do thou likewise'; simply because they did not commit suicide after reading those passages.

i am not going to conitnue to discuss with those two particular posters as they lack the willingness to learn the truth.

Even if you kill all your enemies you will still have troubles. Satan is the real enemy and you can't kill him. You must overcome him. You are worried about the wrong enemy. Satan is our enemy.

Revelation 12:11 (NASB)
[sup]11 [/sup]"And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.

When they're picked and chosen out of context, yes.

Losing one's life for Christ means a whole lot more than simply looking for the nearest murderer, or standing by as your family is wiped out. :rolleyes:

In fact, let's go to God's Word - all of it.

[bible=Exodus 22:2-3]
If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him, but if the sun has risen on him, there shall be bloodguilt for him. He shall surely pay. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.[/bible]
[/quoteYes it is always the other guy that picks and chooses scripture.

You used a Old Testament verse to try and prove your point. But forgot to bring out that Jesus came to complete the Old Testament.

Jesus said: (Matthew 5:17) “Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them. I tell you solemnly, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, shall disappear from the Law until its purpose is achieved.”

Then Jesus said: (Matthew 5:39) “You have learnt how it was said: ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.’ But I say this to you: offer the wicked man no resistance.”

(Matthew 5:43-44) “You have learnt how it was said, you must love your neighbor and hate your enemy, but I say this to you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

You should notice that Jesus said: “You have learnt how it was said: ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.’ But I say this to you” Notice how he is telling us how it used to be?

Now again I ask you who taught you about God? Why do you believe you know God, and how he wants us to live?

like i said before, you need to get some pastoral counselling for your eisegesis is making you look very foolish. along with your bad assumptions.

the cherry picking of verses doesn't help your cause especially when you cannot apply them in context or correctly. if you want the truth of this issue here is what you do:
#1. you look at ALL verses that even remotely touch upon this issue;
#2. be honest with yourself and do not omit those which do not tell you what you want to hear;
#3. make a personal decision BUT keep in mind your personal decision does not alter what scripture says nor has any binding effect upon other believers. it is YOUR choice how you will live your life;
#4. your personal choice does NOT necessarily equate with the truth of scripture.
#5. remember 1 cor. 13 when dealing with those who disagree with you.

The part I like? It's not a matter of 'liking' it. It's God's command for Christians.

Nobody here has given any NT justification for killing anyone, because it doesn't exist.

Honestly it sounds like many of you don't believe God will help you. The promises for His help are many.

Then here's something our Lord Jesus said that needs to be considered. And note He said this to His disciples just before the time of His being delivered up to be crucified...

Luke 22:35-38
35 And He said unto them, "When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing?" And they said, "Nothing."
36 Then said He unto them, "But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in Me, 'And he was reckoned among the transgressors': for the things concerning Me have an end.
38 And they said, "Lord, behold, here are two swords." And He said unto them, "It is enough."
(KJV)

This reveals why we need to understand all of God's Word as a whole. In Luke 6 our Lord Jesus said to love our enemies. So why would He tell His disciples later in Luke 22 to go buy a sword?

It's pretty obvious. He was talking about loving our enemies that will listen, not the ones that all they want to do is kill us.

The 1960's ex-KGB Soviet defector to the U.S. named Golitsyn remarked how religious summits in Moscow invite Christian leaders from the West in order to get them to go back to western Churches and preach pacifist propaganda (see New Lies For Old).

Our Lord Jesus telling His disciples to go buy a sword puts His teaching of turning the other cheek in its proper perspective.

If someone gets irrate at you for preaching The Gospel, offer your other cheek to that one also. But if Christ's enemies try to kill you, or destroy your family, community or nation, you have the God-given right to protect yourselves from those enemies. If a Christian wants to sacrifice themselves like our Lord Jesus on the cross, literally allowing His enemies to kill you, then that's a personal matter between you and The Lord. But He did not require that we let His enemies do that to us, especially as a nation.

John 18:36
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if My kingdom were of this world, then would My servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is My kingdom not from hence.
(KJV)

Christ didn't require His disciples to fight then because it was not yet time, for He had to be delivered up as the Perfect Sacrifice. But a time is coming in our near future at Armageddon when His servants will fight and our Lord Jesus will not be meek as a lamb at His second coming like He was at His first coming.

A little bit more about that future fight at Jerusalem when Satan's armies surround it in the last days...

Listen up Judah...

Zech 10:1-6
1 Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.
2 For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.
3 Mine anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats: for the LORD of hosts hath visited his flock the house of Judah, and hath made them as His goodly horse in the battle.
4 Out of him came forth the corner, out of him the nail, out of him the battle bow, out of him every oppressor together.
5 And they shall be as mighty men, which tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle: and they shall fight, because the LORD is with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.
6 And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them again to place them; for I have mercy upon them: and they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I am the LORD their God, and will hear them.
(KJV)

See James 5:7 about the latter rain, linked with the time of Christ's second coming. It's going to be a surprise to the armies that will surround Jerusalem in the last days when God raises up the house of Judah there to FIGHT against those armies. (So keep it up, you nations joining together that seek to destroy God's servants of Judah out of Jerusalem and surround her with armies. Your day of reckoning from God is coming.)

Zech 12:1-9
1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
4 In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.
5 And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, "The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God."
6 In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.
7 The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah.

(For you deeper Bible students, notice this mention of "the house of David" existing at that time of the end. God is going to save Judah in Jerusalem first, so that the glory of the house of David won't magnify itself above them. Remember the house of David with a king of Judah in Jerusalem ended in Jeremiah's days. For those of you that know where God moved it to, this is a confirmation.)

8 In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.
9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
(KJV)

I already answered that but I'll repeat. You even answered it yourself, "
For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in Me, 'And he was reckoned among the transgressors". It was to fulfill the prophecy.

Isaiah 53:12 (NASB)
[sup]12 [/sup]Because He poured out Himself to death, And was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors.
It's pretty obvious. He was talking about loving our enemies that will listen, not the ones that all they want to do is kill us.

How is it obvious? Scripture please.

Do you pray this prayer daily?

Matthew 6:13 (NASB)
[sup]13 [/sup]'And do not lead us into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
John 18:36
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if My kingdom were of this world, then would My servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is My kingdom not from hence.

Jesus didn't require them to fight period, unless you mean this:

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 (NASB)
[sup]
3 [/sup]For though we walk in the flesh, WE DO NOT WAR ACCORDING TO THE FLESH, [sup]4 [/sup]for the weapons of our warfare are NOT OF THE FLESH, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.

You can search til eternity but you won't find any excuse for Christians to kill anyone for any reason. There are none.

this poster still ignores the verse found in 1 cor. 13 that states that love PROTECTS. 'killing' and 'protecting' are two vastly different concepts and the quoted poster has a lot of confusion about both, simply because he stops at the definition that suits him and does not listen to any other. he is also assuming way too much. no one is looking for an excuse to 'kill' and for the christian this issue is important if they have been called BY GOD to serve in the law enforcement field or the military in NON-chaplain positions.

he also ignores God's grace because christians, whether on purpose or inadvertantly do kill and they need to know that God will forgive themif they make the mistake and take a life they should not. it should be said that 'protecting' does not mean one will kill in defending one's family and the quoted poster seems to place himself above God and Jesus, both of whom will protect their followers, by saying he will not protect his loved ones, which God has granted him and placed in his care.

that is disobedience right there for the quoted poster is abdicating his God given duties to follow a misguided idea. the quoted poster confuses a lot and does not understand the verses he is quoting because he refuses to do honest and proper exegetical bible study on them.

Do you pray this prayer daily?

Matthew 6:13 (NASB)
[sup]13 [/sup]'And do not lead us into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
he also ignores God's grace because christians, whether on purpose or inadvertantly do kill and they need to know that God will forgive themif they make the mistake and take a life they should not.
There ya go folks. He thinks we can kill people and still be Christians, even "on purpose".
it should be said that 'protecting' does not mean one will kill in defending one's family and the quoted poster seems to place himself above God and Jesus, both of whom will protect their followers, by saying he will not protect his loved ones, which God has granted him and placed in his care.
Back to the Scripture:

Matthew 5:39 (NASB)
[sup]39 [/sup]"But I say to you, do not resist an evil person;

Obedience to this command is required for salvation.
that is disobedience right there for the quoted poster is abdicating his God given duties to follow a misguided idea. the quoted poster confuses a lot and does not understand the verses he is quoting because he refuses to do honest and proper exegetical bible study on them.
My "duty" is to obey God, not to kill people.

Luke 6:27 (NASB)
[sup]27 [/sup]"But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, DO GOOD TO THOSE WHO HATE YOU,

a simply worthless response to my post and the continual quoted of the same out of context verse doesn't make his point true. a few comments:

Do you pray this prayer daily?

an out of context and off topic question, addressing nothing that was stated in the quote above it in that post. it makes the above quoted poster look like he thinks he is greater than God and gets to say what Christians can or cannot do inspite of what God says or where he calls people.

There ya go folks. He thinks we can kill people and still be Christians, even "on purpose".

a total distortion and misrepresentation of what was said and totally not a christian response.

Obedience to this command is required for salvation.

complete heresy and contradicts john 3:16.

My "duty" is to obey God, not to kill people.

completely off topic and pursues his personal belief and assumptions about what others write. he is to obey God but he is NOT to place his personal beliefs into scripture, that is NOT obeyong God but saying God got it wrong and places the quoted poster above God once again. obedience means one follow correctly the truth not cherry picking verses to support false ideas then repeating them over and over in vain repitition like the heathen do.

the quoted poster is 1. a very immature christian and needs lots of help; 2. a cultist who has no clue; 3. an atheist in disguise as a christian; 4. a person who just doesn't know anything.

Thankful 1

like i said before, you need to get some pastoral counselling for your eisegesis is making you look very foolish. along with your bad assumptions.

the cherry picking of verses doesn't help your cause especially when you cannot apply them in context or correctly. if you want the truth of this issue here is what you do:
#1. you look at ALL verses that even remotely touch upon this issue;
#2. be honest with yourself and do not omit those which do not tell you what you want to hear;
#3. make a personal decision BUT keep in mind your personal decision does not alter what scripture says nor has any binding effect upon other believers. it is YOUR choice how you will live your life;
#4. your personal choice does NOT necessarily equate with the truth of scripture.
#5. remember 1 cor. 13 when dealing with those who disagree with you.

What is so sad is that you believe all your studding is bringing you to the truth. Also you assume that others haven’t read all the verses pertaining to the subject. You call another person black because of your assumptions.

Now let me tell you how I know about what I post. I have read the bible over and over again, and I am almost seventy-seven years old. But that is not how I come to know God; I came to know God because Jesus has personally taught me for over thirty years.

Now how do you know what you think you know about God?
