I was kind of just feeling like Jesus wants me to turn the other cheek not so I can be a martyr but so I can have victory... my wife and I just went for a lil walk to the liquor store to grab a bottle of wine and we were talking about those people in your life that are so good at provoking you to anger and in ways that are so manipulative that when you do finally lose your cool it makes you look like you over reacted... we were talking about the way you have victory over those people is by never reacting to them... we were talking about that's why turning the cheek is so important... because when we never react we overcome...

True freedom is being who we want to be no matter what's happening outside of ourselves... like Jesus on the cross... even though they were crucifying Him, He remained who He is by saying, "Father forgive them... they know not what they do" When we can continue to love like that no matter what's happening to us we've overcome the world because even though lawlesness abounded our hearts never grew hard.

My friend said that to me one day... he said, "Just make sure you never harden your heart Robbie" I now realize that was some of the best advice I was ever given...

Just some thoughts I thought I'd share...

PS: Now if I can only remember that next time I'm ready to snap... haha

Yes, we need to moving in the direction of being an overcome all of the time. To move backward is to die in sin. To stand still is to die in sin. How close can we get to God? How close will we allow ourselves to approach Him? The limit is not in God, but in us!

Always turn the other cheek Jesus commanded us to do that he is the truth? To the farther, next time when you turn the other cheek pray for them, Jesus also commanded us to do that, pray for those that persecute you.

One other thing robin, when some one is spiteful towards you and you answer them in a sarcastic manner that’s the way Satan would answer them? That is truth,
answer someone the way Jesus would answer them.

In god there is no sin? Satan is sin? That is truth he has infected all of us that is truth

we can not over come sin on are own its impossible full stop, first we have to want to give it up totally in its entirety, Jesus never sinned he rebuked it in its entirety, Jesus was showing us the way to the father that is truth ,because we sin we have a characteristic of Satan in us. That is truth.

Cry out abba father ask the Holy Spirit for the gift of self control over sin with your own effort robin the Holy Spirit will do all the work for you. sWhen you sin again repent and god for gives you remember in prayer robin god love for you in depth and height it is infinite.

sin is a daily struggle.

Hey Helmet...

I'm not saying our goal shouldn't be to be more like Jesus... but if becoming more like Jesus is what brings us closer to God why did Jesus have to die for our sins? Why isn't it just that we have to improve ourselves? And why did Jesus say this?

Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

If it was through our own righteousness how is it possible the Tax Collector went down to his house justified and not the Pharisee?

How is it possible the tax collector was justified at all?

The tax collector repented his sins. The Pharisees, on the other hand, did not repent. Jesus died for our sins, but we still have our part to do. Our part is to repent, which means to turn away from sin. We can do this with God's grace because with God, all things are possible.

In Christ,
Selene

Yeah... I don't see it that way because the tax collector doesn't say, "God be merciful to me I stopped sinning" he said, "God be merciful to me a sinner"

You know where I'm coming from?

But if you're right bring it!!! I'd love nothing more than for God to perfect me now!!! I believe it's possible with Him... but I'm a blow it...

As of now I feel the most righteous I could ever be is being covered by the blood of the lamb...

To believe a spiritual Christian is still a sinner is toignore much of the Written Word of God

(1 John 3: 3 - 9) “Surely everyone whoentertains this hope must purify himself, must try to be as pure asChrist. Any one who sins at all breaks thelaw, because to sin is to break the law. Now you know that He appeared in order to abolish sin, and that in Himthere is no sin; anyone who lives in God does not sin, and anyone who sins hasnever seen Him or known Him. Mychildren do not let anyone lead you astray; to live a holy life is to be holyjust as He is holy; to lead a sinful life is to belong to the Devil, since theDevil was a sinner from the beginning. It was to undo all that the Devil has done that the Son of Godappeared. No one who has been begottenby God sins: because God’s seed remains inside him, he cannot sin when he hasbeen begotten by God.”

(Romans 6: 10 - 11) “When He died, He died, oncefor all, to sin, so His life now is life with God; and in that way, you toomust consider yourselves to be dead to sin but alive for God in Jesus Christ.”

(1 John 3:5-6) “Now youknow that he appeared in order to abolish sin, and that in him there is no sin;anyone who lives in God does not sin, and anyone who sins has never seen him orknown him.”

(1 John 3:8) “He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because thedevil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appearedwas to destroy the devil's work.”

(Hebrews 10:21) “If, after we have been givenknowledge of the truth, we should deliberately commit any sins, then there isno longer any sacrifice for them.”

I feel led to say something on this matter about what our Lord Jesus was showing us in Matt.5 and Luke 6 about turning the other cheek. The context in those chapters is about serving Christ, and the world turns against us for it to persecute us.

Matt 5:11-22
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

And just WHY did they persecute God's prophets that came before? Because of God's prophets letting everyone go about their merry way to do evil and not receive rebuke for it? God forbid no. God's prophets handed out rebuke especially to the leaders of the people, because of the evil they were doing! And that's WHY they were persecuted. John the Baptist was beheaded by Herod for his rebuking Herod for taking his own brother's wife. Our Lord Jesus said John the Baptist was not a reed shaking in the wind, which means simply going with the flow.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

We are actually commanded to be a bit salty for Christ, not just going with the flow of things, not having a let it be attitude. That indeed IS done by how we live our lives in Christ so the non-believer can take notice of the difference. That saltiness is also about trying to turn others from doing evil. That often requires a rebuke (with love) to those doing evil.

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

We are called to follow Christ's commandments, AND to teach them, to exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees who taught but didn't do.

21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, "Raca", shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, "Thou fool", shall be in danger of hell fire.
(KJV)

Our Lord Jesus put a condition on being angry with a brother, it's when it's done "without a cause". Anger in righteous indignation in The LORD is not a sin. And if God and His Spirit is with us, then we are going to feel anger (righteous indignation) against evil that is done in the world, just as God's prophets did. That's to drive us to try and correct the evil, not just let it continue. Will Christ's enemies hate us for rebuking evil? Of course they will.

That's the context within our Lord's Message to turn the other cheek because of being salty for Him.

Matt 5:38-39
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
(KJV)

Our Lord Jesus did not contradict Himself, for in Luke 22 He told His disciples that had a purse and scrip (money) to go buy a sword. That's why this turning the other cheek Message is especially about when serving Him in The Gospel and in righteous indignation, and we get persecuted for it. In that situation we are to turn the other cheek.

But not when it comes to self-defense against some thief or murderer breaking in, or someone trying to harm our family or brethren. (Recall how an active shooter came into a Christian Church in Texas a few years back and started randomly shooting people. One of the members in that Church with a concealed carry permit put a stop to it, shot the guy on the spot). Christianity is not about letting murderers run rampant on the street.

I do not believe that Jesus is asking us to compromise our values. I think He is asking us to accept what is. Victor Frankl was a Jewish man who had to endure the concentration camps of Nazi Germany. He had to accept what was happening, before he could decide how to respond. He survived because he accepted reality - beyond his ego response - and he decided that even though the Nazis' took everything from him - they could not take his ability to respond to their evil.

Jesus is telling us to accept reality and respond with love - especially when it is unfair.

Spectacular!!

Luke 22:35-38
35 And He said unto them, "When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing?" And they said, "Nothing."
36 Then said He unto them, "But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in Me, 'And he was reckoned among the transgressors': for the things concerning Me have an end."
38 And they said, "Lord, behold, here are two swords." And He said unto them, "It is enough."
(KJV)

Our Lord Jesus' words in red there.
