This analogy is so true, and to me it shines light on what the Lord desires of us most. Dogs can also be rather disgusting creatures, LoL. They do things that are unseemly as well as truly distasteful, quite literally. This is referred to in 2 Peter 2:21-22. So how do they make up for these serious shortcomings in the eyes of human beings? They are faithful and loyal. They may not always obey, but they at least always give you the impression that they want to. And they are very loving.

Because of all these things, they are often referred to as "Man's best friend." We will never be perfectly obedient to God either. And for some of us, well... let's just say Christians can cause Him serious embarrassment sometimes. But it's our love for Him and our faithfulness to Him and our loyalty to Him that causes Him to overlook our indiscretions. Certainly He will correct us on things because certain behaviors simply cannot be tolerated. But when He can see we love Him and we are trying our best, He forgives us, knowing that we bring Him more joy and happiness than grief, and knowing that the love we have for Him will lead us to try and correct the things we are still getting wrong.

I love the dog analogy. It's taught me a lot about the Lord, what He desires and tolerates, and what brings Him the most joy. :)
I love how you took it much further and opened it up more. Thank you for sharing.

Their "unclean" nature I think is why the Lord sometimes compared the Gentiles to dogs. Their behaviors exposed them to being possessed by unclean spirits.

The Gospels record a meeting between Jesus and a Greek woman (Mark 7:24-29; Matthew 15:21-28). Jesus goes to Tyre and Sidon, and there He meets a desperate mother willing to do anything for her suffering child. “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely tormented by a demon.” (Matthew 15:21-22). When his Jewish disciples demanded He answer her, He said, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But when she refused to give up, it says, “she came, knelt before him, and said, 'Lord, help me!' He answered her: 'It isn’t right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.'" (Matthew 15:23-26).

Her response that even the dogs eat the crumbs from the Master's table pleases Him, likely because He knew she understood what He was saying. So He applauds her great faith; great faith in Him to heal, but more importantly in Him to heal her daughter in particular, despite her being what she was and despite her daughter being what she was.

Excellent lesson in the extent of God's love, even for us disgusting Gentiles, LoL.

Yesterday when I was sorting stuff out I came across this poem that I had written in 2010. I had forgotten all about it but here it is hot off the press so to speak. @Helen , @Rita , @faithfulness, @GodsGrace. @Grams @Mayflower @Nancy @farouk @Addy @Heart2Soul

HIS GRACE

Help me to understand, Lord
In the trials and the pain;
Let there be a guiding hand, Lord
When my life’s in bits again.
When my heart’s a darkened place,
Lord let me know your grace.

Help me bear the wounds Lord,
That I’ve suffered on this road;
Let there be a helping hand Lord,
To relieve me of this heavy load.
When my heart’s a painful place,
Lord let me know your grace.

Help me see the end Lord,
Of this season’s bitter hold;
Let there be a shining light Lord,
To lead me safe into the fold.
And as my heart finds that quiet place,
Lord I thank you for your grace.

@GodsGrace : "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. .. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14.18; 27)

Deep sympathy.

@GodsGrace I had forgotten about and it had never been typed up until the other day, and I knew when I posted it that it was meant for somebody. It must have been a very sad day for you so I'm so pleased that my little poem blessed you.

SUNSHINE

I've been remembering a lovely day from many years ago. It started off looking as if it might rain but it didn't. Instead the sun came out and it was been quite warm. My son I took a picnic to the park where we spent an enjoyable couple of hours eating our lunch and enjoying the sunshine. My little boy played on the slide and the roundabout; we fed the sparrows and watched them taking a bath in the pond which was also home to hundreds of little tadpoles. We felt the texture of the new mown grass from the bowling green and smelled its fragrance; piled high in a wheelbarrow it looked quite tempting and I remembered the joys of rolling about in the newly cut grass when I myself was little. The sun shone for most of the day but now it went in later, or rather the clouds came over. I think life is very much like the weather; we have our sunny spells when everything seems perfect and our rainy days when we feel sad; we have our foggy days when we can’t see where we are going and the bleak, dreary damp days when everything seems to be going wrong. Our Father knows what he is up to though, for just as without the changes in the weather crops and flowers wouldn’t flourish and life would be much less enjoyable, we need the changes in our lives to make us stronger and more fruitful in our Christian lives.

For the joy of the LORD is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10

Thank you for the good days and the more difficult ones Lord for they make us grow…Amen
