15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. - 2 Timothy 2:15.

The book of Acts is a powerful book! You see the Ascension of Jesus Christ. You see the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. You see men speaking with other tongues. You you see the beginning of the church. You see God working many mighty miracles. You see the Apostle Paul being called into the ministry. On and on it goes.. missionary journeys!

But what is not seen, is what is important as anything written in the book of Acts!
What is not written or seen in the book of Acts is; what we find written in the Apostle Paul's Epistles! The "in Christ" message.

Now if you are going to try to put scripture together and have some understanding of it..you must put it together like it is put together..or see how it is written. How does that work? you do not add things that are not there or take away things that are there. That is the first unwritten rule of sound understanding and study of what and how scripture is written. No speculation..you cannot say 'well I believe this is what I think it's trying to say.' You cannot do that. What we do is take time to learn what it says, and how to study, and more importantly listen to the Holy Spirit..and then speak with a little understanding.

The book of Acts is as sound as any book written in scripture! you just have to read it like it is written. I used to preach from Acts alot. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit was a powerful event to take place in history.

So why was the "in Christ" message not preached on that day? It didn't exist yet! It was not yet revealed to the Apostle Paul that Christ would dwell in believer's. It was not yet revealed when a sinner believed on the Lord Jesus Christ they would be saved by Christ in them. When the church was started on the day of Pentecost..it was started by men and women being placed in Christ. But "in Christ" as a message given to Paul was not in effect as of yet.

I use to wonder about Ananias and Sapphira in the book of Acts. Until the Spirit showed me.. God was still trying to reach Israel, and all they knew was law.

28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it. - Acts 28:28.

So even though grace was coming into effect, he was still trying to reach Israel by the only method they knew to have a relationship with God.

So point being; when you study scripture..what is not written is just as important as what is written. When you understand there is a specific message to you..then you can rightly divide scripture, and it gives the scripture proper interpretation. The Holy Spirit will teach you how to study and understand what is written!

The word of God is important because it’s the only thing that restores and is able to save the soul, of course the spirit is able to teach however if you are given the chance to look into a Bible and you read and study it, it will renew your mind.

Just take this one verse into consideration

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This is not a renewing of external but a renewing of internal from the heart renewing, and it is so that you may prove what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The Bible talks so much about the power of the Word and what it is able to do for a person.

“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1:21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The implanted word is that of reading the Bible, and it’s able to save ones soul. If you wanna renew your mind you gotta take time to study, does it matter where you start? That is up to you, let the spirit be your Guide, ask God questions about what you are reading.

Ask the questions how, what, why, when, where.

The study of the word is like scrubbing bubbles but it starts in the heart. There are things in there May be hard to understand. There is also history to consider as well from when the time the letters and gospel was written.

It’s all up to individual if they decide to do this or not, but it’s so helpful in this life to do it,

And do so at your own speed and try to gain some knowledge about the Lord Jesus Christ.

“You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”
‭‭II Peter‬ ‭3:17-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Correct. And yet there are many who come to Christians forums and demand that unless something is stated specifically, it is not true. So they want textbook answers to things which are revealed by the Holy Spirit. But if they are devoid of the Spirit, they will never know the truth. Thus they are "ever learning and never able to come unto the knowledge of the truth".

You start in scripture with the plan of God. That happens by looking at "before the foundation of the world."

That encompasses the whole Bible sir. I like to start with John 17:3, which I believe is the very first step of getting on the road to life. One first hears about God, and from that point begins taking in knowledge, growing in knowledge of God and His son Jesus.

When one first meets someone, most every time names are exchanged, so I introduce new ones to God by showing them His name in their Bible if it is available, if not I show them in mine. Since God's name is found in most Bibles at Psalms 83:18 and is the easiest book to find in the Bible, I ask them to read that. After reading that, most people acknowledge that they have heard that name before.

So you are a Jehovah witness @Robert Gwin ?

I have met someone like that who taught the name of Jehovah or Yaweh. However going to that church they did not teach me the word of God. They gave papers that had their own thing on it and used the scriptures to teach whatever was on it.

Still had love for my friend but I believe if people should try to read their Bible and read it and learn about the Lord Jesus Christ while they have a chance; no matter what type of church they go to.

Man can lie to you and manipulate a person easily. But God doesn’t lie, and is not a man that He should repent.

““God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭23:19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Knowing Gods name doesn’t do much to knowing the Lord Jesus Christ too.

Jesus Christ said this:

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
‭‭John‬ ‭17:3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Do whatever you need to but my encouragement is simply to read your Bible and learn about Jesus Christ, and what He has done maybe you believe Jesus Christ came, died, was buried, and raised again, that you believe he paid for your sins and all of those things already.

I don’t know your heart but may Grace and Peace be with you by and through the Lord Jesus Christ and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

Yes sir, I am one of Jehovah's witnesses, and of course everything we teach is Bible based. Is there anything that you would like to know about us in particular Matt?

No, I’m not curious about that group. I just wanna love you for who you are, @Robert Gwin . Which is a brother in Christ, considering you believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ on third day, as far as I know. And that is perfectly okay with me! I believe my friend Lester did too.

God bless,
Matthew G.

'Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.'

(2 Timothy 2:15)

Hello @soul man,

This is an important subject, and I am glad you have raised it. In the verse above Paul urged Timothy to raise himself above the strife of tongues and the vain disputation surrounding him and to concentrate on showing Himself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, by rightly dividing the word of truth.

At this time, Paul and Timothy were in a hard place, for all in Asia had turned away from Paul (2 Timothy 1:15), and his teaching was being rejected. Why was that? Perhaps it was because He could now no longer point to chapter and verse in the Old Testament to prove the validity of the word he preached (Acts 17:2; Acts 17:11), for what he had received was by Divine revelation, a revelation only made to himself, as the Lord's prisoner(Ephesians 3:1&2) . He was given the task of making known the unsearchable riches of Christ (Ephesians 3:8-9), which were not the subject of Old Testament prophecy, but had been hidden in God since before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 3:9 & Colossians 1:26).

Israel were now in a loammi state, the Olive tree of Israel was no longer there to be grafted into, so salvation was no longer, 'of the Jew' (John 4:22), but salvation had been sent to the Gentiles (Acts 28:28), and the truth concerning the Church which is the Body of Christ was to be made known by Paul, who had God's 'good deposit' of truth to administer (Ephesians 1:22-23). This Paul did, by receiving representatives of the churches for instruction while imprisoned (Acts 28:30), and through the writing of the Epistles of Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus, Philemon being a letter of a more personal nature.

The phrase, 'you have to know where you come from in order to know where you are going,' is true here in regard to Scripture: for in order to determine what applies to you, you have to know where you are. Members of the church which is the Body of Christ are viewing the word of God from the perspective of one who has been identified with Christ their Head, in His death, burial, quickening, resurrection and ascension to God's right hand (Romans 5:12-8:39; Ephesians 2:6-7; Colossians 3:1)): for he has been saved by God's grace, His sins have been forgiven him, and he has been presented as holy and without blame before the Father(Ephesians 1:4): having been adopted as sons by God through Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:5); now Accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6), and rendered Complete in Him {Colossians 2:10 KJV) and meet to partake of the inheritance of the saints in light (Colossians 1:12); he is in Christ, where He is, in spirit, and one with the Father and the Son, at God's right hand (Colossians 3:1).

That is quite some perspective, isn't it? We are in Christ, far above ALL principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named: not only in this world, but also in that which is to come (Ephesians 1:21). There is no more secure position that that, is there? We now await His appearing in glory (2 Timothy 4:8; Titus 2:13) , where we will appear with Him there (Colossians 3:4).

Praise God!

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris
