Conscription - Compulsory enlistment into the states armed forces

Its a question that came up in conversation with my neighbour and is one that im unsure of still...
Perhaps someone can sway me with their arguments...

By conscription i don't mean go to war. Im talking about military training for a year or two after high school

I have my arguments both for and against but i'll reserve them for now and put out the question on a clean slate...

Should conscription be mandatory for men? Why? Why not?

There are arguments both for and against! It is a difficult one based on ones emotional bent. the bible does not forbid believers from serving in the
military and we should honor Cesar or render unto Cesar the things that belong to Cesar. Military service is part of that. I do not have a problem with it.

There are arguments for but "Render unto Cesar the things that belong to Cesar" is in reference to paying taxes i believe.
Throwing military service into it is a bit of an assumption...

I think some of the benefits is that it teaches discipline and responsibility along with courage in adversity.
The biggest disadvantage is that you become owned by the state which i have very little trust in.

Well we believers learn all that through the trials involved in being believers. We do not necessarily need military service to accomplish that. While it wasd directly applied to taxes , the command of that if your enemy bids you to go one mile- go two and if they ask for your cloak give them your coat, had to do with Roman soldiers going through a town. Also Romans 13 speaks of obeying government (with the caveat of as long as it does not violate Scripture).

also given the fact that neither John the Baptiust, Jesus nor th eapostles condemned military service when they had the perfect situations to do so speaks loads through its silence

I'm sorry but I must point out your faulty reasoning here...

Just because Jesus didn't condemn military service doesn't mean it's ok. That's a fallacy

There are plenty of things that Jesus didn't condemn such as paedophilia, abortion or beastiality. If you apply that same reasoning then you would have to conclude that it's ok.

So the silence of Christ on a topic doesn't make it ok then, does it?

When men engage in killing other men it affects them negatively. One cannot sin and remain unscathed....irrespective of how things appear to others.

I found the story of Desmond Dos depicted in the film 'Hacksaw Ridge' lotsa food for thought.

Since the armed forces have been compromised and corrupted worldwide, conscription = corruption. Where are the militaries of the world at this time, when human rights and constitutional freedoms are being cancelled left, right, and center? When domestic enemies have taken control of all the "free" countries?

Well, as pertains to today's kids in America, it would maybe help the mindless video game drone types to grow up.
It may also force the lazy , with that sense of entitlement Liberal public schools have engrained into them for more hours in school than at home, to wake up.

Anyone who thinks to try and insult the American military by labeling them mindless tools are ungrateful fools.
Imagine that influencing young minds into their future.

As we see in the Bible, warfare is not necessarily a sin or evil. The book of Joshua should suffice.

But conscription into today's armies is a prescription for corruption. All the top brass have been thoroughly corrupted, and lower ranking officers have not dealt with their treason.

Murder is sin, and people being murdered by the medical establishments today is a crime against humanity. Anyone going into a hospital today will be a candidate for medical murder.

I haven't voted yet I'm but I'm leaning towards no for the reason that you mentioned... Corruption.

There should be many military coups happening now around the world but we don't see any, they're all complicit with the globalist take over

The military is not for everybody and that is just the way it is. And it may not be your calling or the ministry that God wants for you....another purpose....but I do recommend finding that purpose and that ministry. And I do not begrudge those that do not have it within them to go into the military or even those that chose to not go into the military. To live a normal life in a free country and have a normal job and a house and family. (Of course our free country is under attack from within.)

But then it does not matter if it was our fore fathers that fought the American Revolutionary War or the World Wars, the thousand that died fighting for our freedoms and the right to be Christians. Freedom and Liberty and freedom of religion is not the norm in this world....it takes blood and lives to get it and it takes blood and lives to keep it. And it is part of human nature that many will take all that for granted. A lot of people died so people could choose not to fight and have the freedom to believe as they wish. I am glad now that I choose to go into the military....

Correct. And within a matter of months, all that sacrifice has been washed down the drain, and America is de facto a Communist/Fascist country with a Gulag. So why has the military (the lesser rank officers below the generals who have committed treason) stood by and allowed domestic enemies to destroy America day by day 24/7 from January 2021? The veterans and special forces veterans sent out a warning to the criminals in high office that they would be held accountable. So where are the arrests -- beginning with criminal fraudster Joe Biden?

Oh but Jesus did. those words were not even coined then. but fornication is simply any illicit sex and all sex outside of marriage is illicit sex.

When th ebible is silent on a matter- we have liberty to approach God for ourself to see what He wills for us! The Bible is also silent on driving cars and flying in planes and motion pictures. But we have the principles laid down to guide us.

Is is news to you that fornication is not a biblical word?
That from the time of Genesis that marriages were formed by sexual unions.
That the Hebrews did not have a word for wed or wedding.
That there is no bibleical requirement for a wedding to be married.
That the first documented Christian wedding occurred in the 9th century.
That it was the Protestants who were the first to require a wedding to be married...1500's.

It's still a weak argument...

Just because Christ never spoke of it doesn't mean it's ok...

Some people will claim God told them it's ok while others will claim God told them it's not. Most probably it's just their own thoughts

No I don’t believe the draft should be mandatory, for those who believe in God and Christ, should know that the end is near and that Christ through the father shall return as the Lion and smite all the non believers and wicked ones of the face of the Earth along with their master Satan, so let the wars play out, because the final result has already been set, and its true believers shall live again in paradise as God intended for us, as Adam and Eve did before Eve betrayed God and her husband and led him astray and therefore brought the Death penalty on us.

For those who believe in the Father and the Son shall live in paradise as God intended, and our deceased loved ones shall be risen from the dead and we will be reunited with our loved ones and live together in happiness and with love from and for the Father and his son here on Earth.

Believe it or not- those are teh "gray" areas where individual believers have liberty before God! there are enough revealed commands to deal with without wondering about things that were never forbidden or promoted.

But the fact that neither Jesus nor the apostles in their writings said service in a nations military is wrong is also telling. You may think it weak, but they had perfect opprotunities to speak against it and they didn't.

Imagine that influencing young minds into their future.

As someone who went to a very liberal college and interacted with many people who reject their upbringing and embrace very one-sided politics, I do think younger people have become more secular and materialistic, many are very addicted to video games or social media for hours on end, and they have become much more jaded and nihilistic, like without any sense of higher meaing and purpose, which is also coinciding with the massive decline of religion in the Western world in general.

But there are better ways to help them seek something else. Perhaps a year of community service after graduation in a poor or impoverished country in Africa or Latin America, to help them realize how lucky they are to be born in America, not somewhere else?

I am strongly against unjustified foreign conflicts. And yet, I deeply respect and admire those in the military, or at least their sense of discipline and personal responsibility, fighting for something more than themselves and their self-centered lives. While I attended a left-wing college, I found this West Point cadet's experience very deeply inspiring:
