This is a biblical principle that I try to stand on continuously...there have been times in my life where I gave into temptation and would tell a lie to my mom to get money...:( it always seemed to backfire in the purpose I intended to use it for.
Such as it would get stolen or lost...or the item I wanted would get damaged and become useless...etc.
Recently I was driving a friend to cash a large check. Along the way he confessed he falsified information to get it....I said "seriously? After I have shared over and over again that I want no part in helping someone benefit from anything ill-gotten?"
Well I was already committed and after several attempts no one would cash it because he didn't have proper ID. His wallet was stolen and he hasn't been able to replace it.
Well here is what scripture says....
Proverbs 10 (KJV)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
² Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
³ The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
⁴ He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
⁵ He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

“The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.”
— Proverbs 21:6 (KJV)
“The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.”
— Proverbs 11:18 (KJV)
“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
— 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV)
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
— Proverbs 14:12 (KJV)

This is a powerful lesson about how God views the gain of wealth....
Our source should always come from Him who blesses the labor of the righteous man, But the one who devises a way to supply his needs through any type of deception will lose not only that which he gained through deception but even what he now owns will be taken away.

This friend has been involved in ill-gotten gains for years as I have come to find out...
With his inheritance he bought several duplexes and rented them out...almost every renter failed to pay rent and eventually his property was foreclosed and he lost everything.

So my final advice I gave him was to repent, return the check, and let God be His source...
But he refused.

Had to tend to some things so I want to ask this...
1. What is another example of an ill gotten gain?
2. If you're not aware of something being ill gotten and you help them like I was doing...are you an accomplice?
3. Can a church be guilty of ill gotten gain?
4. If a stranger is offering to sell you something at an extremely low price should you buy it?
5. Do you ask them if it was stolen?
6. Do you buy it knowing it was stolen?

Yes and there are many ways to gain something by dishonest ways....
What about filing taxes? Not reporting earnings outside of employment, or claiming expenses you didn't truly have....? So much opportunity that we have and some intentional and some not.

1) stealing is a big one. I believe the lottery might, because it is gambling.

2)eh. Idk. Depends on what you do when you find out I guess. Ill have to look it up, but the Bible talks about somewhere of eating meat at a pagan's house, but not knowing about the meat. I believe it was okay for the person doing so, because they didn't know. But I'll have to look this up. I just remember reading. I think think this would be the same thing in God's eyes.

3) I think churches can cheat on taxes too. I'm sure some do, but I personally think it falls on an leadership. The no congregation does suffer because of this though. One time I knew a pastor who was fired for stealing offerings. He was fired, but that hurt the entire church.

4) would depend on how much rep he has. I would definitely wait and not make the decision alone or quickly.

5) Id ask the police station if I had any doubts. It is why I wouldn't by second hand phones.

6) No way!!!!!!

I'm going to look up that meat passage. I don't even know what I'd type into the search engine to find it

I wouldn't confront a thief. They're usually hostile as a method of protecting themselves from imprisonment. They see snitches as vial and evil and often desire harm to them.

That said, I had a guy want me to help him get a loan from a dollar tree. He wanted to use my phone and I let him and shouldn't have. They turned him down anyways and he wanted to get someone elses phone and say it was his to get the loan. I turned him down at that point and just went home. I knew he would never have paid it back too. I helped him to feed him when he was homeless and he caused me so much trouble that I backed out of that too. Lesson learned.

I've helped a few homeless people along the way till now and have regretted it each time. It's not like the Lord's time. A lot of the homeless people now are messed up drug addicts. We have churches and gov that can help them out so I quit doing it as it became too dangerous for me. A lot of the homeless people around me are at their end and become violent.

1 Corinthians 10:27-28

27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, both for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience.

---

Here it is. I do wonder if this is applicable in a situation like this.

Totally understand...been there, done that...
Most receive food stamps but without a way to store it or cook it then it doesn't do much good...So what do they do? Sell them for 50 cents on the dollar....and usually use the money to buy alcohol, drugs or spend at the casino.

Yeah I kinda thought that was the case too. The guy I would help would get his money from the gov and go thru it in 3 days or so then be back at my house wanting food. I helped him for a year or two but with my health problems I just couldn't keep helping others. It's really sad. But he's in a place now and doing much better for the time being. So I'm happy for him.

So this, is someone who's level of poverty is so severe that he can't even afford a place to live....I often wonder how they ended up in that situation....
And most of the time it is a result of ill gotten gain....and that's what scripture is telling us..
so do you think we enable people like this to do that when we help them after they have already wasted what the government have them.?.
It causes poverty in our lives...

God Bless.

He's disabled and doesn't get too much money, but rent right now for a one bedroom is around 1250 which is really high and disability just doesn't cover it. A lot of the homeless are crazy and not taking any meds because of their situation.
