I was super concerned about getting cancer since I chew tobacco. For a time it was obsessive with me. Then I read a study done that indicated no increased risk from chew tobacco. Smoking is of course dangerous as is eating smoked meat. So I'm a little less worried now. I would discourage people from starting a chew tobacco habit as it limits your freedoms and is addictive, expensive and may cause cancer:

Oral cancer in a tobacco-chewing US population--no apparent increased incidence or mortality - PubMed

Results: The average annual incidence rates (per 100,000 population) for oral/pharyngeal cancer in West Virginia males and females were 13.4 and 5.1, respectively; these compared with rates of 15.4 and 5.7 for the US. The average annual mortality rates (per 100,000 population) for the disease in West Virginia males and females were 4.2 and 1.6, respectively; these compared with 4.4 and 1.5 for the US. West Virginia oral/pharyngeal mortality rates for both genders were statistically significantly lower than US rates throughout the years 1950 through 1980. Among other potential oral cancer etiologic factors, the very low prevalence of alcohol abuse in West Virginia seemed to be relevant.

Conclusions:
The hypothesis was not confirmed by data analysis. West Virginia is the state with the highest per capita consumption of smokeless tobacco, yet it has less oral/pharyngeal cancer than the US average. The authors strongly urge additional and improved epidemiologic evaluation of the oral cancer risk of smokeless tobacco use in US males.

Smoked meats, perhaps God just doesn't like smoke: Smoked food and cancer - PubMed

Smoking is a well-known source of food contaminated caused by carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Epidemiological studies indicates a statistical correlation between the increased occurrence of cancer of the intestinal tract and the frequent intake of smoked foods. As observed during the last 10 years in a certain district of Hungary with a Slovenian population, the percentage of stomach cancer among all types of cancer is nearly twice as high (47-50%) as in Hungary altogether (29.9%). In this special district, predominantly home-smoked meat products are consumed.

Smoked meat causes cancer? That is not news I wanted to hear. I love it. Chewing tobacco is like crack. Best to just avoid it. I have friends that chew and it is a temptation when they are around.

Yes it is like crack. Super hard to quit. But yes 50% increase risk of cancer when people eat predominately smoked meats. Stomach cancers. I was shocked too. I love smoked salmon, pepperoni sticks and beef jerky. All great with cheeses.

Smoke causes cancer it's clear. In fact there are links to burning incense and cancer: Is burning incense linked to respiratory cancers?

Some studies have found that burning incense indoors increases the levels of chemicals called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which have been linked to cancer. This makes sense – burning any sort of organic material, whether tobacco leaves, coal or an incense stick – produces PAHs. But the mere presence of PAHs does not mean that people have a higher risk of cancer. It comes down to the dose. Does burning incense produce enough of these chemicals to actually affect a person’s cancer risk? The largest study so far, looking at incense use and cancer, tracked the health of 61,000 people in Singapore. Although the study claimed to show that people who used incense most heavily were almost twice as likely to develop cancer in their airways than those who did not, the results were weak.

I was a smoker for many years. Quit 5 years ago. Grandkids seem to help you with that..lol

These habits are hard to break. No one thought I could do it. In fact I did not think I could. I still get cravings. it probably will never go away

Matthew 6:34
KJV: Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
ESV: Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
ASV: Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
NIV: Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

the word of God is right truly a hassle thinking about tomorrow

And yet, it is wise to consider living a cleaner, healthier lifestyle that is good for the body God gave us.

“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them.” (1 Corinthians 6:12-13)
