While it may not be physical in the present mortal bodily sense, for Christ was raised with a spiritual body, yet those remaining on the earth will usually see Him, great the door and the trumpet, and witness the dead being raised. Whatever your mean by spiritual I don't know, but however these things transpire, they will be experiential events that will end the world as we know it.
You are getting closer. Just remember, He said, “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me." John 14:19

the explanation is in the fact that satan comes first .

Luke 12:40 "Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not."

This is a very interesting verse, for the time that most people will be unprepared for Jesus Christ's return, is when they think that Christ is already here. When they are deceived into thinking that the first chirst is the True Christ.
Best think again:

And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven." John 14:19

Great subject Scott. We believe Jesus was enthroned as King ushering us into the last days of this world in 1914. Of course although not completely gone yet, some feel that generation is, but as you and I know the end has not yet happened. Keep in mind that later in that chapter he gave a hint that it would appear late, in fact so late that some of the faithful slave themselves would declare their master is delaying and fall away from the faith v48

The scene of this world is changing so drastically that even non students of the Bible can see that something is very strange, and most who have any knowledge of God at all believe that we are very near to Jesus' return. We believe we are right on the verge of the great tribulation, as maybe you do as well, of course we still do not know the day or hour, but the chapter was given to us to help Jesus disciples discern the time period, so that we can keep on the watch and be prepared.
This is an honest and respectful response. Thank you!

To help the thought process...not looking for a denominational expose--please don't, but let me ask you:

Would you say that the 1914 generation was something "new under the sun?"

Best think again:

And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven." John 14:19

Ditto ,satan falling from Heaven is past as well as future.

Luke 10:18 "And He said unto them, "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."

This now is a new subject that Jesus is teaching us. This is Jesus speaking to His followers and it is prophetic, and refers back to the time of the garden of Eden, and Satan's fall from the first earth age. It also applies to Revelation 12: 7-9, when when Michael will cast Satan out onto the earth, and his fallen angels will come with him. So in the word "fall" indicates that Satan will be here in person because he was kicked out of heaven, and not on his own accord. The plan is set in motion, and it will take place exactly as it is written. Satan came in the first place as a deceiver, to destroy the seed line that the Christ would come through. The second time he will come as the false Messiah, to deceive all the people of the earth. It will happen exactly as it was prophesied.

Nothing new under the sun, that which has been shall happen again

Ecclesiastes 1:9 "The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun."

Solomon, with the guidance of the Spirit of God, is telling you that those things that have happened before, will happen again. It is important that you understand this. There is no new idea or thing that can happen to man that has not already happened to man. Remember that "under the sun" in in reference to "this flesh body of man".

This point helps us understand the Word of God, and the types that the prophets of old give us in their writings. Paul told us in I Corinthians 10:11; "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."

"Ends of the world", means the ends of this earth age, or dispensation where man lives in his flesh body. Paul told us that all those things that were written by the prophets of man's actions, and what happened to them when they either violated God's law, or kept God's law were examples to us, for there is no new thing that will happen to flesh man, that has not already happened to others in the past. We are to study God's Word, and by our understanding of His Word, we can have the peace of mind that comes with God's faithfulness to His Word.

There is nothing new under the sun, even to the point of what happens at the end of this earth age, is a copy of what happened at the end of the first earth age. God has detailed out for us in His Word all events that will take place, right up to His second coming at the sounding of the seventh and final trumpet. He has name the signs, and given us examples even of the one world system that is coming upon us now, and will rule the minds of all mankind very shortly, all that is, except God's elect who know the truths, and will not be deceived.

That is already void, as Jesus said, "the world sees me no more."
That was in relation to His resurrection and ascension. The world did not see Christ after that, only His apostles and disciples. But that is not the end of the story. Christ will come again to earth "with power and great glory" and His coming will be visible to all. So what you have done is bypassed the Olivet Discourse (and dozens of prophecies) and created your own eschatology.

I would say it was a significant step in the forward movement of God's people. It was prophesied to come actually to a degree in the Garden of Eden with the first prophecy found at Gen 3:15. Although that prophecy is not yet fulfilled fully, I think that we can agree that Jesus receiving the crown was a significant step in the progressive fulfilling of that prophecy. We still have at least another millennium before it is fulfilled completely, as Jesus has yet to crush the head of satan.

Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Matthew 24:34

Of course there is more, in fact all of Matthew 24 is referred to in verse 34.

This issue that has now been going on for two millennia (50-80 generations) is that the signs Jesus gave have been carried forward for lack of those things previously being seen. So--for lack of sight, we have assumed "this generation" of the coming of the Son of Man is still future. Lack of sight. Let me say that again: For lack of sight, we have taken an assumptive position about the end of all things. And hey, why not, after all if time goes on, we must be right to assume--right?

One would think so--no, scratch that--nearly everyone thinks so. In fact, if you said anything different to your friends, family, pastor, or priest...you'd likely be labeled a heretic. And that is how it has been for 2,000 years.

But I would argue--not because I need to or because I am suggesting my opinion is better than all the others--but because an argument is what one is liable to get. Anyway--not my opinion--but this is what Jesus spoke of, saying, "Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." This is these many generations "trampling" on the truth for lack of understanding.

Go figure. Which is why He finished the above description, saying, "the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." Meaning, that what most have expected--is not true.

But how shall I even begin to tell you what is true? Who will believe it?

I hear people regularly citing a variety of things as signs of Jesus' return. However, the things they cite are listed by Jesus as simply things that will happen. Matthew 24:6 - "And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. " None of these are signs of the end. The end is not yet.

More things are listed as things that will happen that are not signs.

Then, we come to a specific statement whose punctuation has muddled the waters since 1611. People say things like, "once the Gospel is preached in every language, Jesus will come back." All of that comes from verses 13 through 15.

They read, "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)"

The punctuation makes the last "sentence" a sequence of phrases that do not make a sentence. That is the first clue.

They SHOULD read:
"But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations. (This gospel is 'he that endures to the end will be saved.')
And then shall the end come when ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place. (whoso readeth, let him understand:)"

The abomination of desolation is THE sign of the end. All the other things may happen. But they are not the signs of the end. They are signs of the ongoing depravity of humankind. Verse 21 tells us the great tribulation will begin. Verse 29 says the great tribulation will end. Only then will the believers be gathered.

Verses 33 and 34 say, "So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled."

"All these things" include the abomination of desolation and the great tribulation. The generation that sees the abomination of desolation AND the great tribulation will not pass until all these things are fulfilled. At this time in history, things will be the worst they have ever been. In spite of the horror around us, we are told to not lose hope. "He that endures to the end will be saved."

We have a second confirming witness.

2 Thessalonians 2;1-5 says Jesus will not return, and the believers will not be gathered, until the man of sin is revealed. How is he revealed? He goes into the Temple and sits on the throne of YHVH, de facto declaring himself to be God. This is the abomination of desolation. Sitting on YHVH's throne, declaring himself to be God, enrages the Father. This is what triggers the sequence of events that lead to the end.

So, where is YHVH's throne?

For more info about the abomination of desolation, read the books of the Maccabees.

You are closest, but have not put it all together. You are all over the map--which is good, but not until it is all put together. Recognizing that all those factors point to one truth must come together as one.

These things do not point in every which direction, but to the heart, they are one truth:
  • God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
  • There is nothing new under the sun.
  • Each in his own order.
These things cannot be reconciled as one generation--but only as every generation. North, South, East, and West, all the heavens are gathered together. And yes, you can look at each enactment, each age individually--but you divide what God has joined together, which He only separated for these times of revealing all things to children in the simplest way. But this is that same big circle leading to the promised land, which need not be until the death of this generation, now that we have come so far. That version is not where being lead unto all truth leads--which was appointed to us for these last days.

To fully understand what Jesus prophesied, you must fully understand what He meant by "this generation."

First, it needs to be understood that He referred to "this" generation speaking to those of "that" generation, and did not error. The error is that of men without understanding. If you side with them--you are one of them, and against Christ's initial word to those to whom He spoke it. But He also spoke to all--He said that, saying in prayer, "not only these, but all." Which then agrees with what Paul explained was "each in his own order" and "now is the time of salvation" regarding the coming of the Lord. Which things are true of every generation...and that is the full and correct meaning of "this generation." In this way, it applies to all...and every eye shall see.

Haha, I was wondering when I would hear from the establishment! :D I mean from the millions and millions of that most popular crowd, that have taken the broad way for these past millennia.

But no, "no more" does not mean "Well, not actually n-o...m-o-r-e...but kind of...that is, not until the end."

But I digress--I like you--and your explanation is not completely off. He does kind of come to the earth--well within those who are His on the earth, and well, in the clouds above the earth. Kinda. And surely, everything that is written will come to pass..."every eye will see", and all that. All that is true. But that is not on the earth where these many generations as many as the sands of the sea have passed on--many who were raised up with Him and are with Him even now. But to be clear, He does not touch down on the Mount of Olives in the way most have wrongly believed, for He said, only "in the clouds" and "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."

And I would be happy to discuss any of the Olivet Discourse or other prophecies with you. This particular one is what Jesus actually meant when He said "this" generation and how He did not error to say "this" generation to "that" generation.

...And that millennium comment--that's another thing.

Thank you.

However, much of that still points to the common expectation which Jesus said would not be when He comes. Matthew 24:44

Since the beginnings of the early church men began to believe that Jesus would not "come quickly" or that what He said would not "shortly come"--that Jesus was wrong, or that they misunderstood what He meant by "this generation", and so began the redefining of what He meant. And this they did, because they did not see those things He said they would see. As I said before, trusting in their own eyes, their lack of sight caused them not to believe what He said...and they began to preach another gospel.

But Jesus did not error to say "this" generation to "that" generation.

And anyone who has believed He did...will need to start over--for they have believed a lie. 2 Thessalonians 2:11

I don't know what that first sentence means.

"Come quickly" means "quickly," not "soon." That is referring to the pace at which the events at the end take place. The Greek verb there is "tacheon," from where we get tachometer. Once the events begin, it will over quickly. The abomination of desolation is the triggering event for the ending of the sacrifices and the final 42 months of hell on earth. Luke 21:20-28. When Jerusalem is surrounded by armies, the end is near.

Jesus was saying, "this generation, the one I am talking about now, will be the one that sees the end. I am not calling you people sitting with me now 'this generation.' You will not see all these things."

The generation is of the fig tree when Israel became a nation again

Mark 13:28 "Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:"

Jesus is giving a command to His elect here, "learn a parable of the fig tree". It is necessary for you to know this parable, or you will never understand the consummation of the end of this earth age. You have to know a little about agriculture to understand the teachings of our Heavenly Father. You don't plant a fig tree, you set out shoots, and it is from that shoot that the tree is formed and it then brings forth leaves. Those leaves are the new growth, meaning that this shoot is yet tender. In this state, this fig tree will not produce any fruit. This particular fig tree produces both the good and the bad figs, that we read of in Jeremiah 24, about the two baskets of figs. Remember that one basket set was of Good figs, and the other basked was Bad figs.

The "parable of the fig tree" started in the garden of Eden, and most churches have turned this parable into a joke and a fairy-tale about apples. What happened in the garden of Eden, happened in a fig grove, and after what was done there, Adam and Eve sowed fig leaves together to cover the parts of their body that did the evil act.

Jesus didn't say, maybe you should learn this parable of the fig tree, He commanded us to do it. So the horticulture of this parable is that the fig tree always puts forth shoots, and Jeremiah 24 symbolized when Judah would return to Jerusalem, and Judaea, and that happened in 1948, at the establishment of the nation of Israel, as we know it today. Full control of the city was after the war with the Arabs of 1967. This return to establish this Jewish state is important because it is part of the "parable of the fig tree", that Jesus commanded us to learn.

Mark 13:29 "So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors."

"These things" that Jesus is speaking about are these seven seals of that are the subject of Mark 13. In the verse just before this, it told us that summer was nigh and the time for Christ harvest of this earth age was going to take place. So when you see the events of these seals take place, than know that the end of this earth age of the flesh is coming to a close. Some of the signs of the end, as we saw earlier, are the establishing of a Jewish state, the new world order taking place, nations align up as biblically prophesied, and remember that when the tribe of Judah returned to their home land, it hadn't happened since their were booted out by General Titus in 70 A.D. There is not need to guess on this matter, for when you know the parable of the fig tree, God sets the date, and we are to observe what He has written to us through His Word.

Never before since the crucifixion of Christ has the Jews returned to Judaea as a nation. Remember that this was part of the subject, from verse fourteen. "But when you shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:" The command then was to flee Judaea, that is where the fig tree was to be set out.

Mark 13:30 "Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done."

Jesus is telling His disciples and thus we can count on this happening absolutely. The generation that Jesus is speaking of here is the the generation that is present to see the shoot planted in Jerusalem and Judaea. The generation that started when Jerusalem came into the hands of the Jews and the nation was establish, and it happened in 1948. Even though Jerusalem and the west bank never was completely taken unto 1967, be that as it is now, it still took place many years ago and we are living in that final generation. All the things that pertain to the seven seals will be witnessed by our generation and take place right before our eyes. Jesus is warning us to watch out for them, all of them, or you will be deceived and become part of Satan's bride.

Mark 13:31 "Heaven and earth shall pass away: but My words shall not pass away."

This earth age will pass away, but not one Word of what Jesus spoke in his entire Word will fail to come to pass. You can count on it completely. This earth has been around for millions and possibly billions of years, but what Jesus is saying is this earth age of man in the flesh will pass away, and then this earth will be the same place where Christ's kingdom age called the Millennium age, will take place.

And I would be happy to discuss any of the Olivet Discourse or other prophecies with you. This particular one is what Jesus actually meant when He said "this" generation and how He did not error to say "this" generation to "that" generation.
The Greek word translated as generation is genea and it can mean either a race or a family or a generation.

Strong's Concordance
genea: race, family, generation

Original Word: γενεά, ᾶς, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: genea
Phonetic Spelling: (ghen-eh-ah')
Definition: race, family, generation
Usage: a generation; if repeated twice or with another time word, practically indicates infinity of time.

In this context "generation" means the Jewish race or the nation of Israel. Israel supposedly "passed away" (vanished) in AD 70 but was restored as a nation in 1948 (of course in unbelief). But there will be a redeemed and restored nation of Israel -- on earth -- for eternity.

“this generation” to me it speaks of a wicked, sinful and perverse generation. Ephesians 2:2-3. among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:--That all these things must come upon “this generation”. my perspective is: that which is flesh is flesh as “this generation” “lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind —considering John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him.
^think about that… shall not see life but instead the wrath of God abides on him. What is these things come upon “this generation” and what generation does the “wrath of God come upon”? It has been debated always…coming to pass… the “wrath of God come upon” …this generation.

Also possibly relative is “the darkness is now passed” to “this generation will not pass” where He said “they that hate their brother walk in darkness still” …is this walking in darkness still the same as “this generation will not pass until” …until the darkness has passed?

More references “You shall keep them, O Lord, You shall preserve them from this generation

what is ‘this generation’ the Lord shall preserve and keep them from?

What is ‘this generation’?
What is ‘the generation to come’ .
has ‘the generation to come’ come yet?

Psalm 102:18-23 ‘this shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord.

Psalm 71:17-24 O God forsake me not; until I have shown your strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.

Matthew 12:44-46 Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

Matthew 23:31-39 You serpents, you generation of vipers …verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation…

this adulterous and sinful generation’? Mark 8:38 whosoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation…
Sodom and Gomorrah all over again.

Fair enough.

But...you say Jesus "received the crown"...but you do not believe that He has won His victory over Satan, even to the end?

...And that millennium comment--that's another thing.

Do you Scott? We believe that Jesus and his angels have ousted satan from heaven, and now he roams the earth Rev 12:7-9, 12 do you sir? We believe he is roaming the earth at this time period which are called the last days that will not exceed a generation. This last day period is the time from Jesus becoming King, until his return to do the battle of armageddon that will remove him and his horde from the earth for 1k yrs Rev 20:1,2. After the thousand yrs have ended, he will be let loose to roam the earth once again v7 and take quite a few followers with him v8, then the final step is his and his followers demise in the lake of fire v10, 14, 15

It is not hard to understand Scott, but I would be interested if you disagree, your take on it.

You obviously don't even see it, but you are making the same mistake the early church made--explaining away (by your own understanding and definitions of terms) the fact that he said "this" generation to "that" generation and did not error in speaking to them about that present generation. If He were talking about another generation He would not have spoke to His apostles deceivingly.

As for "quickly", He also said those things would "shortly come." Conveniently, you (and they) did not even try to define "shortly" as 2,000 years. If you had, perhaps you would see just how foolish it all is.

Anyway, that is multiple errors, and we have not even begun to talk about the error of the abomination of desolation, or the 42 [months].

Not understanding some cryptic statement of yours has nothing to do with whether I see anything.

You said, "However, much of that still points to the common expectation which Jesus said would not be when He comes. Matthew 24:44" What does that sentence mean? Where is anything about "common expectation" mentioned anywhere?

How am I making a mistake? Jesus said, "the generation that sees all these things that I have been describing is the last generation."

What is the "error of the abomination of desolation?"

The generation is of the fig tree when Israel became a nation again
I see we have to take baby steps. So, just this. It is enough.

The generation of the fig tree is an equal error to that of "this generation" made and propagated by the early church--it is in fact, the same error.

You can even leave me out of it--just ask yourself:
  • Were Jesus' apostles of Israel?
  • Were Jesus' apostles not the first new life to bud from Christ?
  • What generation was that?
We can talk again when you can say: Yes, that generation of the apostles was the generation Jesus was speaking to and of.

It would appear that everyone needs a lesson on the sign of the fig tree (before taking on the error of "this generation." Here:
