This is one thing I do not understand, why seek to change the laws of a nation so that they support your own personal beliefs? When did Jesus try to alter the rulings of Rome? If that was his goal then it seems logical that he would actually have joined the Zealots and fought the way things were run. Jesus was more passive, he taught by words and by example and when the chief priests and scribes tried to trap him by asking him about following the laws of Caesar by paying tribute to him, Jesus replied:"Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's."Luke 20:25On my mind right now are the 2008 presidential elections, I know a lot of voters who will ignore the issues and vote solely for the candidate who is against abortion. This is one of the most frustrating things for me to hear. That tactics used by Jesus were not nearly as invasive as the ones used by people today, Jesus didn't directly challenge the rule of Rome, he made it clear that he was not there as a political force. They took him away and he went quietly, he even stopped his followers from defending him. He would not agree with a lot of things that the Roman Empire did but he did not force anything on anybody. When it comes to things such as abortion, passion for the issue runs strongly on both sides. What I don't understand is why some feel that it is necessary to force it on others through the law. It will not work and it will push more people away from the religion. Why not just preach the way Jesus did, lead by example and not by force. It may seem like a very arduous task, but to change things you have to go to the people, each individual.
