I've thought about this often. It is my understanding that they were all murdered except John. Your thoughts on this please. Why were they murdered?

Hmmm... I would say that the simple answer is that as the world hated Christ, so they hated his messengers. These men were not afraid to show forth the offense of the cross and to shine the light on a dark world. But since the world hates the light, and loves to be in darkness, they hated those who exposed them.

The message of Christ destroys all idols, all philosophies, all human wisdom, and makes them worthless. When people make those things their foundation and one comes preaching a message that would destroy them, men do what it takes to shut them up. And since the Apostles were full of zeal and mighty through the Spirit, the only way to stop them was to kill them.

It's also the strategy of the devil. He knows that men like Peter and Paul wont be turned around, they've seen too much, so the only way to stop it from spreading is to kill them. 'Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered'... Then the weak ones are easier to defeat.

All information about the fate of the disciples is found in Tradition. There is nothing in the Bible that tells us what happened to any of them. For a person who only values the Bible as a true source of knowledge, I am surprised that you are allowing yourself to speculate.

Didn't it have a lot to do with the fact that at the time saying anything other than "Caesar is Lord" was a death penalty. Add that to the Jews who happily ratted out anyone who followed Jesus, and yeah...death of many believers...especially the 'leaders'.
Of course, on the 'grander' scale, as Prentis said...you can bet that Satan had a hand in a lot of the persecution and deaths.

Well no... its found in history. Its not reported in the Bible but is supported.

So ducky decided to go outside the Bible and you want to question him for that? Why

Could it be because he actually believes the Bible and while you have doubts about it's infallibility, it's easy to attack?

John 21:17-19 (NKJV)
17 He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep. 18 Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish." 19 This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God.

It is found in Catholic history - Eusebius Pamphili. Ducky doesn't trust any source outside the Bible.

I believe the entire Bible is inspired by God.

BTW FHII - it is Ducky that has been following me around the board, derailing posts and confronting me with exaggerated claims about my beliefs in the Bible.

John 21:17-19 (NKJV)
17 He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" So what happened to him, Ducky? From the Bible.

Care to translate?

You don't believe Jesus??? Then who do you believe???

Your proof?

You accept no sources from me outside the Bible - I would hope you hold the same standard for yourself.

Care to translate?

Is English your second language? The Bible is inspired by God.

Your proof?

Every thread you posted Matthew 24:37-39 (ESV) when the thread had nothing to do with the Flood Myth.

You don't believe Jesus??? Then who do you believe???

Once again, how did he die, Ducky? If you will be honest for just a minute, you will admit that the specific manner of death is not mention in the verse or any other verse. But, I know you well enough by now to predict that you will choose not to be honest and instead, deflect. It's your same tired tactic of claiming that everyone you can't be honest with is actually 'calling Jesus a liar'. Yawn.....

"19 This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. " Which is?

Big difference. You use outside sources to disprove the Bible. I use them to confirm them.
Is English your second language? The Bible is inspired by God.

If you don't know, just say so. What do you mean by "inspired by God"???
Every thread you posted Matthew 24:37-39 (ESV) when the thread had nothing to do with the Flood Myth.
You haven't given a shred of Biblical proof that the Flood was "myth". So I consider it Satanic lies.
Once again, how did he die, Ducky? If you will be honest for just a minute, you will admit that the specific manner of death is not mention in the verse or any other verse.

It's clear enough for Bible believing Christians Aspen. Why isn't it for you?

You know me well enough to know that I will stick with the Bible, unlike you. My religion is Biblical Christianity. What is yours Aspen? I don't think you know.

I am finished with you Ducky. I have tolerated your slander, evasiveness, pep-rally reasoning and terror-based faith for far too long. I am so done. You have proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are incapable of perspective-taking, empathy, love or forgiveness. Our brief relationship is over. I will pray for you, but I am finished listening to your terrified voice any longer.

If you can't discuss the Bible and Jesus/God without melting down then I suggest you move on to a forum more fitting to your agenda Aspen. There are plenty who will cater to your antiBible agenda. Lord bless.

That's not fair How can you say aspen is anti Bible.
I think aspen knows much more about the Bible than you would would give credit to.
I think it's someone else that may have a problem comprehending how the Bible came to be.

You melt down more than anyone so far. If someone doesn't agree with your doctrine you automatically decide they're against God. You don't seem to have an ability to reason without dispute.

I think maybe you and Aspen need a break. You're both capable of way more than arguing. This is all tiring. You and Aspen both owe yourselves so much more than your rivalry has provided.

Each and everyone of us on this forum should be able to read atleast one thread without you two bulls butting heads.

If you have Scripture to prove your point then you would have jumped in at the appropriate time. So why didn't you?

When it comes to the integrity of the Bible there is no middle ground.

But there is always love! Jesus never gave ground on the truth, but He was always loving, always encouraging people to come to the truth through love. Nothing is ever lost by showing love...in most cases the opposite is the truth!

Jesus and the Apostles were often stern, even in love.

Romans 16:17-18 (NKJV)
17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. 18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

Jesus used the term 'hypocrites' SCATHINGLY.

Those who attack God's Word are not my brothers. They are 'tares' inspired by Satan.
