Yep... part of serving others is holding them accountable... I remember back in the day I was in the bathroom in a club in Newport and Dennis Rodman was next to me and he wanted a piece of candy from the towel guy in the bathroom and he actually had a bodyguard with him that told him no... haha... he actually had a servant that wouldn't allow him to eat candy... thought that was classic...

SORRY I PUT THIS IN THE WRONG SECTION

After becoming Catholic, I realized that, although I was a Christian before, I really lacked a sense of authority in my life. The consequences included problems with people at church, at my job, and in the community.....

Authority is important because it teaches us emotional regulation (keep your mouth shut), delayed gratification (you have to wait for good things), suspending your disbelief (faith), cognitive flexibility (you must be the flexible person sometimes).

Comments?

I cut a lot out of your post simply for the sake of brevity. I disagree with much of the Catholic doctrine and most of it's history. I don't like all their leadership practices nor how they (the Pope's and Cardinals) received such authority. However, one thing I do agree with them on is their need and emphasis on leadership. So, rather than discuss Catholic doctrine and history, I'll just say that you are correct in the overall scope of things that Church's need leadership, and strong leadership at that.

Yes, Christ is the head of Church, but he did leave others in charge after he left: the Apostles. Paul even addressed the notion of people arguing, "I follow, Paul; I follow Apollos; I follow Jesus" in 1 Cor 1-3. Some will argue, "Well, there aren't any apostles today!"; which I don't believe. An apostle is one called by Christ. I do believe such exist today. God gave gifts to SOME men to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. The reason being is also given: For the perfecting of the saints.

The preachers of today who are really God's are working FOR God and his authority. However, God's will for them is to perfect us, the saints. God gave gifts unto men.... This of course is from Eph 4, by the way.... And the gifts were to men who would become apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists and teachers. But the gift was also to the Saints. The gift TO the saints was the apostle. To other saints it was the prophet; to other saints, the Pastor, etc....

So it's nice to see someone else appreciate leadership. Especially in this world and time when everyone wants to be their own Chief. Good show, Aspen!

Thanks FHII,

I appreciate that you chose to focus and clarify the issue of leadership, rather than going off on a tangent on the Catholic Church. I think you added some good ideas to the conversation.

Stoked it's those who serve that have authority and not those who want to be served in the body.. another reason why the Kingdom of God rules... and the world sucks... haha

It seems you left out the key ingredient for leadership, spiritual maturity.
