Well my late dad had dragon-type tattoos on his arms from his youth, and I think a nephew has got some on his arms.
@Dropship Yes, well...it's been a man thing for so many years.

What has developed of late is that it's grown hugely among women. (In North America, apparently 55%-70% or more of tattoo parlor clients are women. Not sure about Britain.....)

@Dropship Heather A above says her tattoo took 5 years in planning, apparently.

Sometimes ppl take a while to pluck up the courage to do it......

(All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have had them done as witness tools....)

Hi @shortangel You clicked you 'liked' the recent comment about the ink shows; so did you ever visit a parlor to see the portfolio tattoo artwork, without obligation?

A lot of designs are faith based.

@shortangel They are very widespread, of course.

...although I work in full time ministry none of my tattoos are visible and I'm not sure I want to get one that can be seen out of the "t shirt line"
@SERVANTedu I guess that placement gives the wearer a lot of choice as regards tattoo visibility.

Arms for example bring the choice of long or short sleeves, depending on how visible.

Like, it would also depend on whether any existing arm tattoos would give space for a further faith based one like the one you described, right?

I guess the issue/solution is wearing long sleeves if one needs to cover them; I saw this quote on mamapedia:

Yes all I gotta do is set up an appointment with someone at this point. Would like a cross openly expressed on my hand, as it will be a sure fire way of being noticed. He is the one we live for, and he is the one whom died for us, the cross is where we go to die to ourselves, being then buried with Christ and raised in Christ to new spiritual life. That is where the journey of a Christian begins.
Hi @MatthewG So is this still a plan of yours to have done? or is it now kind of in abeyance...

I use to mentor during their incarceration, had elected to have quite a number of in prison tats. Not impressed with the mishmash of tats, but do understand a sort of claiming, the prison system controls their body, but doesn’t own it.
@Taken

Yes, interesting reasoning there.....

I saw this quote also:

A lot of nurses have it done. This is undeniable.

In the quote above, perhaps the reasoning you referred to has a comparable reasoning, such as: "We look after other ppl's bodies; and we feel the need to have something special about ours."

Perhaps this explains why such a lot of nursing school classmates all wanted it.

I think individuals get tats for all kinds of reasons, from simply liking, to a bonding with a group, as a tribute to an other, a dare, a reminder of something, etc.

I just never have talked with anyone based on that.
@dhh712 As opposed to talking with someone in those circumstances, have you maybe been caused to think about the content of a faith-related tattoo?

Because all the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed whom I have come across have seemingly done it for witness tool reasons. It can of course be a silent witness, as well as one which actually brings about conversation.

I actually don't recall ever seeing one though I'm sure I have run across them and just have forgotten about it. I'm quite sure it would make me think about the content. I know I've seen a ton of bumper stickers with faith-related messages on them (kind of like a "tattoo" on a car? --but not as permanent, though even tattoos can be removed with what I hear is much trouble). I do think about the messages and if I agree with them or not.

I thought the dragon tattoo-sleeve on her right shoulder and upper arm was very professionally done.

Hi @Lambano

(Thought I would respond here rather than derail the other thread.)

The fact is that today it's ppl who are very conservative and traditional (and not just those who might be described as avant-garde or outlaw types - bikers, etc.) who might be tattooed.

Even though the one you commented on wasn't actually faith based, this quote I saw is rather convincing:

juliannenw said:

I am a nurse in a cardiac ICU. I am also pretty heavily tattooed. I am a well educated, well rounded nurse, and was raised with strong morals and manners. .. I am an extremely traditional person.

Since wholesome tattoos about faith can make ppl think about the content - as @dhh712 says - then it may be something that the most conservative of ppl confidently and quietly will go to the parlor for.

@Taken Well, yes, there may be all kinds of reasons and each person comes individually to being ready. For those who reach the age of 18, the weeks and months and years subsequent to the big 18 seem to mark huge numbers of potential tattooees soon becoming "ready".

All the young people with whom I have spoken with Bible verses tattooed seem to have them done for evangelistic reasons.
