The liberals ask me how the hell are you conservative and don’t believe in god? The conservatives ask me, how the hell do you not believe in God, but aren’t liberal? I get into it with the Christians, the atheists, the liberals, and the conservatives. People say ohhh don’t let labels affect you. Those labels mean a lot. If you are Christian in the fundamental, that massively affects your political stance. And if you are not a Christian, then your political stance on issues will be seen as very unChristian by the typical Christians.

I consider myself spiritual, but not religious. I was raised Christian Orthodox but I never cared to take it seriously.

It’s just funny because I have a lot of Christian values but I never liked the idea of not being my own ultimate authority which I guess allows me to hold many unChristian values at the exact same time. It’s tough. I consider the other alternative of someone like myself to be a liberal Christian…that too is another conundrum.

Can anyone offer any insight into this?

I can advice you to read Edmund Burke, if you want answers for your questions or what you are seeking. Edmund Burke outlines that the ideology of conservatism, has to do with trial and error - the reason one wants to conserve society is because society has gone through the test of time. That doesn’t mean that conservatives are against development, they just want the tempo of changes to slow down, so we don’t change so much in a society, that one can’t see which changes caused which consequences. The ideology’s arguments are fair and doesn’t have anything to do with religion - although the thought might have started in religious societies too (Islamic, Jewish or Christian beliefs).
The issue when discussing conservatism is that everyone could self-identify as a conservative - every human in this world wants to preserve/conserve the good things in society - one can be super conservative living like the Amish or the Saudi Muslims (don’t remember their branch) or they can be mildly conservative like the people we refer to as liberals. Even the most conservative Americans of today would be considered liberals, by their own great great great grandfathers.

In my opinion: Just like some Muslims came up with a political version of Islam, some Christians have done the same with politics (not only in America) but in the whole democratic world. I believe that they have tried to create a stereotype of a Christian voter to shame other Christians into voting a certain way. I also believe that atheists or other non believers use that same argument to shame non Christians in to voting according to the stereotype. I’m a Christian and I don’t consider my self a conservative (in the modern sense) I believe that people should be free to live how they see fit (unless they directly hurt others), practice the religion they want, marry whomever they want, even define as the gender they want.
I really like the speech that former senator Ron Paul gave on the subject during the Republican primary election.
I’m Danish and we unfortunately don’t have a great constitution like the American Constitution - our Democratic freedoms are limited in contrary to the American constitution - I in many way’s don’t believe that the government should micro manage us. Many of the so called liberals, want the government to micro manage, what’s liberal about that?

You should vote according to your personal conviction - if you believe that either party deserves your vote go vote for them. I can’t vote in America, but if I could I wouldn’t vote, I simply don’t believe that I should partake in elections any more. It is my (very conservative belief) that Christians wasn’t supposed to rule as kings but serve the people and preach the gospel, it is my belief that Christians should be as indifferent to earthly governments as Jesus was.
It is in my opinion not conservative for a christian to vote.

Conservative is a nutshell: Keep your hands off of my guns, my money and my freedom.

Liberal is a nutshell: You don't need guns, You have too much money, you have too much freedom. We need to fix that for you. Abortion, Abortion, Abortion!!! ME,ME,ME!!!

Yea, it's best to leave government to the most evil among us. Good thing the FF did not think that way.

But right here it says that government is an institution of God. Pelosi & Biden are God given, they must be venerated and the only reason anyone would not venerate them is because they don’t understand that God works in mysterious ways. According to this verse, I think there should be pews in every governmental institution. Some Christians will pull this verse to justify that government is an institution of God when it behooves them, and without fear of getting told they’re taking it out of context. However when I agree with them except also throw Pelosi & Biden in, all of a sudden I’m the one taking it out of context. The only answer I get is, “Well they aren’t perfect since we are all born in sin.” It’s a bit too convenient for my taste to default to saying we are all born in sin whenever someone or a group does harm to others.

No. Accepting one is under the authority of a civil power is what the Bible verse means. There is nothing about venerating agents of evil in all of Scripture.

For you to write such a thing shows you are attempting to use God's word against him chosen people. I'll pray for you.

@Wrangler has no trust in the lord, he thinks that any action/inaction that leaves it up to God is a bad one.
Beware what you vote, one day you’ll find yourself voting for Barabbas instead of Jesus.

On the other hand, perhaps God wanted to punish America by putting the Dems in power to run America into the ground with their incompetence..;)
Likewise perhaps God wanted to punish Germany for starting WW1, so he put Hitler in power whose incompetence eventually led to the destruction of Germany.

Problem with that is it allows nonchristians to pump out their negative unholy vibes that satan feeds off.
We could even speculate that their bad vibes trigger natural disasters..

the earth is violently shaken...
so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion" (Isaiah ch 25)

Unfortunately I don’t share the same fear as you (of God) since I can’t fear something there’s no evidence for. Whenever a Christian says, “I’ll pray for you”, it’s really a kind way of saying, “screw you” because they don’t have the courage to say it bluntly at the risk of coming off as unChristian. The Jehovah Witnesses for example, also say they will pray for you when you shut the door in their face. And yes, that’s only my own opinion. Perhaps if you placed an actual tiger in front of me, we’d be on the same page.

And what you said about what that verse means is your own interpretation of it like mine and everyone else’s. It clearly says government is established by God. Biden and Pelosi are established by God because both are heads of the government. Of course I’m being facetious on one hand, but on another hand, the verse clearly says, “The authorities that exist have been established by God.” Can’t get anymore fundamental than that.

And to really address the statement you made that what the verse means is “To accept one is under the authority of a civil power”, a great deal of republicans could not accept the election results of 2020, evangelicals included. Even though I am conservative, Trump did lose every lawsuit claiming election fraud and it’s not surprising when the losing side accuses the other of cheating. The evangelicals who claim that the election was stolen, are not accepting that they are under the authority of a civil power.

False. I trust Scripture that says to act, to seek and you will find, to knock and the door will be opened, to ask and it will be given.

No. But I’ve read hundreds of books on this subject and my degree is in science. This is a very informed opinion. Missing out on a thread won’t change any of that.
I don't believe a word you write! There IS evidence to be seen! You just don't want to see it because you'd have responsibility in KNOWING there is more to the universe than this mortal coil and that is too overwhelming to ponder.

Just last month there was a miracle at my church. You are welcome always and you know we love you, brother.

Did you read the thread on Evidence to Be Seen?

Just last month there was a miracle at my church.

The month before my wife experience a miracle.

A few years ago a coworker experienced a miracle.

The evidence is overwhelming. The Bible has a way of describing people like you; you don't have eyes to see or ears to hear. Please read the thread on Evidence to Be Seen. Let me know what you think. If it'd help, I'd be happy to tell you the details of the miracles referenced above.

Christians certainly like and respect God, but we don't "fear" him, why should we?..:)
You list yourself as 'Other Faith', please tell us what it is so we'll know where you're coming from.

You should be reading Romans 1...

Romans 1:18-20a, "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and injustice of those who by their injustice suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. Ever since the creation of the world God’s eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been seen and understood through the things God has made."

It is only in darkness we realize the need for light.

We also know that we aren’t going to prevent what’s to happen anyways. What you are proposing is trying to prevent sin with law, that simply won’t work.
We can’t comprehend the law surely not better than our awesome God. So, what?
-if sinners sin, they are heading the same place regardless. The devil is a bad employer, he let’s his workers sleep in the pig pen and soon they will long for the light. I believe we should trust that God’s word is spread best, not through force, but through fascination. If we want to stop sinners sinning we need to evangelize, show love, give food, share our blessings, be forgiving. One can’t force the heart to fall in love with God, one can however practice the kindness of Jesus - that’s how they’ll recognize the truth, see the light, turn from sin, fall in love and surrender.
Even sinners are victims to the devils lies and we need to use real love and compassion to bait them.

I agree that sinners might cause earthquakes but I’m not to worried about what’s to happen on this earth. God is almighty and forgiving - he won’t, by accident, strike me with an earthquake and if he did it wouldn’t be unreasonable - since he get’s to decide what’s fair.
I depend on his grace and mercy anyways.

Hi @McFearless For some of the themes which you mention, John's First Epistle is a good guide..............
