Yes, there is a new owner and he has introduced himself to the members and explained why he is allowing ads....but would like to be notified of any offensive ads such as astrology, etc.

All of them are Astrology related
If there is an ad that is offensive to you then click on the blue x in the top right corner of the ad and a question will pop up "why this ad?" And give you choices to pick from....offensive, not interested, not relevant and something else....can't remember...but once you do that you will never see another ad with that content.

@Heart2Soul I think there is a difference between whether the ads may be mildly annoying or actually prohibitive to further use of the forums. I don't think they prohibit further use...........
I think it is aimed at each person individually...my ads are related to my Google searches.. so have you had any ads about Sprouts? I just Googled Sprouts about 3 weeks ago.
As the owner stated he had already notified the ad company to remove astrology ads. I think he said he uses AdChoices as the advertisement company and they have a specific logo....
"AdChoices is an industry standard icon that expands to when users move their cursor over the icon. When users click the icon, they go to a page hosted by Google which contains text specified by the IAB, the Ads Settings --where they can control the types of ads (for example, Arts & Entertainment or Travel) they see on the Google Display Network, and to the youronlinechoices page--a guide to online behavioral advertising and online privacy."

"The "Mute This Ad" feature provides users with the ability to close or to stop seeing ads and signal which ads aren’t interesting to them. The feature has benefits for everyone:

Users: Greater control over their ad experiences
Advertisers: No longer pay to show ads to people who aren't interested
Publishers: More relevant ads for users, higher site satisfaction, and greater user engagement

How "Mute This Ad" works
"Mute This Ad" is a small overlay that appears in the top right corner of a creative. It allows a user to specify they no longer want to see an ad, and tries not show the user the same ad, or a similar ad, again. Visual features, advertiser, and ad landing page are all contributors to ad similarity.

To mute an ad, users:

Click or tap x on the ad the user wants to mute.Click or tap Stop seeing this ad.

Optionally indicate a reason for no longer wanting to see the ad. Options include:

Seen this ad multiple times (focused on ad frequency/remarketing)
Ad covered content (focused on page layout / ad rendering behavior)

Ad was inappropriate (focused on potentially inappropriate content)

Not interested in this ad (focused on targeting mismatch and ads personalization)

Already bought this (remarketing)"

So we really do have control of what ads we receive.

@Heart2Soul I actually haven't paid a lot of attention to the ads, although some posters have......

I do find them mildly annoying but not nearly enough to want not to come to this site...............

They don’t bother me at all. :)
They only bother me when I am clicking on something like a thread title and the ad pops up just as I was clicking....frustrating...so I just need to give it a few before clicking.
