@Nancy I think you yourself have likely been convinced for much longer than some on the thread of the medical benefits of inhaling marijuana, right?
Dependency on any pain-numbing drug for any reason is contrary to Christian perspective. Temporary pain relief is one thing. But all these drugs and opioids eventually lead to addiction.

@Heart2Soul who started the thread said that she is considering the matter from within the framework of her doctor's advice. Good to keep doctors' advice in mind.

If the video is watched to the end, it's clear that medical advice can be quite cautionary.

@lightlysalted

I know you prefer just to stick to your menthols, Ziggy.

Do you welcome at all the fact that states have legalized marijuana so that it's available medicinally?
I believe "medically" is just an excuse to legalize getting high in most cases.
In today's world everyone is looking for some kind of escape. Yesterday it was alcohol, today it's marijuana.
Reality can be a hard thing to face.

Oh I agree it can be so, Ziggy..........

I did find this video interesting where a medical doctor - Dr. Sherry Yafai - explains a lot of things, some of them quite cautionary.

@Lizbeth FYI....this thread, started by Heart2Soul, has had a lot of posts lately; instructive to some extent. Any thoughts?
No problem with using plants for medicinal purposes. The "psycho-active" chemical in marijuana can be removed. But using drugs recreationally to get high.....is an ancient pagan practice. Marijuana was used in ancient idol worship. I believe it makes people susceptible in certain ways, spiritually, like being under a spell. The drug addled brains of the hippie generation have lost the plot....they are still singing kumbaya and 'peace man', trusting in the supposed goodness of human nature while corrupt politicians take advantage of their sleepiness.

Commonly prescribed pain killers use opium from poppies, but people need to be careful because it's very addictive. Drug companies have proven themselves not to be trustworthy in reporting their data.....what a tragic thing is going on now with drug addiction being so widespread. It's so true what Jesus said...the love of money is the root of all evil.

Yes, it can be abused, indeed.

This is why I appreciated the video above where Dr. Sherry Yafai gives expertise including some cautionary aspects.

@Lizbeth Another related aspect is that for a long time ill ppl have near to the Mexican and Canadian borders have gone over the border in order to buy their meds for what is sometimes a fraction of what they must pay in the US: this is because pricing is either controlled more strictly in Mexico and Canada or there is more genuine competitiveness.

The whole area of using plant-based alternatives is part of the wider issue, IMHO.

Same here. I really like history documentaries now.

I don't read as much as I used to but I did read a lot of books from Andrew Murray, Luther, and Tozer! Some others. And if I feel discouraged, if it's not prayer or worship, sometimes I'll watch something like 700 Club testimonies and see how God has helped other people. That helps me a lot.
Hi @LadyofFireandLace From back, wasn't it about this time that you referred to when these wholesome influences came to the fore, that you also quit recreational marijuana? (I think you appreciate the idea of marijuana's medical benefits but you quit it recreationally, right?)

There is nothing wrong, IMO, with someone using medicine.

But right and now I'm ashamed of it. That isn't the kind of reputation I want on myself either and I regret doing that stuff when I was younger.

I guess I would now call it "personal progress".

Wasted a lot of time, watched a lot of bad movies, ate too much junk food, didn't get anything positive out of it and deprived myself of reality.
