When Jesus said, “there is none good but one, that is, God.” did He mean nobody could be good?

Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. Mark 10:18

Have you considered what Jesus said, not as a denial of His Deity, but as a form of a question?
In other words.
What if you considered the verse like this...

Let me paraphrase.

"are you calling me God" ???.. ."as you just said that im Good". "is that what you mean, as only GOD is good. ?????, and only God has the Keys to eternal life that you are inquiring about".

Perpetual Belief Alone Salvationism tends to many times justify sin under God’s grace unfortunately. .

Noone who is born again. teaches that sin is justified.
They will teach that its forgiven and redeemed by the Blood of The Lamb.
So, Bible Highlighter, you keep repeating this OSAS lie on this Forum, that you can't even begin to prove.
But you are not interested in trying to prove it, as then you are found out.
All you have to offer is just redundant inane innuendo, posted deceptively, over and over.

Too many people want all of the blessings God has offered while being unable and unwilling to surrender all of their own ways and walking in His Way. They want to be their own head and have thereby constructed a body according to their own specifications.

"...nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt." Matt 26:39

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9

In their blindness they move toward or deeper into the ditch.

Give God the glory!

I agree. Well said.

Well the guy came and called Him good teacher. And Yeshua seemed to take exception to it.
As with the other scriptures, the interpretation is open, so I am not going to criticize.
Some call these "Hard Sayings" The individual scriptures are difficult enough, but they seem to be contradictory to each others.

Some say a person is normal, but normal is a relative term.
The same goes for good....for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Good at the level of God is unachievable by humans, but humans can be good and should strive to be good.
Some interpret these scriptures....like the OSAS group that it is impossible to be good or righteous so there is no reason to try, counting on the Grace of Christ as a license to sin.

Jesus calls Himself the good shepherd.

He says, “I am the good shepherd” (John 10:11).

Speaking of Jesus, Hebrews 7:26 says,

“For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;”

So yes. He is good. You either believe these verses or you don’t believe them.

I think the point here in Jesus' statement was that only God is good. God has taught us what good is and we can do as we are taught to emulate good. And God's spirit is good and within us he is prompting us to behave good. But I'm not sure that means we are good. We can be cleansed of our sins and be innocent as Adam and Eve were innocent before the fall. But were they good? Perhaps not because they fell anyways by choice.

And the fact that we will always need God's spirit to be good indicates that we are innocent and capable of good or evil, when guided by God or the devil.

Hope that helps.

No. I disagree. We can be good but it is only by God’s power or goodness working through us to do good. I believe Jesus is implying that nobody on their own without God can be good. That is what we must conclude when we look at the whole counsel of God’s Word because I provided a list of verses in this thread about how others are called good in the Bible
(See my post #3). To deny this is to deny other Scripture verses at the expense of focusing a laser beam on just a certain set of verses (to conclude the wrong thing).

Are you talking in circles again?
No one is saying that Yeshua is not good....

Isaiah 43:11
I, [even] I, [am] the LORD,
and besides Me [there is] no Savior.

He says there is only one Savior, He Himself
perhaps you should believe Him

Savior: Repeatedly the Scriptures refer to God as Savior. At Isaiah 43:11 God even says: “Besides me there is no savior.” Since Jesus is also referred to as Savior, are God and Jesus the same? Not at all. Titus 1:3, 4 speaks of “God our Savior,” and then of both “God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.” So, both persons are saviors. Jude 25 shows the relationship, saying: “God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (See also Acts 13:23.) At Judges 3:9, the same Hebrew word (moh·shiʹa‛, rendered “savior” or “deliverer”) that is used at Isaiah 43:11 is applied to Othniel, a judge in Israel, but that certainly did not make Othniel Jehovah, did it? A reading of Isaiah 43:1-12 shows that verse 11 means that Jehovah alone was the One who provided salvation, or deliverance, for Israel; that salvation did not come from any of the gods of the surrounding nations.

There is no "osas" group.
There is the cult of OSAS, that you belong to that teaches this lie..... """"it is impossible to be good or righteous so there is no reason to try, counting on the Grace of Christ as a license to sin.""""

You should repent the next time you do it., Grailhunter.

You got that wrong! I think it is somewhere between stupid and blasphemous to think that it is impossible to be good or righteous so there is no reason to try, counting on the Grace of Christ as a license to sin.

They better leave it in their will to pack the barbeque sauce in the casket because they are going to need it.

OSAS is the path to hell!

It'll help you stop sinning and confessing and continue to experience a discipleship that exists above your Flesh and your Carnal Thinking.

I am not going to call you a liar. A lot people misunderstand the scriptures and wish that they could live as they please. Even more do not grasp the Spirit of Christ and Christianity.

Some just want to believe something....and they cherry pick the scriptures to find what supports their beliefs or what comforts them. It is called not seeing the forest for the trees....with your nose in your favorite scriptures....you cannot or do not want to believe the scriptures as whole.

Why do people want to deny the scriptures? More than one reason I am sure. Maybe they want to live a sinful lifestyle and believe they are a Christian and are saved. Maybe they have loved ones that are living a sinful lifestyle and cannot bear the thought of them burning in hell for eternity. Whatever....

Now I know you and all of the OSAS crowd not only know the scriptures that prove you wrong, all of you have been given the scriptures that prove your beliefs are false. But that was just a courtesy because you knew them all along and just ignore them or deny them. A lot of people have told you the truth but you deny the Word of God. There is a curse associated with preaching a different Gospel. Now that curse you may realize in your lifetime. But in the end it could send you to hell.

The bigger sin can be that you lead others to hell and you maybe held accountable for the lose of their souls. How many levels of Hell are there? How many scriptures have they given you that prove you wrong? How many people have tried to reason with you? They have done their part, their conscience is clear. In the end you have earned what you are going to get.

Beliefs, Truths, Facts....Be good and do good.

Amazing how leaving out a word changes the meaning drastically isn't it Post?

Don't add curses to yourself for the sake of denying God.

Be good and do good.

Hell is filled anew with "do gooders' who died and went there today like a bullet.

God does not accept YOUR Good., as you have ZERO., Grailhunter.
He only accepts CHRIST's sinlessness to accept you.

God gives this to any believer, as "the gift of Righteousness".
So, if you die without that Gift of Salvation, you died Damned.

LOL So you think that Christ died on the cross so you could sin all you want?
Do you think Christ will reward sinning?
Do you think that Christ intended to start a religion of sin? The Way was directions on how to sin?
Do you think that heaven will be filled with abortionists, murders, rapists, child molesters, cannibals, homosexuals, sexual sinners, druggies? Do you know that the Bible specifically says that is not going to happen?
What do you think hell is for? Do think hell is for good people? Heaven is for rewarding evil?
Do you think our heavenly reward will be to spend eternity with evildoers and scum?
Will women meet their rapists in heaven and witness their reward?
Will people meet their child molesters and witness their reward?

LOL I am just glad I do not have a religion that has to deny so many scriptures and condone sinning.
Your beliefs are an abomination that God witnesses and will act accordingly.

LOL First and foremost, everyone....notice he did not answer the questions. It is funny what these people do!
The demonrats took the word God out of the Pledge of Allegiance at the Democrat National Convention. You know why? Because they would lose supporters if they acknowledged God.

Of course you would not say it! There is no way you would be honest about it! For the same reason that demonrats do not have cheerleaders outside of abortion clinics. RA! RA! BABIES DEAD! But that is the reality of your beliefs. How it all concludes....people that are against being good, people that are against doing good for others....people that are against the scriptures....people that are against God! Sin and sin some more! God will reward you? Which god are you thinking this reward will come from?
