I would like to share something that came to me tonight, which I took great encouragement from.

The Order of Melchisedec

And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people. And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich: Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion. (Genesis 14:16-24)

A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries. He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.
(Psalms 110:1-7)

For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; (Hebrews 7:1)

Can you see an interesting thread running through these records?

As a side note how does Matt 1:1 look now!

Go and search your e-bibles and find where Melchisedec is mentioned!

What surrounds this Order of Priests?

I do know that they are not an extension of the Levitical priesthood by lineage.

I do know they are centered among the people of all nations so as to be able and intercede for all people as the defiant kings of this earth are dashed.

I am not sure what you are asking.

It also well shows how Christ kingdom comes to "rule thou in the midst of thine enemies".

And that Christ has his full company of willing spiritual soldiers at that time.

Are many sleeping so that day takes them as a thief in the night?

I am not sure what you are asking.

Matthew 24:22 "And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened."

These elect are those priests. And the flesh that is saved through them and with them are the people captured of the nations as these kings are dashed. The people saved of the nations are as great treasure carried out of the nations.

The order of Melchizedek is according to the righteousness of God. The name itself means..."my king of righteousness". So this speaks of Christ. Does it also apply to those who have Christ ruling in their hearts and minds?

Hi Episkopos,

I would argue that Melchizedek is a mortal for many reasons. As such he is a "type" of Christ, but not THE Christ.

Yes Vengle

Your mind and thinking demonstrates the connection.

Why is this "order" of eternal Priesthood surrounded by the slaughtering of Kings?

Gen 14 - Psal 110 - Heb 7 all share the same context.

Why?

But the order is reversed....Christ is on a par with Melchizedek...not the other way around. Jesus goes beyond Moses....but is granted the priesthood of Melchizedek. So Christ is a type of Melchizedek.

Absolutely!

If you read Heb 7 take a look at who Paul is drawing the peoples mind to!

Very powerful lessons held within.

Thank you for sending me deeper into the Word with this post.

We know Jesus Christ is high-priest / King after this order (Heb 6:20; 7:11,17), and the glorified saints will be his immortal associates in it (Rev. 5:9-10).

It appears rather than type and antitype the context of Heb 7 seems to suggest Melchizedek is a Prototype of Jesus Christ the King / Priest.

Gen 14 & Psa 110 & 2 reveals a significant typical prophecy: reigning in Salem, and presiding over a centre of worship established there. The household of Abram (representing the multitudinous Christ) rejoicing in a communal feast in the city of peace, celebrating a victory of faith in the defeat of the northern confederacy (Ezek 38 & Dan 11 & Zech 14).

We must consider the fuction of the Levitical Priesthood to better understood this work.

Hi Episkopos,

I'm not sure what you mean by "the order is reversed". Secondly, I wouldn't agree that Jesus is "on par" with Melchizedek, because Hebrews 7:22 clearly stipulates that Jesus became a "better covenant". But I do agree that where Melchizedek was the shadow, Jesus is the fulfillment.

But my original point was that despite the ignorance of esteemed commentators and pastors, Melchizedek was a man (not a pre-incarnate Jesus). And so we can identify who he was before GOD changed his name. :)

The thought did occur to me that the bread and the wine showed a similarity to the Lord's Evening Meal celebrating the New Covenant and its significance. And yes, I quite agree that this is pictured in the Levitical Priesthood, though it is not a continuation of the Levitical Priesthood but is actually a priesthood of a much higher order. (Hebrews 7:11-12)

Ah yes, but the ensample has been revealed as to what we may be!

The priests were exempt from natural warfare. They were exempt from war in the normal sense, but they pitched about the Tabernacle in a spiritual warfare that guarded it from pollution!!!(Num. 1:47-54).

See example of Gen 14
See example of Psa 110 & 2
See example of Jesus Christ on the Cross!
See example of Christ and the saints in Ezek 38 Dan 11 & Zech 14

The Priest was "To wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation"

The Hebrew renders this as the AV margin: To war the warfare of the tabernacle. . . "See Num. 4:23!

What was Jesus' tabernacle?

Many reading this will not understand how this was fulfilled in the High Priest Jesus Christ but read Heb 5:2 again in this context! Actually read most of Heb 5 where Paul introduces the Order of Melchizedek.

Once again Trinitarians will not be able to comprehend this lesson.

To all Trinitarians:

A Priest Forever

[sup]5[/sup] So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him:

“ You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.”[sup][a][/sup]

[sup]6[/sup] As He also says in another place:

“ You are a priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek”;[sup][b][/sup]

JESUS QUALIFICATION FOR HIGH PRIESTHOOD FOLLOWS!!!

[sup]7[/sup] who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, [sup]8[/sup] though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. [sup]9[/sup] And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, [sup]10[/sup] called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,” [sup]11[/sup] of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

If you have an Old Fashioned AV check the margin!

Num 4:23, 43
Num 8:24

It used of Levites in each case, not the priests... although, it’s hard to see how the principle wouldn't also apply.

Barnes comments:

23. enter in to perform the service] Lit. as in marg. “to war the warfare,” or, as the same phrase in part is rendered, v. 3, “enter into the host to do the work.” The language is military. The service of God is a sacred warfare (Nub 8:24, 25 marg. reading).

The Trinaterian will now struggle to define the conquering High Priest and his fellow priest in this work.

They will not be there in that day Vengle becuase the cannot define how Jesus fulfilled 1 Tim 1:18KJV 1 Tim 1:18NET

Vengle

Notice how at the age of fifty years the Levites retired from active service in their spiritual warfare and engaged in less arduous labour such as that of teaching. In such activity experience was of paramount importance. In their service the Levites foreshadowed the spiritual warfare in which saints are engaged. See 1 Tim. 1:18; 2 Tim. 2:4; 2 Cor. 10:3-5; Eph. 6:12-15.

The type is patterned beautifully if you read the work of the saints in Jer 3:15 after the Jews have been put through the fire of suffering they shall be taught by those who have overcome sins’ s flesh having guarded the tabernacle e of their hearts –

Like their Captain and High Priest. Heb 5:2 Heb 7:27

I wonder if the Trinitarians could see the symbolism of the Levite retiring at 50 which is associated with jubilee... freedom (from sin... symbol of immortality? entering the 'rest') Heb 4:11

Thy Word is Truth O Lord!

We have seen how Abraham and David (Matt 1:1) are examples of the New Order of Priesthood both being confirmed by Oaths and outside of the Law!

But what of Moses?

"And Moses laid up the rods before Yahweh in the tabernacle of witness" Num 17:7NET

How was Moses permitted in the Most Holy where normal Levites were not allowed (Num. 18:2)?

We must read the Bible with care!

This event is rather special dear readers because it once again shows us the New Priestly Order but now Moses is the example and type.

Moses combined the offices of ruler and Melchizedek priest. (he shows here a priesthood not limited by fleshly descent as was the Aaronic — See Psa 110 ).
