Shalom,

I am not suicidal but is it wrong to pray for death so that one could be with the Lord?

Thanks,
Elysian

You do not understand, to pray for death is to ask to be separated from God, "Death where is your sting", death is not Gods plan for you, his plan is eternal life. I have a friend who did just that, prayed for death, and God relented and gave her what she asked and she died. She found herself a lone in darkness, but she somehow felt to cry out to Jesus, and He came, and His light overcame the darkness, and she asked, " why have you not come before", and He said, " because you never cried out to me with your whole heart", and she returned back to her body, and He taught her for years. But if she had not called out, she would be alone, seperated from God and His love, for that is what death is,

In His Love

I think the term is called Passive- Suicidal and it can lead to dangerous thought patterns and behaviors.I would encourage you to seek the Lord about what it is that is causing you to feel this way. Perhaps counseling would be helpful as well. Above all, be safe...God needs your unique talents and gifts here in the earh...live long...finish strong

No. Your body is a Temple pf the Holy Spirit and as it's steward you have to keep it alive and in as good order as possible. Self preservation is your duty no matter how hard life gets. If you ask God to speed up your death then you are throwing life back to him.

However, when a person knows that they are not long for this world and they are in a great deal of pain, it would be sensible to pray to God for a good death. By that I mean all sins confessed (preferably to a priest), recieving the Eucharist on your deathbed and with all affairs dealt with and all emnities put aside. More importantly to facedead (BODILY DEATH) without fear.

Those that do pray for death are not in their right mind since self preservation is natural andself destruction is unnaturalm but it is through their sufferings that they are not in the right mind.

Prayer is sometimes a tool whereby we can straighten out our deeper, inner concerns. Freude saw that the mechanism that God used to bring out these concerns and air them before a caring God was benificial to the patient and to his branch of study, so, honest and open prayer, in the way Jesus taught us, clearly has benefits.

If we want to be aligned with Jesus we should realise we require life and in life we can take his word and prove his accuracy for the benefit of others who often need it more. Following Jesus Christ's accurate word and growing nearer and nearer to his accuracy, upbuilds us spiritually and this spirit, when nurtured as Jesus said, is our inner being that is as like Jesus as we are likely to get...so do it well and enjoy the fruits he offered.

I think praying for death when it is not God's Will is futile. He obviously is not finished with your sanctification or you would be dead. He still needs you here on Earth to love and be loved.

Its not unusual to be dissatisfied in our human condition, I don't think we are intended to be content in the flesh, its why we seek something better.
But as Solomon said, for everything there is a time and purpose. Perhaps God has a purpose for us, a destiny we're unaware of? So its not our place
to pray for death, but to pray for a greater purpose in life. If we have important things to do, we won't have time to die :)

Yeah, but sometimes I just can't help trying to use His chariot as a taxi service home.....
Never hurts to try. He may actually answer me some day !
If you believe, all things are possible.

Thank you folks for caring!

Matt.6:13, "but deliver us from the evil" The "delverance" we continually ask, while it includes rescue from wickedness throughout our lives, really asks for "deliverance" from the entire wicked world by a blessed death.

Paul wrestled with that very question in Phillipeans 1:21-26. It depends why you are asking. Yes this life sucks (even if you have everything you want) and it is understandable. If you are looking for a shortcut, either because your life is terrible or because you are actually enlightened that Hebrews 10:34 promises more, it's still not the plan. Now, in Php 1 Paul desired death because he understood, but he knew his task was not done. Then again, that's Paul the great Apostle! Whom without him Christianity may not exist. However, he also said not to look down at the other members of the body. He was a great apostle and if you are nothing more than a sheep in this modern day, you are still just as important in God's overall plan. He said it was better for him to hang around in the flesh for all the saints and for God's plan. Believe it or not, the same is true with you.

We have a better and more enduring substance waiting for us. But give it time.... God's somewhat of a wise coach, like in the NFL.... He ain't going to start a rookie QB the first year!

Is it wrong to pray for death? Well, it certainly is understandable. The earth is tired and even we -- which have the firstfruits of the spirit are tired (Rom 8).

I'm a bit of a horror movie fan. In the movie "Freddie vs. Jason" Freddie Krueger talks about his life in the flesh and how after he died "then the fun really began." He meant it for harm, but yea... For Christians that's true as well. But wait. There is no verse that says it, but I imagine Jesus was just chomping at the bits to begin his ministry, but he waited some 30 years. Moses did what he did, and then didn't hear from the Lord until he was what? 70? Abraham and Sarah had Issaac at age 100 or so... GOD IS SLOW (I'm speaking as a human). But he shows up when the time is right!

The world's ways are wearying but if it were time to go, would you still be breathing? He gives us every breath we take, so as long as we draw the next one, He has a plan for our presence here. Run the race, fight the fight and look forward to a restful eternity. :)

Definitely not Gods' will that you pray for death to be with Him. I'm sure He is honored you want to be with Him and probably lets out a warm smile at your thoughts.
However..........you were born to live....and since your life is but a vapor...this to shall pass.

Remember joy comes in the morning.

satan loves people who kill themselves...he will bring that thought onto a Christian to get him/her out of the picture.

Most people who have killed themselves...I'm sure if they had just waited one more day...they would be sssssaying....what the heck was I thinkin :)

I agree with everyone's posts above.......You are born for such a time as this :)

Live it up

Not for everyone. Some of His children were made to have it rough from beginning to end, with no relief in sight until they day they pass and are finally with Him.

For those there is no amount of humanly comfort that will suffice.

I've always said if I were suddenly stricken with cancer that I would refuse treatment. The sooner I'm out of here the better.

In fact, many a time I have prayed for God to actually take the cancer away from someone else and give it to me.

So, for most people I think it is wrong to pray for death. But for some, it would be kinder for God to take pity and bring them home. I know I wouldn't mind.

But "the morning" is the day we wake up to eternity with Him, and we can all look forward to that eternity. There is a lot of suffering here, and some of us get more than others but even in this, I believe His plan is for our ultimate blessing if we will respond to that in obedience to Him.

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

And patience, experience; and experience, HOPE

John 17:15-17

15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.[16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them[in the truth; your word is truth.

Jesus didn't pray for the Father to remove us from this world, for this world is our proving ground. This world is the crucible in which Christ makes us into people who are acceptable to God, an act we could not do alone.

Therefore, live your life. Play, work, cry, laugh, bleed, and do it all for the glory of our Father.

There is nothing I want more than to wake from my sleep at the feet of God, and hear him say that I've played the game well. We are made for His pleasure, after all.

If the LORD is not with you now, which I believe He is yet you are not aware of His presence, examine yourself to see if you are in the faith and I believe you will find that Christ has never left you nor has the Spirit fosaken you.
