Shalom, brother,
I agree with you for the most part, especially in the context of bible studies, but you can't approach the pulpit thinking that way (well actually you can, but people will be less inclined to believe you if your preaching is without conviction.)

10. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11

The proclamation of the word is more than just reading it aloud. I also believe that the gospel is worth fighting for (verbally) and that we are called to. Paul was not always kind with those who attacked the doctrines of grace:

11. And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased. 12. I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off! 13. For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Galatians 5:11-13

to quote Stan Lee "'nuff said."
Thank you for the grace you demonstrate in such posts and I pray that we can all do likewise.
Are you sure that you can't approach the pulpit that way? When have you ever known me not to write with conviction in what I believe? But, when push comes to shove, even though I am TOTALLY convinced in what I believe, I must still qualify what I've said with a statement that says, "That's how I see it." The "oracles of God" (Greek: logia Theou) is simply God's Utterance or God's Word. (Logia and logos are related.) Speak WITH God's Word, and you're less likely to be wrong. If one speaks contrary to God's Word (even if he doesn't recognize that he IS speaking contrary to His Word), that one is DOOMED to error. That's why we should ALWAYS qualify what we preach or teach!

People appreciate honesty, and however much a person likes a "firm hand," like a parent admitting to his children that he or she is human and makes mistakes, that same person would respect a pastor who can admit to being human and being capable of making mistakes. Pastors and "Reverends" sometimes practice lording over their congregations to an extreme that is NEVER condoned in Scripture! In fact, a pastor is simply an under shepherd. He is NOT to be regarded as a "father" (despite what the Catholics believe)!

Matthew 23:1-12
1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master (Greek: Didaskalos = Teacher), even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master (Greek: Katheegeetees = Guide), even Christ.
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
KJV

Indeed, the word "minister" means a "waiter" or a "servant." The word "pastor" means a lowly "shepherd." The word "minister" can sometimes come from the Greek word "hupeeretees" which means a "subordinate for rowing a boat." (Strong's says "an under-oarsman.") In all cases, NONE of the positions are to be in the position of something higher on the hierarchy of authority! Yeshua` calls such a belief in a hierarchy of authority the "doctrine of the Nicolaitans," and He did NOT speak of them highly! (Revelation 2:6, 15.)

The only difference that a preacher or teacher might have from others in the congregation is in their gift from the Spirit. If one has the gift of administration or the gift of prophecy or the gift of teaching, they may be in such a position; HOWEVER, they should NEVER think of themselves too highly!

Romans 12:1-13
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
KJV

So, don't fear to reveal yourself human in the pulpit. Your congregation will be better off and you will gain a respect for being honest.

What I was trying to say, is that effective preaching requires belief or conviction in what you say. I haven't heard a pastor yet that hasn't made some mistakes, but my point is simply "why would anyone believe a message, if the one delivering it doesn't seem to believe it himself?"
I realize that God can use anyone to deliver his word e.g.: an Ass saved Balaam's life, but I'm sure that the Ass was convinced that Balaam's life was in immediate danger. Being convinced in what you believe doesn't have anything to do with infallibility, but if the basis of your confidence is in what the Holy Spirit is teaching you through His word, I think that it's best to be in agreement with Him. I'm a little less concerned with being wrong or right, than in being faithful to the scripture and to the message that the Lord has given, especially with regard to the gospel. Our understanding changes throughout our lifetime, and it's unlikely that anyone is going to be 100% correct about anything beyond the "pure milk" of the word (I should hope that a teacher/preacher gets the basics right, though clearly many have a problem with even them.)
Since I'm touching on the last concept, and since I'm a somewhat ignorant goy (with respect to languages), I purchased an electronic copy of a translation by David H. Stern, called the Complete Jewish Bible (or CJB for short) and I was wondering if you were familiar with the version. There is a rather long preface or introduction in which Mr. Stern explains something about translational error due to cultural setting of, and doctrinal belief held by, the translator, which I whole heartedly agree with. However I have no idea if the translation is considered accurate. The version seems a little less poetic than the JPS Tanaach, but I've already seen how the JPS version handles messianic verses (complete with footnote disclaimers about the accuracy of the translation of such passages or terms within them.) I think that Hebrew is too alien for my mind to grasp, so I'm hoping for a reasonable and doctrinally "fair" translation to help broaden my own understanding.

Yes! I love that translation! David Stern has some valuable insights, and attempts to keep the two halves of the Bible, the Tanakh (OT) and the B'rit Chadashah (NT), consistent. There's a few flaws as there are in ANY human attempt at translation, but for the most part, his work is superb!

For instance, it was HIS work, the CJB, that alerted me to the connection between Zechariah 12 and Luke 3!

Zechariah (Z'kharyahu) 12:9-14
9 “When that day comes, I will seek to destroy
all nations attacking Yerushalayim;
10 and I will pour out on the house of David
and on those living in Yerushalayim
a spirit of grace and prayer;
and they will look to me, whom they pierced.”

They will mourn for him
as one mourns for an only son;
they will be in bitterness on his behalf
like the bitterness for a firstborn son.
11 When that day comes, there will be
great mourning in Yerushalayim,
mourning like that for Hadad-Rimmon
in the Megiddo Valley.
12 Then the land will mourn,
each family by itself —
the family of the house of David by itself,
and their wives by themselves;
the family of the house of Natan by itself,
and their wives by themselves;
13 the family of the house of Levi by itself,
and their wives by themselves;
the family of the Shim‘i by itself,
and their wives by themselves;
14 all the remaining families, each by itself,
and their wives by themselves.
CJB

Luke 3:23-38
23 Yeshua was about thirty years old when he began his public ministry. It was supposed that he was a son of Yosef who was of Eli,
24 of Mattat, of Levi, of Malki, of Yannai, of Yosef,
25 of Mattityahu, of Amotz, of Nachum, of Hesli, of Naggai,
26 of Machat, of Mattityahu, of Shim‘i, of Yosef, of Yodah,
27 of Yochanan, of Reisha, of Z’rubavel, of Sh’altiel, of Neri,
28 of Malki, of Addi, of Kosam, of Elmadan, of Er,
29 of Yeshua, of Eli‘ezer, of Yoram, of Mattat, of Levi,
30 of Shim‘on, of Y’hudah, of Yosef, of Yonam, of Elyakim,
31 of Mal’ah, of Manah, of Mattatah, of Natan, of David,
32 of Yishai, of ‘Oved, of Bo‘az, of Salmon, of Nachshon,
33 of Amminadav, of Admin, of Arni, of Hetzron, of Peretz, of Y’hudah,
34 of Ya‘akov, of Yitz’chak, of Avraham, of Terach, of Nachor,
35 of S’rug, of Re‘u, of Peleg, of ‘Ever, of Shelah,
36 of Keinan, of Arpakhshad, of Shem, of Noach, of Lemekh,
37 of Metushelach, of Hanokh, of Yered, of Mahalal’el, of Keinan,
38 of Enosh, of Shet, of Adam, of God.
CJB

Thus, these families are VERTICALLY RELATED in the family tree, not horizontally related! That provides information that the Hebrew reader would have understood that the English reader probably would not have recognized! The families in Zechariah, being vertically related with many generations apart, tells us that the resurrection has already occurred before Zechariah 12 will be fulfilled!

I, too, enjoyed his preface. It was refreshing to hear a person admit to his limitations, and yet, he is an excellent translator. This is what I was talking about above. BE FERVENT, BE ZEALOUS, BE CONFIDENT, SHOW CONVICTION, but also BE HONEST, BE VULNERABLE, and BE TRANSPARENT! God's glory can shine brighter through the one who is transparent.

15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

And He gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

As I said, impossible! You have shown a nice verse, but it has NOTHING to do with Paul's pretrib gathering.

What should a person do if they miss the Rapture?

You will see Jesus on His Throne, as will the Entire Earth. You will watch as He girds His Terrible Swift Sword. You will watch as the Redeemed follow Him, all on Horses, as He rides leading the armies of Heaven to slay the wicked. Terror will fall upon you, & you may cry:"Hide me! Let the Rocks fall upon me & kill me!"...because your time of mercy & repentance has passed. You must await your fate....to be slain...& then the next thing you'll be aware of is the Great White Throne Judgment seat.....where multitudes, along with you, will be cast into a massive burning Sea, Fire Lake....& burn forever & ever!

For then shall be GREAT TRIBULATION, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
THEN if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Behold, I have told you before.

Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be."..................................

"The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."................................

"But in those days, AFTER THAT TRIBULATION, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

And THEN shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory."............................................................

If you're expecting to fly out of here before any trouble comes, you are deceived, & deny the Clear Word of the Lord. This is a fantasy, designed to protect the flesh from realizing the Cross today. If you do not learn to die to yourself, & live to Him today, You will not be prepared to meet Him then.

The argument of Pre-Tribbers usually is "God has not appointed us to Wrath!"...Well, the Great Tribulation upon Christians is not Wrath: It is a testing persecution, to prove who you really worship...Do you love your own life more than Him?

Millions of Christians will suffer, & be beheaded...& thirst & suffer hunger & burning heat, & will weep during this time.

And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which CAME OUT of GREAT TRIBULATION, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.

They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.

For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

THEY WENT INTO THE GREAT TRIBULATION; THEY CAME OUT!

This is me; This is you.....I hope.

The reason that verse is proof against the Pre-Trib Rapture theory is because there Jesus is warning His Church on earth about His coming "as a thief", the same metaphor Apostle Paul used in 1 Thess.5 about the day of Christ's coming and our gathering to Him on the day of The Lord. Christ gave that warning within the 6th Vial timing in preparation for the 7th Vial sounding, showing His coming on the day of The Lord is on the 7th Vial.

WHO is being gatherd here? It is the nations of the world. Remember the ten kings that give their power to the Beast for "one hour?" It is the combined armies of these ten nations: THEY (the armies) are gathered together to face Jesus as He returns on the white horse. OF COURSE they are not told they are gathering to fight against God! Who knows the lie Satan will use to gather them. What you miss here, The BRIDE OF CHRIST will be coming WITH HIM on white horses. They will have just come from the marriage and marriage supper in heaven. They will have been in heaven for over 7 years by this time.

He is indeed warning those on earth of His coming, but it will not be the Bride He is warning; it will be new believers and those left behind at Paul's rapture.

Cheer up! You are only 7 years plus off in your theory!

Tom wrote: "If you're expecting to fly out of here before any trouble comes, you are deceived, & deny the Clear Word of the Lord."

Tom, it is you who have missed the clear teaching of Paul. Paul is the ONLY writer of the New Testament that received the revelation of the rapture of the church. Why then do you try to find it in other places? This groups that "came out of great tribulation" came out of it BEFORE the 70th week even started! Therefore what you suggest is simply impossible. John does not begin the 70th week until the 7th seal, AFTER this huge group, too large to number, is seen in heaven. All John is telling us is that people will be being put to death for their testimony at the time of the rapture.....LONG before (3 1/2 years before) the abomination event that will begin those days of great tribulation Jesus spoke of. Can "tribulation" be any greater than one put to death for his or her testimony? They cannot be killed twice!

You sure did skip quicky past that Rev.16:15 verse. Are you scared to cover its subject Jesus gave us there, and what timing it reveals? I'm not afraid nor ashamed of any part of God's Holy Writ...

Rev 16:12-18
12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.
14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
15
Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

All of that above Scripture is 6th Vial timing. The verse in bold red is specifically a warning... to His Church on earth of His coming. Jesus has NOT come to gather His Church at that point.

It even includes the warning Apostles Paul and Peter gave about the Day of The LORD with Jesus' coming "as a thief" (1 Thess.5; 2 Pet.3:10). Now since Jesus gave that WITHIN the 6th Vial timing, what does your common sense ability to reason tell you WHO it is to?

If you say it's for the wicked then you make out Christ's Church to be a receiver of abominations at His coming. If you say it is about believing Jews only, then you have wrongly separated Christ's Body which Jesus and His Apostles never did.

16 And He gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

This verse is still 6th Vial timing too, and it is... about a gathering of the wicked around Jerusalem in prep for God pouring out His cup of wrath on them on what... day? On the Day of The LORD of hosts. That day is not yet at this point though. It happens next...

17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
(KJV)

Here's the 7th Vial being poured out. THIS is the Day of the LORD timing per the OT prophets and per Christ and His Apostles. THIS is the day of the gathering of His Church, and the ending of the false one's reign on this earth, with all the kingdoms of this world becoming those of The Father and His Christ (7th Trumpet timing of Rev.11).
