From: Our Daily Bread Booklet for June – July – August 2007August 4, SaturdayBy: David McCasland What Do You Believe?Francis Collins earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry at Yale University and then entered medical school. During his training at a North Carolina hospital, a dying woman often talked to him about her faith in Christ. He rejected the existence of God, but he couldn’t ignore the woman’s serenity. On day she asked, “What do you believe?” Caught off guard, Collins’ face turned read as he stammered, “I’m not really sure.” A few days later the woman died.Curious and uneasy, the young doctor realized that he had rejected God without adequately examining the evidence. He began to read the Bible and the writings of C. S. Lewis. A year later he fell to his knees and gave his life to Jesus Christ. The catalyst? A sincere question from an elderly woman whose physical heart was failing but whose concern for others was strong. In a prophetic picture of the Messiah, Isaiah 50:4 says, “The Lord God has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary.”May we be ready with a timely word or a caring question to point others toward our Savior who offers life and peace to all.

Great post AlphabetI actually had a experience this remined me of, not quite as dramatic as this one.I had to go to the hospital for some tests, I was sitting in the waiting room which was good sized maybe 20 seats and it was almost empty I was sitting in the far corner away from the door. This attractive woman and her husband entered the room her husband sat in chair by the door she registered and instead of sitting near her husband she crossed the room passed all the empty chairs and sat down next me. After a second she leaned over and asked me if her hair looked OK I said it looked really nice she said oh thankyou I have cancer and lost all my hair and today is the first time I have gone out in a wig I feel very self concious. I told her I was sorry to hear that. I had lost a husband to cancer and knew what that disease can do to you. She just started bombarding me with questions. turns out she was so concerned about how her husband and children were going to handle her death she had been praying for God to show her how to help them deal and to let her know if they would be OK. We had a cup of coffee together after our tests and talked for an hour she thanked me for easing her mind and helping her understand what to prepare them for I prayed with her before left. I thought how wonderful that God had sent two strangers to a hospital at the same time so I could help this wonderful lady feel a little better. I prayed for a solid week for her healing. But the story doesnt quite end there .About ten days later I got put into the hospital for an irregular heartbeatI was lying there in my room and an elderly lady walked in and introduced herself as a hospital spiritual volunteer counselor and asked me if I would like to talk or have her pray for me. I told her yes I would love to talk to her and pray with her. We talked for a minute and I related the story of meeting the woman in the waiting room. She suddenly began to cry she told me she had decided that very morning she was going to quit this volunteer Job because no one wanted to hear about God any more and it had become to depressing for her. She said your story has reminded me why I do this it does not matter if 100 people do not want to hear its the one like your lady in the waiting room that matters she thanked me for reminding her of this and said she was not quiting her job. We prayed for her for me and the lady in the waiting room. Whom I trust God healed if not physically spiritually. I turned out to be fine but how wonderful God put me where he needed me. twice in less than two weeks.

The thing I found so great about this was I did nothing but show up for an appointment and run my mouth it was all God who put me there and controlled the situation. He took my tragedy to use it to answer the prayers of a sick woman and just used me as go between to use the sick ladies story to answer the voluteers prayersPraise be to him

It's true that you did nothing physically Kriss, but to talk and pray to help...but you did something spiritually and that's what matters.Lovest thou in Christ Jesus (Yahshua) our Lord and Saviour.
