1 Corinthians 12:8-11

For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He

I have never had a "laying of hands" per say, although as a youth I once answered an altar call at a charismatic church. Something told me, "Go up there and put your hand on his back." I sometimes wish I could have this event, the 'laying of hands", but I feel I already have the HolySpirit.

I will be honest, I want all these gifts. No, not for me and my purpose, but for Him and His. I believe all in proper season, I will receive exactly what is needed. Oh, but don't hold back. I want to heal amputees. I want wisdom like Solomon. I want tongues like Paul, and miracles like Jesus. But I know I have been given one of these gifts, some may call it a lowly gift, but I say nay, it is a gift of great prestige, I have the gift of faith.

What is your gifts?

In the love of Christ

It is wonderful that you desire the gifts of the Holy spirit but you shall be judged by God according to your fruit! Utilize the gifts of the Holy Spirit 1. Under the direction of God, 2. Motivated by the Love of Christ, 3. by the inspiration and auspicies of the Holy Spirit, 4. In order with the leadership of the House( church), 5. Where it edifies the church and not the gifted. And also remember that God will not operate out of order with His word and the vision He has given to your godly Leaders above you!

i am to operate in the gifts of faith to start out with. where it will go from there i have no idea. i have commanded in the name of Jesus for arms to be grown out, sicknesses healed, legs grown out(did you know God can make you taller or shorter), Backs healed, glory dust appear(also known as gold dust), i have seen much more then i have actually done. i will do and see things greater then even Jesus did while he was on earth. i am not boasting in case you people think that. i have seen what God has me doing in visions of what is to come. let me just say that they are nothing short of miraculous. i wish everyone getsthe best of what God has for you all. but according to scripture i know that won't happen because many will choose a different path then God's best.

Actually 7angels physical healing is the fruit of the spiritual gift of healing. I think it is great that you are looking to God and seeking the spiritual gifts. I encourage you to allow HolySpirit to spiritually mature you inwardly.Don't make the same mistake as others who have built up ministries around themselves and their special gifts before they were matured.

The list of gifts in scripture is not exhaustive nor exclusive nor permanent.

1 Cor 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spirital gifts.
One is not restricted to just one or two but just go ahead and pray for others. As long as they are used for the glory of God.

Corinthians speaks of the gifts (plural) but when we do a word search on 'gift' singular we find something very interesting.

Joh 4:10

Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

Act 10:45

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Rom 5:15

But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

Rom 5:16

And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

Eph 2:8

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Rom 6:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Act 10:44

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Act 10:45

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 10:46

For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Act 10:47

Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

Act 10:48

And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

The gift here is 'eternal life' to those that believe.

Yes I agree, but this type of discernment is not to be confused with the spiritual gift of discerning of spirits.

I had assumed this meant being able to tell the motives behind someone's actions or words to see if they were from God, and therefore truthful. Then I heard from one of the Pentecostal types that the gift of discerning of spirits is the ability to see manifestations of spiritual beings, such as angels or demons. Can anyone confirm this?

It can be confirmed they said what was claimed. However, what they said is not confirmed by either scripture or practice.

My gift, as how you restated it, is accurate. Spiritual Gifts aren't all hokus-pokus and raz-ma-taz with a little of badabing-bang-BOOM thrown in. Sometimes they take work, study, and practice to become proficient in handling them.

Any Tom, Dick, or Benny can stand on a stage, mumbling and babbling incoherently, wave their arms and have hundreds of will weakened watchers fall backwards shivering and shaking all the while claiming it to be a work of the Holy Spirit. Those men and women spend hours and hours practicing and rehearsing, not the Gospel, but their performance, diction, delivery, and marketing.

Now here is the clincher... does my Spiritual Gift work everytime I exercise it? No, because I am a weak and flawed vessel. That is why we all must work at it, study the Scripture, pray, and seek Godly council from those who have mastered their gifts.

We have ALL received a special Spiritual Gift at conversion. We have not all received the same Gift, nor the same proficiency in using that Gift. The term is "born again" for a reason. We are infants in Christ, and like infants, we need time to grow, mature, make mistakes, and be encouraged by those who love us in Christ.

Can I get an "Amen"?

I would like to see the scriptures quoted that support your post here.

The list of gifts in scripture is not exhaustive nor exclusive nor permanent.

----------You know I'm right.

Care to elaborate and list tall the spiritual gifts and which are no longer being given? Please quote the scriptures that lend support to your statements.

We need to understand that there are manifestations of the Holy Spirit, and gifts of the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor 12:4-11 shows what spiritual manifestations and gifts are. Verse 28 shows the different offices God has given to the church.
There is NO indication what-so-ever in the scriptures, that any of the above were time limited. They are gifts and manifestations, they are given, NOT loaned. Romans 11:29; For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

Nice reply Stan
To everyone
I'm not going to teach a whole sermon but I'll make a couple of points. No where in scripture is the "list" of gifts the same.
Each is given 1 Peter 4:10
Lastly all of the gifts are available and more than those listed to those who are now brothers who are no longer called the sheep of his hand but to whom He calls His Brethren.

Lastly If the gospel is to be heard threw out the whole earth, it must be heard from those that know the truth. Sheep are not called to teach but to continue the race that you may be made complete, no longer being the sheep of His hand but being firmly connected to the head then becoming LIKE Christ. Then you may go and plant and sow raising up the sheep by teaching just as you were raised so raise up one another. AMen and be at the task at hand.

Hebrews 6

New King James Version (NKJV)
The Peril of Not Progressing

6 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, [sup]2 [/sup]of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. [sup]3 [/sup]And this we will[sup][a][/sup] do if God permits.

If you ONLY feel that you have the Holy Spirit, Then you can't be baptised in the Holy Ghost, If you were, You would most definately know it.
In every Biblical accout of people being baptised in the Holy Ghost, They spoke in tongues, As Jesus said we would, Mk 16: 17..

If you are born again,You can receive the baptism in the Holy Ghost right now, BY FAITH. You don't have to wait for Him.
To many people are waiting for God to baptise them in the Holy Ghost, And they take Act 1: 4--5, And are waiting for the promise.
But the promise was given on the day of pentecost, Acts 2: 4.
Notice, THEY SPOKE, As the Spirit gave them the utterance, God will give you the utterance, It might just be one sylible, But you speak it out IN FAITH, And you'll be baptised in the wonderful Holy Ghost.

The gifts of the Spirit will be manifested in a powerful way as God needs them to work. But we are to seek after one of the gifts, And once we have them, We have to stir them up. 2 Tim 1: 6.
And not neglect them, And give ourselve wholly to them. 1 Tim 4: 14--15.

Allow me to weigh in on this subject.
The three main categories (List) of Gifts are found in Romans 12, Ephesians 4 and 1Corinthians 12. Each set of Gifts have been given by a member of the Godhead.
The Father gave the gifts found in Romans 12. Read the context preamble the list of these gifts. God is mentioned 4 times in 5 verses.
The Son gave the Gifts of Ephesians 4 to the Church for 7 reasons:
  1. For the perfecting of the saints
  2. for the work of the ministry
  3. for the edifying of the body of Christ
  4. Till we all come in the unity of the faith
  5. and of the knowledge of the Son of God
  6. unto a perfect man
  7. unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ
The Spirit gave the Gifts of 1Cor. 12

This is confirmed by scripture itself in verses 4, 5, and 6 of 1Cor. 12.
“4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which works all in all”

Here we see the Trinity as the giver of gifts.

What is amazing is that the 7 gifts of Romans 12, given by the Father, are innate and present in every human who walked on this terrestrial ball. (From verse 6 “God who works ALL in ALL”)
Everyone can exercise these gifts in one degree or another as in exhort, teach, rule, proclaim, etc. That’s why they are called Operations. We operate in these daily, whether we are Christian or not. The difference is that the unregenerate will use these gifts for himself while the Christian is meant to use them for God’s Glory and the betterment of the church and a hurting world.

You will note that although we have been given all 7 gifts, we tend to have one in particular that is predominant in nature. That dominant gift is exercised with great ease and is usually noticed by others.

Prophecy (Proclaim, perceive) “He has the gift of gab”, “He can talk the hind legs of a donkey”
Teaching “His head is always in the clouds”
Serving “There’s nothing he wouldn’t do”
Giving “He’ll give you the shirt of his back”
Ruling “He’s a born leader”
Exhorting “There’s not a negative bone in his body”
Showing Mercy “She wears her heart on her sleeve”

So if anyone is wondering what gift they may have, well, we all start out with 7. The 5 gifts of administration of Ephesians 4 are actually callings for the church and not for everyone. Those who have heard the “Call” know what I’m talking about.
The 9 gifts of 1Corinthians 12 are actually called “manifestations” (verse 7). They can be given to any Christian but are done so at the will of the Holy Spirit.
The gift of faith is a supernatural faith and not to be confused with salvific faith or sustaining faith.
