The EU's Javier Solana - one smooth end times operatorby Michael G. Mickey(8-30-05)Shortly after I placed one of my recent commentaries online concerning the European Union's current and ever-growing role in pursuing peace in the Middle East, I received an e-mail from someone who wanted to know what I was implying in making so many references to the European Union's foreign policy chief, Doctor Javier Solana, in the commentary. While the obvious answer to his question is I refer to him so much because he is the European Union's High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, I was struck by how utterly impossible it was, in the opinion of this reader, that a man like Solana could even possibly be considered to be a candidate to be revealed as the Antichrist in the prophetic future. Solana, according to the author of the e-mail, wasn't young, charming, or handsome enough to become the ultimate embodiment of human evil and the world's final global dictator leading up to the return of Jesus Christ.Solana, from this individual's perspective, is nothing but a has-been in international diplomacy - a man on his way out. Respectfully, I disagreed with that person's opinion in several follow-up e-mails wherein I addressed what I believe are some misperceptions many people have, both concerning the persona and appearance of the prophesied Antichrist, as well as the the diplomatic prowess of the revived Roman empire's current foreign policy chief, Javier Solana.Where did we get the idea that, when the Antichrist is ultimately revealed in the prophetic future, he will be found to be young, handsome, and exceedingly charming? The only Scriptures I can think of that possibly describe the physical appearance of the Antichrist is Daniel 7:20, which states his look will be "more stout" (or great) than his fellows, and Daniel 8:23, which refers to him as a "king of fierce countenance." Neither of these Scriptures lead me to think he will be a handsome young lad, but they do, on the other hand, lead me to believe he will be tenacious and very politically ambitious, even power hungry. What conclusions can we reach concerning the persona and appearance of the Antichrist, based on Bible prophecy? The prophesied Antichrist:*will be an intellectual capable of speaking great words (Daniel 7:20, Revelation 13:5).* will look more stout (or great) than his fellows (Daniel 7:20, Daniel 8:23).* will be a military genius (Daniel 8:24, Revelation 13:7).* will be an economic genius (Daniel 8:25).* will be a tactful diplomat capable of gathering many people to unite in action alongside him (Daniel 9:27).* will, ironically, be seen as a peacemaker initially (Daniel 8:25, Daniel 9:27).* will be exceedingly arrogant and self-worshipping, whether it seems so initially or not (Daniel 8:25, 2nd Thessalonians 2:4).* will despise both judens and Christians, which will not, in all likelihood, be apparent initially (Revelation 13:7, Zechariah 13:8-9, Revelation 12:17).Now, concerning the person of Javier Solana, could he, in theory, meet the criteria to be revealed as the Antichrist in the prophetic future? Sure! He's a former head of NATO and current head of the European Union's ten-nation military alliance, an intellectual who holds a doctorate in solid-state physics, an economics genius as demonstrated by his contributions to the World Economic Forum and numerous trade agreements he's played a prominent role in implementing on behalf of the EU, as well as a foreign policy expert in acting out his current role as the EU's High Representative. And what of Solana's personal diplomatic and communication skills? They're amazing, as I'm about to demonstrate.Referring back to the e-mail debate I had with a reader of my site concerning Solana as a potential candidate for the role of Antichrist for a moment before moving forward to address Solana's personal diplomatic and communication skills, the reader who e-mailed me stated one of the reasons Solana, in his opinion, could never be revealed to be the Antichrist is no one in Israel trusts him - a comment I said was baseless, offending my brother in Christ somewhat I fear, although that wasn't my intention. We know the Europeans and Solana are trusted by the Palestinians, but is Solana trusted by the Israeli government of Ariel Sharon? I believe I'm about to shock many people when I say this, but he absolutely is, as explicitly demonstrated by the following excerpt from a Haaretz article (emphasis added mine):Solana is one of the few foreign statesmen who really knows the Israeli political and security establishments. When he visits here, his schedule is always fully booked with meetings, interviews and informal conversations. Officials at Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's bureau consider him a key liaison to the international community - a man with great influence in the Palestinian Authority and great sensitivity for Israel's problems. Sharon's adviser, Dov Weissglas, frequently speaks to him by phone, bringing him into the picture during crises. As I've been reporting, Javier Solana - a trusted diplomatic representative of the revived Roman empire of Bible prophecy - is wrapping up, as I write this commentary, a three-day visit to the Middle East during which he discussed the possibility of the EU playing a larger role in Middle East peacemaking efforts. Although I have no idea who will ultimately be revealed to be the Antichrist, I'll tell you this and you can take it to the bank: If we're nearing the advent of the Antichrist and he is actively seeking a means through which to rise to greater power than any world leader ever has before, the European Union's Javier Solana is currently paving the way for him to make his rise to the top of the diplomatic world through the confirmation of a seven-year covenant of peace in the Middle East by actively and, apparently, successfully advocating the Palestinians and Israelis to allow the EU to play a larger role in Middle East peacemaking than it ever has before while acting as a member of the international Quartet of Russia, the United States, the United Nations, and the European Union. Before people start writing me accusing me of pinning the tail on the Antichrist so to speak, let me state, once again, that neither I nor anyone else, not even Satan himself, knows at this present hour who the Antichrist is going to ultimately be revealed to be. For all I know, Javier Solana may be on his knees in prayer accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior right this very moment!Only God knows the answer to the question of who is going to be revealed as the Antichrist in the prophetic future and He isn't going to make that individual known to anyone this side of the Rapture of the Church, other than in theory. Why? Because the prophesied son of perdition, if he is alive in our world today (and I highly suspect he is), is being restrained from being empowered by Satan to assume the role Bible prophecy tells us he ultimately will when he confirms a seven-year covenant of peace in the Middle East. What is restraining the prophesied Antichrist from assuming his end times role, assuming he is alive and politically active at this juncture in human history? Many arguments have been made as to what or who the restrainer is, as seen in 2nd Thessalonians 2:6-7:And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.The restrainer is both referred to in an impersonal manner (what witholdeth) and in a personal manner (he in two sections of 2nd Thessalonians 2:7). What or who is the restrainer that keeps the Antichrist held back? I believe the what is the Holy Spirit-filled body of believers in Christ - the Church. I believe the he is the Holy Spirit Himself who empowers the Church to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.Salt prevents spoilage and light dispels darkness, but, when the Rapture of the Church takes place, a split second of time is going to come when the world will not have even one born-again, Holy Spirit-filled Christian on the face of the earth empowered and compelled to resist the darkness of these end times. Much as darkness overtakes a room when light is removed from it, a split second of time is all it will take for Satan to seize the opportunity given him to empower the Antichrist and a small window of opportunity to posture key followers of his to assume positions of influence around the globe, setting into motion the seven-year period Tribulation Period, the culmination of which will be the triumphant return of Jesus Christ and all the saints to the earth at Armageddon. In closing, there is no reason to believe anyone involved in EU diplomacy, regardless of their age, appearance, charm or name recognition couldn't be the person ultimately chosen to become the Antichrist if the Rapture of the Church should take place today. God may allow Satan to empower Solana to be the Antichrist, someone else from among Europe's well-known leaders, or someone whose diplomatic career is presently unknown to the vast majority of the world. Although we have no idea, aside from speculation, who that individual is ultimately going to be, the EU's Javier Solana is, without a doubt, a smooth end times operator - a major diplomatic mover and shaker who I believe we can be certain is, at the very least, posturing the European Union for a leader from within its ranks to fulfill Daniel 9:27 in the prophetic and, potentially, near future.Keep looking up!
