Well, I'm gonna probably seem way out in left field, but i can't keep quiet. I experienced the presence of the Lord in the most powerful way I ever have tonight at a church i visited. It was one of those line em up and lay hands on you type churches.. But i got knocked down by God and the guy didn't lay a finger on me. When I got up, I had trouble walking as if i was wobbly from drinking alcohol but better! I felt the presence of the Lord real heavy during worship. I was crying out to the Lord for more of Him and let Him know I wasnt satisfied with my current relationship with him because I want more and I want to go deeper. God was all over me while I was waiting in line.. i was already literally slightly trembling because God's presence was so heavy there before the guy even got to me. Now that I seem way off in left field, I will attempt to provide a biblical premise for what happened, and let you guys and the Holy spirit inside of you be the judge. Before I show you verses on ushering in the presence of God, I am shocked that noone here mentioned the baptism of the Holy spirit to wakka. This is something that everyone has preconcieved notions of, but explain these verses away if you can. There is something that is like adding turbo boosters to your walk with God that you are missing out on if you havent experienced. It's referred to as the "baptism of the holy spirit" by the pentecostal, charismatic, word of faith denominations although I dont call myself either of those. But i'm telling you, it works and its outlined blatently in the bible. Acts 8:14-19 14When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. 15When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into[c] the name of the Lord Jesus. 17Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money 19and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." ok. Notice how these people recieved the Holy Spirit after they were already saved. Notice they recieved it through the apostles laying hands on them.Acts 9:17So Ananias left and went into the house. And he laid his hands on Saul and said, Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, Who appeared to you along the way by which you came here, has sent me that you may recover your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.I think it was safe to assume that Paul was already saved from literally having Jesus speak to him on that road. Notice also that Ananias laid his hands on him to recieve the Holy Spirit.Acts 19:1-6While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when[a] you believed?" They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?" "John's baptism," they replied. Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus." On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues[c] and prophesied.Again, they were just saved and afterwards Paul laid his hands on them and they recieved the Holy Spirit. The only times you see the Holy Spirit being poured out on people without the laying on of hands was on the day of pentecost, and when the Holy spirit first fell on the gentiles from Peter's preaching in Acts 10:44.. Those were both pretty special events and seperate from normal Holy spirit baptismal through the laying on of hands in my opinionI had a little mini book by Keneth Hagen that seemed to have allot more scriputres than I could find and showed all the cases of the baptism of the holy spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Although every case where the baptism of the holy spirit shown does not show them speaking in tongues everytime, the verses I read in his mini book gave me the faith I needed to be baptised in the holy spirit, and speak in tongues immediatelly afterwards. In the praying in tongues thread that was debated on here, i mentioned the distinction between speaking in tongues as a personal prayer language and the "gift of tongues" that is used in christian assembly where an interpreter is required. The bible does not show every case of holy spirit baptism with the evidence of speaking in tongues, but everyone I know who recieved the holy spirit this way speaks in tongues as a result of following that teaching that was circulating through the years.. whether it was just faith that manifested speaking in tongues, or if it is a set evidence immediatelly after holy spirit baptism is unknown by me.. sorry for the tangent on tongues by the way. I'm gonna post this and dig up scripture for ushering in the tangible presence of God tomorrow and also attempting to explain what exactly happened to me in my opening paragraph with scripture. I think it is best to see the reactions on this post first. I also want to add that I dont believe that baptism of the Holy Spirit is required to experience what happened to me in my opening paragraph but the two are so closelly related because it involves the ability to recieve everything God has for you. He can only give you what you can recieve. Preconcieved notions and fears of seeming weird to peers can limit Gods ability to pour himself out to you in a way that you might never have experienced before and I think that is the answer to Wakkas question.
