Proverbs 16:18, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Too often this scripture is misquoted by well meaning Christians. They say, "Pride goes before a fall." WRONG! Pride goes before DESTRUCTION. Pride and haughtiness are both sin and very similar, however it is of utmost importance that we understand the difference. Haughtiness - being vain to the point of excessive and unpleasant self-important; thinks more highly of itself than it ought to; thinks it is something it is not; self-centered. Pride - indulging in self glory; full of independence of spirit; exalts itself above God; lifts itself up at the expense of others; puts others down to make itself look good. :cross: Think about this . . . Pride brings destruction; haughtiness brings a fall. Both are sin, but only one is final. When we fall we have a choice to get up or stay down. When we are destroyed we no longer have a choice; we stay down. We can get up from a fall, repent and be reconciled to God. But, what chance of reconciliation do we have if we are destroyed? Comparison . . . Pride lifts itself up at the expense of others; by putting them down and making them look bad so it can look good. This brings destruction, elimination and annihilation. Pride destroys itself by eliminating the importance of others. It brings positive attention to itself while bringing negative attention to others. Haughtiness brings positive attention to itself while not giving a second thought to anyone else, because it wants all the attention. What does this have to do with faith? Everything! When we walk in haughtiness or pride faith is not operating in our heart. We are not trusting God for anything. We are only trusting in our own abilities.

Proverbs 16:18 (King James Version)18.Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.Galatians 5:15-26 (King James Version) 15.But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 16.This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17.For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18.But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19.Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20.Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21.Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22.But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23.Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24.And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25.If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26.Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.[/COLOR]Either you have died with Christ or you are still in the flesh and not living in the Spirit. Pride and haughtiness cannot be found where the Spirit dwells. But power and speaking with authority can, and one must not confuse the power of the Spirit in enabling someone to use the gifts he has given them.If we believe the worst of others who are Christian brethren is this flesh or Spirit. Love is the basis of all we do, love for God and one another. If we have died with Christ then we are selfless and seeking only the truth and will of God in our lives. If we believe a person to be born in Christ, then we must never assume to accuse or think there is pride or haughtiness in a brother. Isaiah 54:17. (King James Version) 17.No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.We need to remember that no one is the Lord puts themselves first nor considers themselves greater than anyone else. And we must not be envious of the gifts of others, for we are one body where the gifts are used for the greater good of all. We need every part of the body to work together for it to be complete. If we chose to judge our brothers we judge the law. James 4:11-12 (King James Version)11.Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.12.There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? I am glad you did this topic ((Alphabet)) because we need now more than ever to be encouraging each other with the truth and loving each other and supporting the gifts each of us have. Some people made afraid because Satan uses these very things to stop people by self doubt and fear of what others will say, to share what they have received. But the truth is if we believe someone is reborn in Christ born of Spirit and truth, could they really do pride and haughtiness.I believe the love of Christ makes us selfless not self-centred and pride and haughtiness belongs to the latter group.

Yes, we must encourage one another. Focus on the positive in others; not the negative.
