Everyone seems to enjoy bashing on candidates for the office of President. It is funny, my parents love to complain about how horrible Obama is as President; they claim to be conservative, yet ironically, they hate all conservative Presidents from the past, as well. Because of their fatalism regarding politics, they are impossible to reason with.

So are you just a fatalist? Or do you actually believe that we can elect a decent person who represents your values and does not sell out to special interests groups?

Even if the answer is no - I am still interested in what your ideal image of a President is.

It is not so much having the "ideal" president, but the "ideal" government.

Many older Americans can see the changes just in their life time, that our US government is moving in the socialist direction of government. Many Americans believe our government has become our "nanny", telling us how they can take better care of us than we can.

Another group of Americans believe our government is no longer blessed by God, and want nothing to do with the evil politics of this world. We are in the end times, all the nations are gathering and planing to create a one world government. The US and UN have become nations of war, we have become part of the world police

as for me, I believe the Lord told me to come out from the world, to have no part in this up coming election. God will place the future president to fulfill His glorious plan, but every pres. from here out, will be serving Satan.

pray and ask God what He wants you to do. Is it time to have no part of this evil system?

There is no, and never has been an "ideal" President of the United States of America.

From my point of view I would favor one type of leader, another point of view woulld favor someone else with different sensibilities.

In America the saying is true, "We deserve the President we elect."

What did you like about Ronald Reagan?
.

Didn't at first (because of the actor thing) but when you look back he was a decisive leader who wanted to do right , even when not politically correct.

He valued personal freedoms and personal responsibility and less government.

He liked to say .... "Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem"

Nearly everybody would agree that today's problems in America are mostly because of government , not the people, the people are great.

Where are we going to find an honest and decent politician? I'm not sure such a thing exists. My ideal president would be one who is born again and lives like it, and that's not going to happen any time soon--if ever.

Sadly , you are probably correct

But I sometimes blame the voter too .... a truly honest politician would not likely get elected .... too many voters believe the empty promises.

Ron Paul is an example of someone who appears decent.

Hate to say it, but Jimmy Carter was probably the most decent human being to ever take office and he was a terrible President.

I agree , I really like the man , but not as President.

Another couple of points I liked about Ronald Reagan. He was instrumental in ending the cold war with Russia , he could see Russia was spending nearly all their money on the military , not enough on the people and food , and going broke.

Reagan made the brash announcement that he was going to increase US military spending and started the Star Wars program ..... knowing Russia would realize they could not keep up , and the only out for them was to let down the iron curtain and allow some freedoms and democracy. It worked.

Same as when he found out Mohmar Kadaffi of Libya was responsible for some terrorist bombings against the US .... Reagan sent jets to the desert and bombed Kadaffis tent to oblivion. Luck for Kadaffi he was in a different tent. But from then on not one more speck of trouble from Libya.

By the way , they had implanted a transmitting radio chip behind the ear of Kadaffi's personal secretary (got him drunk) .... that way they knew where Kadaffi was at all times. The secretary was in the bombed out tent , and Kadaffi happened to be farther away and lived.

The ideal president would be one who follows the contitution...if this were done many of our problems which are for the most part self inflicted would disappear...the other thing that would be nice would be a president and government that puts America first...regardless of what one thinks of the leaders of places like China and Russia it is plain to see that they are all about their own country while we have a government from the president on down who is just as much if not more concerned with other countries as they are with America.

This produces the insanity of borrowing money to give away, the insanity of using American tax dollars to develop industry in other countries to provide jobs for their people instead of our own,the insanity of allowing other countries to sell their goods here while restricting sale of our products there, the insanity of allowing millions of people to come here and bankrupt our social services on the pretext of compassion or that we are a nation of immigrants...every nation to some extent is a nation of immigrants since people have migrated to different parts of the world since time bagan, and if we were a nation of compassion we would not have slaughtered millions of unborn children and bombed countless millions in wars we had no business being involved in...we are not a nation of compassion,we are a nation of conveinent emotional responses and manipulations and leaders who are playing a Chess game with lives all over the world while we are hypnotized by celebrity and all things trivial.

The fact is America would not elect and does not deserve the ideal president...we have exactly what we deserve and they are leading us to the harvest we have sown.

Hate to say it, but Jimmy Carter was probably the most decent human being to ever take office and he was a terrible President.

-- He was a very good man after he left the White House.
But then he became rabidly anti-Israel, accusing them of ridiculous things while not condemning Hamas and other organizations who launched terrorist attacks against them.

One of the things I remember about Carter - besides the Iranian debacle - is that he was so proactive in trying to reduce the U.S. military that the Soviets were almost actively campaigning for his re-election.

Arnie, I was in Berlin, Germany when Ronald Reagan gave that "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" speech.
After the Wall came down less than a year later, the German Chancellor said that when Reagan had said that, he himself rolled his eyes thinking that what Reagan said would never happen.

Another thing Reagan did that impressed me was when he fired all the Air Traffic Controllers who illegally chose to strike. Even their contract said they were not allowed to strike because of the importance of their job to America, but they did it anyway. They thought he would fold like an accordian but he carried through. That took guts knowing the heat he would take from Democrats and the Unions.
