Jesus did no such thing.
(Luke 12:16-20) “Then he told them a parable: ‘there was once a rich man who, having had a good harvest from his land, thought to himself, “What am I to do? I have not enough room to store my crops.” Then he said,” This is what I will do: I will pull down my barns and build bigger ones, and store all my grain and my goods in them, and I will say to my soul: My soul, you have plenty of good things laid by for many years to come; take things easy, eat, drink, have a good time”. But God said to him, “Fool! This very night the demand will be make for your soul; and this hoard of yours, whose will it be then?”

God called him a fool because his god was himself and his plans . the story has nothing to do with a Christian saving for retirement..

The story has every thing to do with
the first commandment..

Haggai 1:2-8
2Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD's house should be built.
3Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,
4Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?
5Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
6Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
7Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
8Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.

Do you lack?

Are you giving God what God thinks you should?

So how do you approach fiances?
Using the banking methods that we were taught in high school [single, joint checking account], my wife & I lost track of our spending and went bankrupt in 2004.

Afterwards, I opened multiple free checking accounts at our bank at the time, each with its own financial category. I found out later that it was the same rationale as the "Envelope Accounting" cash system. I tweaked the strategy to work within a bank, which allowed access to on-line banking services. (We use slightly different categories than those of Dave Ramsey.)

I also believe in tithing, saving for house/car repairs and finding ways to give when not in debt.

Our income is still low enough to qualify for Medicaid, but I have a credit score of 800+ and our only debt is our house.

Last year, our bank left the area and free checking accounts were no longer available. We moved our accounts to a local credit union which does still allow multiple free checking accounts under a single membership. (And they refinanced our 10.25% mortgage to 4.25%.)

Additionally, there is a way to use PayPal accounts as refillable debit cards when whole accounts are not needed (like a gas allowance, etc.). Conventional debit cards charge a fee to take your money back off of the card. PayPal does not (if connected to a bank account).

I budget. If I don't need something, I don't buy it.

Sometimes I wonder about some people who are on welfare (government assistance). They have fancy hair done at salons, tattoos, pierced ears and lots of earrings, etc.

Seems to me if you claim you need assistance, that you should be more responsible with your finances.

What do you do to keep yourself on a solid financial footing that glorifies God?

Give to the poor.

Avoid credit card debt as this is the bottomless pit.

Instead, When you buy something, pay for it.

As much as possible, only spend on what you need, vs what you want.

Open a saving account, and keep adding.
